I was not planning to check out Ooku Tanjou, the period jdrama currently airing. The number of jdramas I've watched in the last couple of years could be counted on the fingers of one hand. If that hand has been in an industrial accident. Add in the fact that the premise made me absolutely cringe - it's set in 17th century Japan (so far, so good), ( Read more... )

I've read up to volume 5 of the manga, but then have had to give up. As more of the story arcs progress, the more you have to understand Japanese history, so you can appreciate how they are twisting it. The whole story is fascinating and clever, but ultimately not something I care to revisit in live action form. But I remember having similar feelings as yours when I first read this story arc that they adapting. Everyone else is right. It does get better... only to get screwed up all over again.

Heard about this drama from another blog and thought it sounded interesting, so I started downloading it. Was happily surprised to see a post about it here! But with what everyone is saying about a twisted end, I'm not sure I'm going to follow through with watching it myself. I like my HEA's too much.

No, I don't want him to go back to monkdom. He needs to take over the shogun because our resident shogun, she is c r a z y.

I have the 3 first volumes of the manga and I find it quite interesting how Yoshinaga (the mangaka) has used real historical facts and created this work. She's mostly famous for her shounen-ai mangas ( ... )

Yeah, Sakai Masato is very good and the only reason I stuck as long as I did - I just basically want to go back to Atsuhime instead.

I loathe any sort of harem scenario so I was pretty much not the target audience from the start.
