China goes twofer for kdrama remakes

Two big kdrama hits are getting Chinese remakes and my main reaction is - whyyyyy?

Remake n1 is cdrama version of that (in)famous weepie Autumn in My Heart, otherwise known as the drama where kids who were brought up as siblings meet as adults and fall for each other. It's OK as it turns out they are not related. Ooops, she gets cancer and dies, ( Read more... )

remakes, my girl, autumn tale, doramas3

I think Dennis Oh actually has anti-talent and anti-charisma, as opposed to DH who just doesn't have any.

oh gawd, this just reminds me why i refuse to watch most dramas that come out of mainland china. they are just utter *dirge*!!! argh!!! crap plots, crap acting, and you haven't even got any eye-candy! then, they go and produce some gorgeous adaptation of a martial arts novel and i forgive all their past transgressions. HMPH.

Mmmm, I loved every period epic I've seen from the Mainland but all the contemporaries sound awful.

I say, stick to the historicals and wuxia, China. Or at least, hire some decent contemp drama writers, because the ones you have now, they suck (so much so that I had to censor myself there).

Jimmy Lin is hitting 40, isn't he? There must be a portrait somewhere in an attic... ;P

In other news, MatsuJun made out with his sister? I didn't even know he had a sister. Ahh, the things we do for movies. (I'm still holding out for the Maggie/Jake Gyllenhaal fiasco of Batman.)

Frankly I agree with you. They better stick with wuxia drama. About eye candy the worst is HK drama. I don't know, except maybe Bosco Wong and Ron Ng, everyone else look so...hum..."oily" ?

Not his real sister, his on-screen twin sister in "I'm in love with my little sister" movie.

Remake n2 is of the big romcom hit My Girl with Jimmy Lin in the lead role.

...WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?

I want him to do something else that I'd actually be interested in watching, damnit. My Lucky Star has been the only drama of his so far that I've managed to watch in its entirety, I think. And considering I couldn't finish the Korean My Girl, I'm not sure I'd have much luck with the Chinese one...

Any news on who the female lead is?

*googles* Cherrie Ying, apparently. I don't have the faintest clue who she is, either.

I just looked up the director, Lin He Long, and he's done a pretty varied list of dramas - Devil Beside You, My Lucky Star, Why Why Love, Romantic Princess, Love or Bread... I wonder who the writer will be.

I lol. Mostly because My Girl even had a Filipino remake and it was a huge terrific hit back home. Filipino dramas are more given to melodrama than Korean, I will tell you, so I was really cringing at the thought but it was pretty decent. But then again, I'm used to how our dramas drag on for MONTHS and kind of find excuses to just be on air lol xD
