This is seriously better than the prompt which spawned it. I loved Spock and his obvious competence in the last career anyone would have picked for him. I loved Pike's insight and his kindness. I even liked the rather tenative way that Jim is dealing with Spock.
I love the way that Jim is opening up a future in Science not diplomacy for Spock.
There are some fanfiction stories that took a year or more before finally updating. I hope that you find some inspiration to add to this story next year. It is really really good and I would like to see how the characters and story develop.

I have to say, I am absolutely crushed that this will never get finished. By far one of the most amazing Star Trek stories I have read. The characterization is perfect, the plot entirely believable and the pacing very well managed. This work has an addictive quality to it, and I could not stop reading. Not to mention what the sexual tension between the main characters did to me :) Although it's marked as unfinished I sincerely hope you will pick it up again.
