2260Lea tugged at the collar of her dress uniform. She was being forced to wear it in order to meet with the Ossarian delegation, and as much as she would have preferred to have been left out of this, Jim had thought it would be a damn good idea to have her there. Never mind that she had patients in Sickbay that needed her far more

He would have to break Warehouse protocol and not put the vase in the purple goo. If Artie had a problem with it, he would have to deal or allow the vase to fall into the wrong hands.
With the vase in one hand, Pete started through the abandoned warehouse he'd found it in and walked toward the door. As he did, he started to rub his thumb over the vase, stopping when it started to warm. And being the curious person he was, Pete continued to rub until they were a flash of light in front of him.
"What the fuck?" he said.

And as she heard Scotty starting the transporter sequence, she suddenly felt a strange pulling feeling. It didn't feel like a transporter beam, but still, she found herself worried that something was going wrong. "What the hell. Scotty--."
The next thing she knew, there was a bright flash, and she was standing somewhere that was definitely not the Enterprise. She was still holding the vase in her hands, and when she saw the man standing there, she raised it up - which was damn stupid. How was a vase going to protect her?
"What the hell just happened?" she demanded. "Who the hell are you?"

"I don't know! I was rubbing the vase and you popped up," he said as he looked her over. "If I'd known the vase produced hot women, I would have rubbed it sooner."

What the damn hell?
"Wait a minute? You're sayin' that you rubbed that vase and I appeared like some goddamn genie?" she asked in disbelief. "I swear, Jim, if I have to grant three wishes..."
She took a look around where they were, furrowing her brow.
"Where are we?"

He motioned for her to follow him out the door. Pete then took her over to the car and opened the trunk in order to get two bags for the vases. "Put these on," he said as he tossed her a pair of goggles.
Once she had them on, he put the vases in the silver bags and a flash came out. When it died down, he took off his goggles and put the bag in the trunk. He then looked over at the woman.
"This is a car. Don't be scared, okay?"

Once they were in the car, he started the car and pulled away from the building. When she asked her question, he shrugged. "It's a special bag that we use to transport artifacts. It keeps them under control," he said.
As they started toward the Canada-US border, he glanced over at her. "Do you have a name or do they only give you numbers in the future," he said.

When Pete then answered her question about the bags, she frowned. "Control artifacts? You mean, you're used to them doin' weird ass things like bringin' people into the past?"
She shook her head. Yeah, this definitely wasn't the day she had thought she'd be having.
At Pete's question, she found herself laughing despite of herself. "Ya know, sometimes I wonder. They do give us serial numbers in Starfleet. But no, we've got names. Leandra McCoy. Doctor Leandra McCoy, actually. Ya got a last name, Pete?"

"They recently dealt with someone who could time travel but it's not an everyday occurrence with them," he said as he rang the doorbell and a moment later the door opened. "Hey, Will."
"Hey. Come in," he said as he ushered them inside. "What's going on?"
After introducing them, Pete told Will about what had happened. Luckily, the other man believed the story and took them downstairs to medical.
"Magnus should be back in a bit and I'm sure James will come down soon," Will said as he gave Lea a warm smile. "I'm sure all of this looks primitive to you but would it be okay for me to do scan? The last time someone tome traveled, they got sick with radation poisoning and I want to make sure you're okay."

Instead, she stood behind Pete as he rang the doorbell, and when the man answered the door, she looked down at herself, hoping that he believed what had happened to her even though they had dealt with someone who was had time traveled before. And when Will did, she found herself letting out a soft sigh.
She wasn't sure that she ever would've.
Sitting down in their medical lab, she looked around when Will mentioned it being primitive. "Actually, it's more advanced than I would've thought," she told him before nodding at his question. "Yeah, go ahead. Last thing I want is to die 'cause of somethin' like that."
Just then, a man with dark hair and a Van Dyke beard come in. "I hear we have a visitor?"

Pete looked over and smiled when James walked in. "Hey, James," he said before he introduced him to Lea and explained what happened before he handed the bags over, figuring James would want to look the artifacts over. "If you need more goo, I have it in the car."
Once the scan was finished, Will told Lea she could sit up before he pulled the scan results up on his tablet. "At first look, I see nothing physically wrong with you but I'm going to send the results up to Doctor Magnus and have her look them over," he said.

"And you, Doctor McCoy. We'll certainly see what we can do to help you," he told her, taking the vases over to one of the counters and setting the down. He carefully opened one of the bags to examine it, his brow furrowing.
Lea, meanwhile, sat up once Will was done, nodding when he gave her his results. "Well, at least there's that. Do ya know what those damn things are?"
"At first glance? The Sands of Time," he said. "Notice the hourglass shape? These vases were made to hold the Sands in Ancient Egypt."
"I thought the sands of time were actual hourglasses," Lea said.
"Once they came into use during the medieval period, but this..." James rubbed his beard. "The vases were always meant to be together. There's a story that if they got separated, they would find a way to come together again, no matter what it took."

As Lea went to change, Pete made arrangements with the Big Guy to get her some more clothes and told him both of them would be staying the night. He then sent Artie a message, telling him he had yet to find the artifact. Pete decided to leave out he was at the Sanctuary. And once the message was sent, he turned off his Farnsworth.
"You did good," he said before looking over at James and Nikola. "I'm going to take her up to her room. Call us when you figure something out."
Pete then motioned for Lea to follow him.

Once she was changed, she was glad to hear that she had put the dress on right. In her time, the straps of material across her back would have been worn to the front on many worlds, but she had felt uncomfortable with that and was glad that she had chosen the other direction.
After thanking James and Nikola for their help, Lea followed Pete upstairs, looking around as she did. She saw a few almost alien-looking creatures, which caused her to stop for a moment.
"You did say this is 2011, right? Are those aliens?" she said. Because if they were, they weren't any of the Federation races she knew, and 2011 was years before the Vulcans had made first contact with earth.

He started walking again, leading Lea to the elevator. "There's a mermaid here named Sally. And one of Doctor Magnus' assistant is a Bigfoot named Biggie," he explained as they rode the elevator to the third floor. "Nikola is a vampire and James is the basis for Sherlock Holmes."
Pete decided to stop there, knowing he probably shouldn't tell her everything since that was a lot to take in. Instead, he led her to her room and opened the door. "I think Biggie's going to bring you up some more clothes. Do you want me to come in and wait with you?" he asked.
