IMPORTANT POLL: Activity Check Alterations

Nov 07, 2011 19:50

Hello, everyone! The time has finally come to discuss a possible change in the Activity Check requirements. I realize this is long overdue, but we were all busy with handling the end of the military arc, so that's why there's been a delay. I hope that wasn't too inconvenient for anyone ( Read more... )

I just voted no because I really do not want an AC system that makes my RP feel like homework. I just do not think this well help things at all.

Just to make it clear, it's not really supposed to be extra work so much as a precaution to make sure that someone isn't scraping by with only one tag. For example, just looking at what you've done with Alaric so far this day/night cycle, you've already got 11 posts with him, and nightshift isn't over yet. That means you've already almost reached the high end of requirements with this system -- or possibly already reached it, if you made any bulletin posts with him this past DS.

That being said, if you have any other ideas about how to handle it, let me know.

It's extra work because I have to count how many posts I've made and then prove I've made them instead of doing it the one time. Also I can see this turning into like a crazy mash of unnecessary bulletin board posts to make AC which will be... less than thrilling.

Doing it with one character is simple, but I have 3 and I know I haven't made AC with any of them even over halfway through NS. I'm assuming we'd also have to explain hiatus-related slow posting for myself and for thread mates (like I've only done a few posts with Edward considering Gina was gone for a while because of vacation + no electricity.)

I mean, is there anyone in this game who is honestly scraping by with one tag? I don't think anyone is that slow. I definitely think the bit about posting speed being added to plot posts was a good idea, but otherwise I would prefer to keep the old AC system.

LMAO I HOPE THIS MADE SENSE??? whatev I've been in classes and doing homework all day ok.

It makes sense! And to clarify, threadmates being on hiatus would definitely be taken into consideration with this system. I could respond to your other points but I wanted to avoid getting into in-depth discussions about this since it was mainly meant to poll and get an idea of how people felt about it overall.

I just feel that only expecting one post within a two week period is pretty lenient, all things considered.

I've actually got a question about what kinds of posts would count towards the required post count for the proposed system... Specifically, whether certain kinds of NS movement posts would be included as activity or not.

It could be possible to rack up a large number of posts through solo, hall-by-hall movement during NS. While some movement posts can be quite lengthy and detailed, some are also just one-liners to fill the air between links. Granted, for characters/players with good activity, whether or not these are included is probably a non-issue, but if someone's scraping to reach their post count, would these kinds of posts be differentiated between?

I'm not sure I understand the specifics exactly so lemme ask before I vote lmfao.

So the new system is an AC every six weeks, and you're polling to determine a) when was the last time this character posted prior to the actual AC date and b) how many posts this character made in six weeks?

That's right!

For clarification purposes, when you say "post," do you mean:
-top-level entries in damned proper (or damned-lounge),
-a thread-starting comment in a certain room/shift post,
-or comments in general (wherein a single thread would likely contain many)?

The last one! So any comment made, whether it's a top post or just a reply in a thread. For damned_bulletin, only a set number could count but that's shown in the poll.

Alright, thank you! That's what I was suspecting, considering the numbers provided, but I wanted to make sure.

(Thinking, "if every character had to make ten top-entries during nightshift, would there even be enough locations to cover that??")

I'm worried that this is too complicated -- too many moving parts -- for everyone to keep up with, especially with the hiatus rule. (Plus how many days was someone on hiatus for when there are shift extensions, etc.)

And it doesn't have any good allowance for threadmate slowness -- I'm sure I've had characters at points who would fail to pass this because no one grabbed them during several shifts (or they got one or two posts in and their threadmate evaporated), and then NS stalled out.

But I don't really have a better idea.

IMO, for the second paragraph, there would probably be allowances for that when it's obviously the other person and not you. I've had that happen during a previous AC--where my character literally waited all NS for their threadmate which was past the two weeks, but it was waved since mine was waiting.

I guess in that case my wondering was really how strict it would be -- if this happened, would you get penalized for only throwing the character out for 2/4 dayshift shifts, etc.

But adding more moving parts doesn't seem like the answer either.

Well, for that, it doesn't say anything about having to post to each shift--and I know a lot of us have been just doing 2-3 shifts every DS. It seems to really just be a general X amount of posts, and it doesn't matter where you post to.
