Yesterday I packed up my things real quick and headed over here to my new digs, Michael Moore's place.  This Michael Moore, as we remember from a few posts back, is not the American filmmaker, but a jazz musician living in Amsterdam.  He and his wife are away and their 18 year old son is still here, but leaving for Greece today.  I get to hang out ( Read more... )

Mary Halvorson trio at the Bimhuis tonight.  Pretty fantastic.  The drummer, Ches Smith, is OMG amazing and I want to have all his drummer babies.  Well, not really, but he was something.  Mary H has no speaking charisma at all, I've never seen anyone who played with so much fire sound so bored and stiff when talking between tunes, but who cares?  ( Read more... )

Feeling a little mentally dry and crusty today.  Things are really up and down on this trip for me on this trip.  Half the day I'll feel brilliant and clever, the other I'll feel totally hopeless.  Usually I play about as well as I think I do.  On the plus side, I'm getting better at recognizing the things that put me in those different mindsets.  ( Read more... )

Feeling much better today.  Sinuses still occasionally iffy, but energy back to normal, head back down to usual weight.  Also, I had my earliest start ever since I got back from my travels at the beginning of the month, I was up a little after 8.  The noise issue seems to have gotten better since those two bad nights and the earplugs I got sure ( Read more... )
