Tonight was cool. Early in the evening, I headed to NYC to go see In Flames with infinity10003 and clarkus at Webster Hall.
I stopped on St. Mark's place and got a new studded belt, because the crappy pressed leather one I had had died recently. After that, I asked for falafel, and infinity10003 took me to a place that was much better than the one on St. Mark's that I normally go ( Read more... )

shows, music, nyc, going out to eat (not diners), rampant consumerism

I really like dvldvr, a lot better than Coal Chamber(the singer's old band) Zao I never really cared about, and Trivium are ok... I guess, I have their cd on my computer, but I haven't really listened to it that much
In Flames I like though...
umm... the next concert I'm planning on going to is in May... Morbid Angel and a few other bands that probably aren't your flavor of metal

oh, and knife fights in a pit are a bit much I think, I'm all for being hardcore and whatever but, to quote Tom Araya "if you see someone go down, help him out alright? that's what you're here to do, help eachother out"

I actually tend to agree.

I've personally never seen a knife fight happen where both parties didn't get kicked out. It was more of an anecdote to describe just how fucking crazy NJ metalheads apparently are compared to the rest of the country.

I have personally been told by more than a couple people who'd know that NJ pits are fucking hardcore compared to the rest of the country.

I've seen crazy shit in pits. Like the guy who broke his leg in Fear Factory at Ozzfest 2000(?) who crowd-surfed out to the side, and then wouldn't go to the hospital until after the set ended. His bone was poking through, and his leg was bent at a positively unnatural angle. But, I also used to know a guy who lost a sneaker in a Pantera pit once, and suddenly found a circle of hands around him, one of which was holding his show out to him, until he got it back on and was up safely. It goes both ways, I think.

hmm, the craziest thing I've personally seen was an opening band (that was hardly advertized) telling the crowd to kick someone's ass and throw him out... and they did
he was apperently talking shit to the bassist or something

LOL, awesome. I've seen bands (at that Birch Hill place) encourage people to gang up on and beat the fuck out of anyone they saw giving shit to someone who couldn't take it.

LOL, I used to like Morbid Angel because I thought I had to.

Really? I liked Coal Chamber better. I am so out of the loop, they broke up?

thought you had to?... they're practically from my hometown actually, them, Obituary, Deicide, and Death (and a bunch of others)... and yes, I like bragging about that =P

yeah, a couple times I believe... I think they may have had some contractual obligations to a certian number of albums or something, cause I know it got out that they all pretty much hated eachother and they had like 2 more albums after that...

oh, and the last concert I went to didn't have a coat check and were giving out free bottles of water... sounds like NYC sucks all around to me, atleast as far a concerts go

I'd rather have a coat check than not... it's not-quite neccesary but extremely convenient in NYC in winter. I'm just used to it costing $1 instead of $3.

I've really genuinely liked both Obituary and Death. Own an album apiece from them, actually. Deicide, not so much. There was one song I remember liking quite a bit when I was 14, but mostly I described them as an example of what I was NOT into when people were scared of me for being a Metalhead.

LOL @ Coal Chamber.

Glen Benton(from Deicide) is my friend's favorite vocalist, as far as deathmetal is concerned
and uh... we personally know Terry Butler, who used to play bass in Death, and now plays in Six Feet Under, which now I that I think about it, is an interesting band, an ex-Death bassist and they used to have an ex-Obituary guitarist, untill he went back to Obituary... and an ex-Cannibal Corpse vocalist(who is probably the weakest link in the band)

and umm... I'm rambling because I should be sleeping

Terry's wife is supposed to be our band manager... if we ever get anything going...

And water at shows is usually free in summer... if you don't mind it being thrown at you and having to fight for it.

I think that and the coat checks are legitimate regional differences, though. I mean, you live where its hot all year, so of course you'd think coat checks to be absurd. And not many people will choose water over beer this time of year in this area.
