LOLOL at comment about Thirteen. He is a pretty irritating bastard, isn't he? That's why when he was injured in one of the later eps and QC actually goes and makes him medicine, I commented that I'd personally have given him poison. I'm afraid I don't have any good news for you regarding his character, either; your annoyance at him will only increase exponentially as you reach the episode 30s. :P Prepare for high-blood pressure!
I really wonder what Ning Xiang ever saw in him. Going from Eight to Thirteen is just incomprehensible. My shallow side quite fond of Thirteen, though. :D

Her comment about him acting out to get attention as a kid really got to me because my 2-yr-old does exactly the same thing (since I am not a royal concubine too busy with stuff, she usually gets the attention asap and probably some hugs :P) But yes, once again, difference in their personality. If Eight was like Four, even when found Bing Yue, he'd still fixate on the fact that his mother didn't love him. It may be that Eight is a bigger optimist or just has a much bigger capacity for love (the latter is definitely true - if QC wanted to be with Four, he'd be heartbroken but he'd respect her choice. I can't see any scenario in which he'd be bartering with her for Four's life in exchange for sex).
