Now I am feeling so thwarted and depressed

Someone posted on joonni.com the trailer for the 2009 version of Faith, the one with a somewhat different plot that was going to be with Kang Ji Hwan until the fact that was embroiled in a legal dispute with his management scuppered the project.

Oh wow why they couldn't keep the cool and good special effects?

I remember Faith was going to be a 30 billion won project and it was going to be produced in 3D. Looking this teaser I think it would be such epic drama, so sad things didn't work. Faith had so many problems... plus I guess they couldn't find or keep the person to invest much money...

Unfortunately Kang Ji Hwan left faith because of a contract dispute with his last management company....

Can I say the doctor seems hotter in this teaser? LOL :)

This Faith, while I am sure having a decent budget, has a much smaller budget that the 30b won one and hence the special effects. I don't even care about the effects that much (I mean, I enjoyed 90s wuxia cdramas and we all know what kind of effects they had), but the vibe of this is so much grimmer (this Faith never goes as grim as this trailer was) and epic fantasyish and...seriously gnashing teeth here.

I still can't believe Kang Ji Hwan did Lie to Me instead of this (not that he had a choice due to that idiotic dispute. Grrr). He is so good at intense and I love him in period dramas (I became his fan for life due to Capital Scandal/Hong Gil Dong one-two punch) - I really would love for him to make another one but who knows, Damn damn damn!

If by doctor you mean Lee Philip, than yes. But this was 3 years ago and we all change. He was the hottest as Cheoro in Legend. Now THAT look was unreal.

My ovaries would have probably burst with all that Kang Ji Hwan.

I see so much of The Legend set, I wanna go rewatch. Cheoro too!

Oh, wow. That looks amazing. I faintly recall seeing promo pictures for the drama. It makes me wonder just how much was actually filmed before they had to stop. This drama version of the story does look much more grim and fantasy orientated than what we have now. Was the writer/story changed much?

I believe the writer is different (Song Jina only came on board recently) and the story was going to be quite different - as you can tell from the trailer, for example Kim Hee Sun was going to be a 14th century woman with music powers (a la flute guy in this version). The two shots in the trailer for new Faith (Lee Philip healing with needles and KHS playing) are from this old one.

I am seriously, severely upset. I think I might even take a mini break from this version so I won't be comparing them in my mind. Because grim and Kang Ji Hwan? Cannot be beat, sorry.

ah, I see. I think you are right about the story line that could have been. It looks good, and it is such a shame that they couldn't go forward with it. I almost wish someone could make this drama in the future. I'll even take a film version of it!

Kang Ji Hwan looks incredible in this promo. He needs to do another drama soon. (And something like this. Not something that the disaster that was Lie to Me)

What the hell? This is entirely different. ENTIRELY.

I don't understand. Why couldn't they keep the same premise? It seems like such an unnecessary change to me when they originally had a vibe that I think many people expected when Faith started to air.

Different writer and everything else? Also, I love Lee Min Ho, but there is no way he could play the same character Kang Ji Hwan would - the latter's got at least a decade on him, and so by definition the KJH character had to be different (and was - you can tell).

I expected from Faith what I got from it (but then I love it much more than you do) - I think anyone who watched the teasers etc knew what to expect. BUT. This is a whole other thing entirely and so much more my speed and so epic. (I find Faith less epic than Legend but this looks every bit as epic as Legend and then some).

Although I see where you're coming from, even the teasers were a bit of a mixed bag for Faith, IMO.

I'm not sure what kind of gap there was between writers but I wish there hadn't been such a massive script overhaul. I think it would have served the drama better. I say that as someone who actually enjoys Faith so this isn't me being down on it.

And while I agree that there is a gap between LMH and KJH, as he is now, CY is supposed to be a sort of grim, cold warrior type - perhaps not as hardened as KJH's character would have been - so I'm not sure how much of a stretch it would have really been but YMMV.

I've actually got exactly what the drama will be from pretty much every kdrama teaser except Tamra. In fact, I know that if I hate the teaser, I'll hate the drama - if I go against my instincts and check out the drama, I end up hating it :)

And here you have the reason why people are so hard on Faith. Many were expecting the epicness promised by that first early trailer and were extremely disappointed.

I had heard nothing of this drama until this year and seeing that trailer makes me reallize that they must have filmed quite a bit of the drama before stopping all production. It's the first time I see anything like this. There are a lot of special effects in that trailer. They must have spent lots of money on it.

i never knew any trailer of faith beside beside with LMH as CY, therefore what i get is the production team promise epic and this is what we get (the one that airing) with none near epic, so peoples are so hard. I always think they are too hard actually, then i saw this trailer... then they not hard enough.

you right, the reason is now found....

A LOT.... for a drama that promise 3D and epic, money is like waterfall.
also like the wardrobe of CY ans Eun Soo...
Such a waste

I don't think many people saw this early trailer until now.

This said, this would have been so amazing. Argh, why!!!

I don't know how many saw it exactly but I remember reading many comments about the use of already shot material in the 2012 trailer.

Now I really want to see and epic fantasy saga about the Goryeo period (or any historical period, really). But I don't know if we'll ever get one. These grand scale dramas seem to originate mainly from China and I'm not fond of those. I've tried so many times to get into them but I just can't.

I want my Korean Lord of The Rings.

Maybe one day? Moon/Sun had fantasy elements and did great rating-wise. And now Arang is still holding strong with its special universe. Maybe that'll give writers and producers a push in the right direction?
