I actually like Wes better when was a "geeky inffectual adorable dork" and when he gains fighting skills and effectiveness, but is still a major dork. The Sooper Dooper Dark and Angsty Wes I still like, but not as much.
I admit, though, that I could never get into Fred/Gunn or Fred/Wes. Normally I could (and would) cheerfully get into either or both, but the way they handled it (hooking up Fred and Gunn out of the blue after deliberately building up Fred/Wes and then my distaste for how they ended Fred/Gunn-though I could understand where both characters were coming from, I dislike the messages involved) kept me from ever caring about the triangle.
I suspect, though, that you'll like both Fred and Illyria.
And yup, Wes gets his throat slit. And then Angel tries to choke (or was it smoother?) him in the hospital. (I give them a lot of credit for being able to write that part without really saying either of them was wrong.)
I am usually a lot more easygoing about liking ships than you are (in fact, some people might say I have no standards :P), so unless they kill babies, I am going to be fine with whatever goes down :)
My biggest hurdle for AtS is the irrational shipper one: I don't want to see Angel with anyone but Buffy. I can't help it, I get all irrationally 'eeeek'.
My Buffyverse intro was late s2/early s3 AtS, when it was kinda "Angel and Cordy would totally be sleeping with each other but he's still hung up on someone else and she doesn't want to have to try to kill him after if the sex is actually any good." It wasn't until they actually went "hey, let's say they're in love!" that it got annoying, which it is even without the Buffy s1-3 background.
haha I don't hate Connor either, though I admit I hated how he was manipulated by evil!Cordy.. that was ugly. But I could never hate on any of them characters for real. I even liked Riley.
That whole plot line was weird and maybe time has made things look brighter but I remember I was rather disappointed. :/ Right now I just think it was part of the whole thing, so after all, it was fine.
ahaha I've always been a Buffy/Spike fangirl [except for the first few seasons of Buffy, cause then I kinda liked the idea of B/A... and always thought I will remember You was heartbreaking and evil. :(] Angel/Cordy seemed more appropriate at the end.. I think they built up that pairing quite wisely, it's another question that they fucked it up lmao.
I absolutely loved the direction Wesley's character took in Angel. There's nothing sexier than angst and depression. I especially loved the whole angst about Wes/someone (don't want to spoil you even more, though I guess you're already are). Wes/Fred was not that interesting until suddenly it became angsty and then there was Illyria. Those scenes were awesome. ahh, I miss both Buffy/Angel-verses.
It does seem (at least from the spoilers I read) that the Wes storylines, Lilah and parent issues and all, might actually appeal to me the most. Will see.
