"You should be more like Orochimaru," Sarutobi's advice before they left on their mission, his words cutting deeper than knives. Jiraiya was sick of the same old litany. Why would he want to be anything like that creep?
The fire went out at their campsite. All they had left was the full moon, as pale as Orochimaru's sick-looking skin. They were tired and cold and had nothing to eat. The first disdainful remark from Orochimaru's mouth tipped the scale of Jiraiya's weakening self-control, his rage exploding like fireworks.
"You aren't all that great." Jiraiya's fists pounded on Orochimaru until his knuckles were swollen and bruised.
"That's what you say," Orochimaru purred, throwing a few defensive kicks in return. "But your heart betrays you."
"You don't know what you're talking about." Jiraiya kissed him then, sharp teeth sinking on thin lips, to hurt him, to wipe the superior smirk off his face. He was glad that Tsunade wasn't here to pull them apart.
Jiraiya cursed himself for enjoying this. He cursed Orochimaru next, for being so damn perfect, for the way his lips tasted like blood and peppermint.
