Tonight was cool. Early in the evening, I headed to NYC to go see In Flames with infinity10003 and clarkus at Webster Hall.
I stopped on St. Mark's place and got a new studded belt, because the crappy pressed leather one I had had died recently. After that, I asked for falafel, and infinity10003 took me to a place that was much better than the one on St. Mark's that I normally go ( Read more... )

shows, music, nyc, going out to eat (not diners), rampant consumerism

I really like dvldvr, a lot better than Coal Chamber(the singer's old band) Zao I never really cared about, and Trivium are ok... I guess, I have their cd on my computer, but I haven't really listened to it that much
In Flames I like though...
umm... the next concert I'm planning on going to is in May... Morbid Angel and a few other bands that probably aren't your flavor of metal

oh, and knife fights in a pit are a bit much I think, I'm all for being hardcore and whatever but, to quote Tom Araya "if you see someone go down, help him out alright? that's what you're here to do, help eachother out"

I actually tend to agree.

I've personally never seen a knife fight happen where both parties didn't get kicked out. It was more of an anecdote to describe just how fucking crazy NJ metalheads apparently are compared to the rest of the country.

I have personally been told by more than a couple people who'd know that NJ pits are fucking hardcore compared to the rest of the country.

I've seen crazy shit in pits. Like the guy who broke his leg in Fear Factory at Ozzfest 2000(?) who crowd-surfed out to the side, and then wouldn't go to the hospital until after the set ended. His bone was poking through, and his leg was bent at a positively unnatural angle. But, I also used to know a guy who lost a sneaker in a Pantera pit once, and suddenly found a circle of hands around him, one of which was holding his show out to him, until he got it back on and was up safely. It goes both ways, I think.

hmm, the craziest thing I've personally seen was an opening band (that was hardly advertized) telling the crowd to kick someone's ass and throw him out... and they did
he was apperently talking shit to the bassist or something

I haven't had falafel in a long ass time. I'm going to the City this weekend and now I want some. Where did he take you?

Cafe Rakka, on St. Mark's place and 1st ave (NW corner) Next to Stromboli, the best pizza place in the area.

Philly pits can get pretty crazy big, but now that you mention it, I've never seen a heavier one than at The Birch Hill.

I got kicked in the face once at the Electric Factory.

I try to stay in front of the pit, which usually gets me squashed between the sweaty pit spillover and the rail. If I get to a show too late, I hang on the balcony or the sides with all of the other old farts.

If I'm late, I push through brats and hang where I like.

Stand on the corner, say on 13th street. See which one is 14th street, and then you're facing north.

Good seeing you!

Ha, that only works if I can see to the corner. Otherwise, I have to *gasp* walk to it, for I am blind.

Totally was. If not Saturday, you have to come to Mike's party!

Yeah. You have to walk a block if you can't see. Still, it's only one block, and probably only half of one if you aren't totally blind.

LOL, I always feel dumb when I walk the block or half-block and realize I have to head in the other direction.

Without question, the best pits in existence are in Staten Island. I saw Life of Agony a long time ago at some place up near the SI Ferry, I'm thinking the place was The Wave but I could be wrong. The place was about the size of the Birch Hill, but not broken up by bars. The entire place was one huge pit.

I also saw 54 Vision at some little bar in SI, roughly across the Arthur Kill from Sewaren. Little tiny place, powerful pit.
