I am confused. Is Tae Hee (Joo Won's character) adopted? Something the obnoxious youngest brother said in ep 11 about how mother always treated him better than her own sons and him being the neighbor's kid, made me think about what is going on ( Read more... )

Oh yes, he is adopted. JUST WAIT FOR THE ANGST!! He is the son of the "Dad"'s brother, so he is a cousin to everyone!

- this is how you do a plucky, chirpy character, dramas

EXACTLY. This is usually my most hated Kdrama stereotype - plucky and chirpy, because usually these herouines are shown as brainless and/or quite "bitchy", but Uee's character - I adore that girl.

So he's Dad's nephew? Well, then the youngest brother pisses me off even more because the way he was talking, you'd think the family picked Joo Won out of the gutter without any relationship at all.

Angst? This has angst? Mmmmmm/

Yes, I love that she's plucky and chirpy but also smart and upbeat in a sane fashion.

The mother is SUCH a monster. It takes quite a talent to know you stole but treat the person you stole from as the one who wronged you.

I want to stab the mother with a rusty fork, and the father too - he is SO SPINELESS. To their small defence it will become obvious later that the farm was a wilderness (no house even) until they came and built everything. But still - I HATE THEM!!

Oh yes, Angst! As you imagine, the thing with the contract will get discovered at some point and after that tere is the angsty part (my favourite BTW)

I think the youngest was always jealous of TH because TH is the favourite of the granny (and the granny is the boss in that household) as the only son of her youngest (TH's dad died in an accident BTW).

The father is useless.

But the thing is, I am a lawyer in rl, and unless Korean laws are vastly different from usual property laws, it doesn't matter that they made all these improvements. I guess they could litigate getting some money back due to value of improvements - I don't know how Korean law works or what the lease agreement said - but the ultimate point of it belonging to JE and the family only having a 10 yr lease remains. They have no legal claim to the land.

If I were JE, once I discovered all these, I'd take the farm and never see the rest of them again. She's way more forgiving than I am.

The family irritates me so much as well! And now that I think about it when JE/TH end up together the family is going to get the farm anyway. They need to pay for what they did to JE. Feeling sorry doesn't change anything. I don't understand how they could treat her that way.

What is most upsetting about the situation is that the family will probably never have to pay for what they did. And in the end they will still get the farm.

I know! I don't even care about them getting the farm but JE is going to have to live with them for the rest of her life? Ugh.

The family wins either way and it just kills me!

I have to say I'm sort of weirdly amused at everyone ranting about the parents and granny. That part of the drama is just so very Korean and we will aways have a hard time accepting why they are presented that way. I can't say I approve on condone it either but I think I do understand. Which is why I can't get all that ranty about them. There are overall several specifically Korean 'features' in dramas that I always find quite mindboggling as I'm used to a different sort of value system. I just take them as part of the packge and try not to get too annoyed when they clash with what I think is right/wrong.

The thing is, I understand the sons respecting their parents despite me thinking they shouldn't or husband respecting wife's psycho choice - Confusian society and all that. But I cannot see any society thinking it's OK to steal stuff and treat the victim of theft badly.

Nah, that's just a stupid plot point like every other criminal act in almost any k-drama ever. Lazy writing to build up tension... one of my pet peeves though it seems to annoy me far less than some of my peeves with historicals.

You'd be surprised what kind of stupid criminal acts people commit in RL. I interned at Public Defender's for a year, and the stories I could tell you :)

First time posting but have been an avid follower of your blog. I've seen all episodes, subbed and unsubbed (that's how obsessed with this drama I have been). What I love about this drama is that all major characters have their worst moments where they lash out or act selfishly, and they realize the consequences of their actions not necessarily because they get negative consequences but because they are confronted with the fact that they have deeply hurt someone else and that person means more to them than they have allowed themselves to acknowledge. No one changes overnight but they all stumble and struggle through making the right choices. I think the writer(s) have done an amazing job making each characters' actions consistent to their personalities and situation (good, bad, hormones, temporary insanity, alcohol). I may not love every character like I do the OTP, find some more annoying, or even frustrating because I expect more out of them (TB & SY) but not one has failed to impress me in the way they have stepped up at some ( ... )

Thank you! :)

I read subs as I ff so not all is lost. I ff less and less as the eps go on, but the thought of spending 58+ hours on a drama - I can't. I ff for self-preservation.
