IMPORTANT POLL: Activity Check Alterations

Nov 07, 2011 19:50

Hello, everyone! The time has finally come to discuss a possible change in the Activity Check requirements. I realize this is long overdue, but we were all busy with handling the end of the military arc, so that's why there's been a delay. I hope that wasn't too inconvenient for anyone ( Read more... )

I'm worried that this is too complicated -- too many moving parts -- for everyone to keep up with, especially with the hiatus rule. (Plus how many days was someone on hiatus for when there are shift extensions, etc.)

And it doesn't have any good allowance for threadmate slowness -- I'm sure I've had characters at points who would fail to pass this because no one grabbed them during several shifts (or they got one or two posts in and their threadmate evaporated), and then NS stalled out.

But I don't really have a better idea.

IMO, for the second paragraph, there would probably be allowances for that when it's obviously the other person and not you. I've had that happen during a previous AC--where my character literally waited all NS for their threadmate which was past the two weeks, but it was waved since mine was waiting.

I guess in that case my wondering was really how strict it would be -- if this happened, would you get penalized for only throwing the character out for 2/4 dayshift shifts, etc.

But adding more moving parts doesn't seem like the answer either.

Well, for that, it doesn't say anything about having to post to each shift--and I know a lot of us have been just doing 2-3 shifts every DS. It seems to really just be a general X amount of posts, and it doesn't matter where you post to.

Right, but if I posted to two, got a total of, say, 5 posts on one and no replies to the other, and then my threadmate never showed up in NS, is it my fault for not posting to the other shifts? How much does that "count". Etc.

I think those kind of scenarios are really understood. Thinking that that's an issue seems to be of the belief that the mods are going to be crazy strict on this, which isn't what it seems like at all. Just that it's going to be tighter run. The mods are still the same people, and really understanding of scenarios. If you only tagged to two shifts during the day because you didn't want to get held up by backthreads and then that all happened, they would probably understand.

Right, but it seems like a lot of work for the mods for characters who are "active enough" by what seem to be agreed-upon standards -- reply reasonably quickly, post to several shifts, etc. With three strikes and four characters -- honestly, I feel like I'd end up gone in three DS/NS combos while being active unless I wanted to beg and plead my case each time, and honestly I probably wouldn't. I'd just be really upset and pack up my bags.

Really? I don't stalk you at all, but I always see you everywhere. Even if we took the largest amount--12 posts per cycle--that's easily done within a NS. Or if it's delayed, say six within the night, and three per shift. Even a slow day would be doable with little effort imo. I don't know. =/

Yeah, I feel like I'm everywhere, but that also feels like a lot, though there are always moving posts. Maybe I've got more than I think.

And damnit when I went to go look at numbers I found a thread I dropped accidentally due to either forgetting to track it or notif fail. Argh. Hmm.

Yeah, I do honestly think without bias that the majority of Damned would clear the tightest of these options easily. It just may be taken as something more since it looks complicated at a glance. But really it's not that hard to do when you look at things.

Oh, god, notifs. =| I want to kill LJ.

Going back and looking now that I am awake and not flailing over finding out I'd missed notifs for the second time in a day -- all of mine pass handily this time, but it feels daunting.

As for threadmates slowness, I'd be a lot happier with the proposal if it specifically said what to do there? Because if I feel shy about the idea of having to figure out how to ask for an exception, a newbie might just drop.

Speaking for myself, but I'm really certain Court and Erin have always taken threadmate slowness into account. I'm sure that will carry over in the new system as I doubt they'd punish someone for a threadmate being inactive. They might just be presenting the bare bones of the system; I don't see why they'd exclude exceptions for circumstances like that in practice, especially when it's not the original player's fault.

Since I was asked to clarify this:

Yes, we would be very understanding of the fact that sometimes you have no control over how much you can post. Sadly, that's a part of the Damned's structure that is hard to work around, so I completely understand when it happens.

It's true that it does make for some sticky situations, though, and there can be a vague area there with if you're active enough or not that might cause headaches, so it was a point worth bringing up on your end. Thanks!
