I am confused. Is Tae Hee (Joo Won's character) adopted? Something the obnoxious youngest brother said in ep 11 about how mother always treated him better than her own sons and him being the neighbor's kid, made me think about what is going on ( Read more... )

Oh yes, he is adopted. JUST WAIT FOR THE ANGST!! He is the son of the "Dad"'s brother, so he is a cousin to everyone!

- this is how you do a plucky, chirpy character, dramas

EXACTLY. This is usually my most hated Kdrama stereotype - plucky and chirpy, because usually these herouines are shown as brainless and/or quite "bitchy", but Uee's character - I adore that girl.

So he's Dad's nephew? Well, then the youngest brother pisses me off even more because the way he was talking, you'd think the family picked Joo Won out of the gutter without any relationship at all.

Angst? This has angst? Mmmmmm/

Yes, I love that she's plucky and chirpy but also smart and upbeat in a sane fashion.

The mother is SUCH a monster. It takes quite a talent to know you stole but treat the person you stole from as the one who wronged you.

I want to stab the mother with a rusty fork, and the father too - he is SO SPINELESS. To their small defence it will become obvious later that the farm was a wilderness (no house even) until they came and built everything. But still - I HATE THEM!!

Oh yes, Angst! As you imagine, the thing with the contract will get discovered at some point and after that tere is the angsty part (my favourite BTW)

I think the youngest was always jealous of TH because TH is the favourite of the granny (and the granny is the boss in that household) as the only son of her youngest (TH's dad died in an accident BTW).

The father is useless.

But the thing is, I am a lawyer in rl, and unless Korean laws are vastly different from usual property laws, it doesn't matter that they made all these improvements. I guess they could litigate getting some money back due to value of improvements - I don't know how Korean law works or what the lease agreement said - but the ultimate point of it belonging to JE and the family only having a 10 yr lease remains. They have no legal claim to the land.

If I were JE, once I discovered all these, I'd take the farm and never see the rest of them again. She's way more forgiving than I am.

Oh yes, sure thing! I hate their guts and they have no rights at all.

This is why I love her too.

The thing that boggles me is that the drama clearly intends up to like them.

Btw, you were looking for anime recs. Have you checked out RahXephon? It's smart and surreal and amazing.

Yes, I noticed that too. It is not as if it bothered me too much because I ff-ed the parents, but yes.. I think it is a Korean thing, they tend to over-do it on "respect for the elders" all the time (even when dome of parents are clearly horrific)

THANK YOU! No, I haven't heard of it yet, I am going to check it.

Have you seen Rurouni Kenshin? Or Peacemaker (sometimes referred to as Peacemaker Kurogane). I (and Mr. Mousie) love them both.
