Smacked

The Seattle area got SMACKED by the weather. Arctic Blast + precipitation = ice, snow, and more ICE.

My local bus (the one I can walk to if I want) is usually canceled when the weather gets bad, so I drove to the Park and Ride, about 7 miles away. I left work in Seattle at 4:00 and got home at 6:30 -- two and a half hours, and I was one of the ( Read more... )

I never cease to be amazed at how many idiots work on the principle that if they drive faster through snow-covered streets, they'll get home quicker. Or not at all.

I'm not looking forward to our first snow and ice this year, since I now live on top of a particularly steep hill. I'm only walking, at least, but I think I might as well dress in fifteen layers of bubble wrap and roll down.

Of course, being the UK, it doesn't freeze quite as much, so you get idiocy like this when it does:

Still my favourite 'idiots-on-ice' moment of the past decade :D

Brrrrrrr, it looks so cold and miserable, those poor people! The bus looked like it did everything right to me, too, he couldn't have gone slower, that's for sure.

I live in northern Michigan, and this will be my first winter working, so I'm not looking forward to this at all. Not the hill so much, but there are two bridges I have to cross. I only work part-time, though, so that's not as bad.

I'm so glad you made it home all right, wow, what a thing.

See... this is why I live in sunny CA. Of course it does snow in the mountains, which are only about 30 minutes away, but I don't go there, oh no, not in winter. BRRRRR.... I was amazed at all the pedestrians on the sidewalk -- they didn't even look frozen and no one slipped. Looks like the guy making the video had a fun evening, just sitting there watching all the mess. Yikes. Glad you made it home, wow, 45 min to go a mile? I'd be stuck on the side of the road. I have *NO* idea how to drive in snow, let alone ice. It snowed here about 20 years ago, about 2-3 inches and stayed on the ground ALL DAY!@@@! And I didn't leave the house. No sir. And they cancelled school. LOL. Most people would laugh like hell at us.
