Just got back from Omkara,, India's take on Othello, set among the political underworld of Uttar Pradesh and WOW. This has knocked off Fanaa from my favorite movie of the year spot. Actually, it's pretty much in the running for my favorite Bollywood movie ever ( Read more... )

It was really really good. And I've always liked Ajay as an actor (Raincoat!!!!) but this is the first movie where I went 'whoa. He is hot" :P

I've also always liked Ajay, but thought he was hot already in Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha which was my first ever Bollywood film. He does the brooding hero type very well.

And then there was Qayamat which was otherwise very forgettable, but those Ajay action scenes...!!!

Thanks to your Omkara comments I rewatched Chori Chori with Ajay and Rani last weekend. It's a light romantic comedy, if you haven't seen it yet (it's a remake of Hollywood film The Housesitter).

And now I think I must go and find a good pic and make an Ajay icon for myself :).

I've seen CC. A bit too fluffy for me, but you are right, Ajay is hot in it.

Sounds good. Othello was always one of my favorite Shakespeare plays anyway. It think it's because everything goes wrong in such a believable manner. It ISN'T one of those "if they'd all just talk to each other everything would be resolved" type misunderstandings. In Othello's mind, if Desdemona is so good at deceiving her own father, then how much more so could she pull the wool over Othello's eyes. Iago finds the chinks in the armor and goes at them in a brilliantly evil manner.

It really is excellent. You get this slow inevitable descent and you see everyone fall like dominoes and you want to stop it but you can't.

Sweet fricking review! I heard this movie was a flop in India, so now I'm utterly puzzled.

I can see why it flopped though. It's quite arthousy. More Raincoat than KKHH.

Ah, that makes sense then. I guess the average Indian is waiting for KANK anyway ;)
