Young Warriors of the Yang Clan v. Warriors of the Yang Clan - battle royale

Mar 15, 2011 14:59

Because I am an obsessive individual (this livejournal is a years-long testament to that fact), the very fact that I am in the middle of and loving Young Warriors of the Yang Clan ensured I'll check out Warriors of the Yang Clan, the other drama take on Yang story that is available with subs and which stars Alec Su and Chae Rim. I have just ( Read more... )

Hey, you are never allowed to call yourself the anti-me! *sniffles*

On the otherhand, have some Alec with a spear, oh yes, be my guest. I never found him attractive (other than a cute BnextD way) until Warriors either.

So we're on the same wavelength here. Tho I still find Peter Ho fugly but a super duper 100% great guy in RL. Wish I can ship RL Peter Ho instead off onscreen Peter Ho.

LOL. I am only anti-you in respect to Peter Ho, I promise. :)

It's funny, I saw clips of Alec Su in other period dramas (something set in the Qing) and it confirmed my "not my thing" feeling but here - rawr.

Speaking of actors we both dislike, did you see Jang Nara is doing a kdrama comeback? *shudder* She's one of only three drama actors where I automatically won't watch because she's in it no matter costars, topic, director etc. I hope they don't cast anyone I actually like opposite her.

Out of curiosity, who are the other unfortunate two? And how come you dislike Jang Nara?

I've never seen her in anything, so I was actually looking at that upcoming kdrama of hers with some interest - sounded like something different from all the "Ultra Dramatic Chaebol Drama!" we've been given lately. As for her opposite number, it's supposedly Choi Daniel, so I hope you're not overly fond of him :P - it hasn't been 100% confirmed yet, but looks like it might head that way.

Hooray! I am indifferent to Choi Daniel ( ... )

Hm... Don't know why, but from the first 2 caps, I thought this to be a jdrama. X3

I'd love to watch a period jdrama but they are hard to find

Actually I have two in mind that I really want to watch right away. X3
One is Shinsengumi with Katori Shingo, and the other is Tenchijin with Tsumabuki Satoshi and Abe Hiroshi.

are you going to put me out of my misery and cap their first meeting? i cant remember too much other than the ending! which probably means that i need to do a re-watch. lol i havent got the time!

Re : give a man a Song dynasty hairdo and a spear - hehehe, kinda of like me with Wallace Huo and to a lesser, but ever-increasing degree, Hu Ge! although, strangely, although Alec Su was in the same boy-band as Nicky Wu, i dont get visions of their music videos in my head when i look at him!

My vids aren't a great quality for capping though they are OK to watch. But she basically bursts into Yang training compound in pursuit of a thief, insists thief is one of them, Four gets offended, fight blah blah, thief is caught (he's not a Yang soldier but pretending to be one), they part amicably.

I've never seen Hu Ge outside a period drama :P I have seen pics of him and Wallace in modern clothes/presscons/etc and while I prefer the period getup, I think they are generally attractive men. But with Alec Su, I didn't even find him attractive at all before Warriors so that's bizarre.

Since you are on such a wuxia kicker lately, another gift for you.

Someone make an MV of the 3 classic LoCH adaptations (not including LoCH 2008 which you watched - since LoCH 2008 is pretty revisionist).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fU0XDG2YR80

The first couple (shoulder length hair GJ) is Felix and Barbara Yung from LoCH 1982.

Second couple (long hair GJ) is Chilam and Athena Chu from LoCH 1994

Third couple (hair in a bun GJ) is Li Ya Peng and Zhou Xun from LoCH 2002 (this is the version from China directed by Zhang Zi Zhong - who also did the RoCH you love, and Ady An's Dragon Sabre)

It's pretty neat to see the different interpretations of the same OTP.

Wow, thanks for this! Barbara Yung will always be my favorite Huang Rong.

Ooooh, thank you! Also, I think 2002 version may be on netflix with subs in which case, here goes...

Also, this is oddly timely because I am currently on a rewatch of sorts of LOCH2008. I realized I sort of inhaled the last 10+ eps so quickly I didn't comment on them much or process them so I am going back starting with ep 39 and watching it more leisurely.

You guys are welcome! Of all the adaptations, LoCH2002 is the only one I haven't watched (other than snippets), but watching the MV makes me actually want to check it out now.

I have a soft spot for Chilam-Athena even though acting wise they were the weakest, because they are so damn pretty together.

Here's a similar comparison MV someone did for RoCH

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxePey9j6xo&feature=related

The first grainy pics from from RoCH1976 and no one I know has ever seen it.

The first OTP is Andy Lau and Idy Chan from RoCH1983

The comes Louis Koo and Carmen Lee in RoCH1995

Finally its Huang Xiao-min and Crystal Liu in RoCH2006.

The theme song which plays is one of fave OST songs ever, its the theme song from RoCH1983, and the second version which plays in the second half of the MV is the same song but this time sung by Andy Lau himself.

I agree with you about YWotYC, I love certain couples, but what makes it such a great drama is the family bond.
If you want to try yet another drama about the Yangs, then you could try The Yang's Saga, it just got added to jdramas recently.

I am always up for more Yangs. Thanks!

My favorite relationships in Young Warriors were the sibling and parental bonds - it's wonderful to see a family that is so functional yet is real in having differences etc, but love each other above all.
