Just got back from Omkara,, India's take on Othello, set among the political underworld of Uttar Pradesh and WOW. This has knocked off Fanaa from my favorite movie of the year spot. Actually, it's pretty much in the running for my favorite Bollywood movie ever ( Read more... )

I think Indu is one of those things that will make people say "Omkara > Othello" because Emilia in the original has hardly the sort of role that Indu ends up playing. It actually interests me quite a bit, to be married to someone that evil and not know.. And seeing as how Langda is sort of a vile person even without the manipulation, it's sort of difficult to see what she saw in him. Then again, could've been arranged. (Sorry, that was semi-random.)

See, I was such a conflicted fangirl with this film. Langda is so nasty, not just his voice and his appearance and the way he carries himself, he just feels dirty to the core, it's in his voice and I found myself thinking, "That guy hasn't had a shower in months, gross!". But he's still Saif so there were these tiny occasions when I was like, "Okay, but he's still hot. In a weird sort of way."

And fear not, fic is a-coming.

I just realized, the best performers in Omkara, Saif & Kareena, will be in the director's next (allegedly). And just ..holy fuck. This feels like another Fanaa - so promising I don't think there's any way it could end up being as good as it has the potential to be. But I still hope it's pretty damn sweet.

Oh wow, I didn't realize that Saif and Kareena are doing a movie with the Omkara director. Wow. That's incredibly awesome. Oh my God.
