Night 51: West Wing, North Hall 1-B

[From here.]Still empty. Maybe he was just moving faster than usual? Though it seemed the patients poured out in droves at around the same time. Edward imagined the unlocking mechanism worked on all the doors simultaneously, especially since it always occurred immediately after that final intercom announcement ( Read more... )

( ...)

Continuing down the darkened hallway, Bella kept her hand against the wall, listening intently for anything that could be lurking ...

However, at the sound of footsteps, the teenager froze and dug into her pocket, pulling out her flashlight and clicking it on. Truth be told, if it had been some kind of deranged patient wandering the hallways, turning on the flashlight would have ended in disaster. However, because she was waiting for someone ...

When Bella spotted Edward, she let out a sigh of relief ... and prepared herself.

"Hey," she called out to him, clicking off her flashlight once she was close enough. "Looks like you got out before me," lies. She had been thinking. "You win this round, but not the war."

Trying to make light of the situation. She only hoped it wouldn't backfire.

Once he heard her voice, the trifles about his diet and his next meal and even what could possibly happen tonight didn't seem so bad. She had that effect on him; really, she always had. As a vampire that was very close to the brink of having a total meltdown slash panic attack, a pacifier was exactly what he needed.

Which was why he closed the distance between them, wrapping his arms around her midsection with an absolute, iron-clad embrace, tucking his face in the curve of where her neck met her shoulder and simply... breathed her in, gripping the solidarity of her human form and absorbing the heat coming off her in waves. The thirst rose up like a coiled snake, but it was completely ignored as he attempted to feebly make up for the fact he hadn't seen her in over a day, and that was much, much too long for him.

"Just... please give me a moment," Edward mumbled into her skin. He was going to need this to get through the night. "I missed you."

Bella heard Edward move swiftly towards her in the darkness, pausing for a moment, wondering if she had said the wrong thing and Oh god is he mad at me-However, her thoughts were instantly silenced when she felt his arms wrap around her, and she felt her entire body grow hot, her cheeks growing pink. Within seconds her body was reacting to his; her arms wrapped around his torso, fingers gripping tightly onto the fabric of his shirt over his shoulder blades. Her own face was buried in his shoulder, clutching onto him for dear life ( ... )

"It doesn't matter now," he said, surprising himself in the truth; he wasn't concerned about it any more. Perhaps Venom had opened his eyes just the tiniest bit, as many third-person perspectives on his situation weren't given to him often. She seemed stronger now, with the wounds not so deep, and he couldn't bear to give her anymore grief over it. Best to let the matter settle; after all, that little trip home had reminded him that he was not her father, and despite his liking for the man Edward did not want to become as overbearing as he was ( ... )

The pathway was familiar as always, though easier to manage than the nights before for the absence of rain. Being armed this time helped the trip as well, as Kurogane was more prepared for anything that could potentially come at him. Despite that, he didn't want to deal with anything outside of grabbing the magician and getting to the girl's room. So he moved faster than even his normal, nearly at a run to make up time, and was through the field and back inside before breathing in the night air.

Kurogane restrained himself from responding to Fai's stupid cover voice, but fumed inwardly as he led them on to the main hallways. He knew it was all fake, and always would be if Fai stayed the way he was, but it still bothered him. This wasn't anything to be cheery about, faked or otherwise. They had jobs to do, people to find and make talk so that they could get answers and, eventually, away from this place!

Which was one of the other reasons why Kurogane wanted to keep his cool for once. Scolding the magician would only have wasted time and breath.

It was quiet. Just quiet enough for Scott's tastes. Quiet at Landel's meant one of two things: you were still (probably) safe, or you were already dead. And Scott was pretty sure neither he nor Knives were dead yet (unless his understanding of the institute's nature was way, way off), so... Yeah.

"So the door to the rec field is right up here. Shed's not too far out. Hopefully," Scott told Knives as they moved forward. "Any luck, maybe we'll..." Scott shut his mouth after trailing off. If he said "we'll have a totally quiet night for once" out loud, they were pretty much guaranteed to get mauled by a bear straight out the door or something.

He shook his head. "Anyway, you good? Ready to run and stuff if we need to?"

Luckily, so far there were no monsters to hamper Elaine's progress. Good, she thought. It was bad enough having to deal with a threat from within her own body. An external threat on top of that, while maybe not something unmanageable, would have been extremely inconvenient. She had held off undead pirate hordes on minimal sleep as recently as a few days ago in her own timeline; she knew it was possible to operate a cannon and slice off the heads of animated skeletons while simultaneously fantasizing about how very, very nice a feather pillow would have been right about then. It just wasn't an experience she much cared to repeat if she could avoid it, thank you very much.

The population became more spread once inside the next patient wing, at least compared to the traffic in the main hall, which hinted that the other patients had already used their time to attend to their business. After sneaking his way through the more densely populated hallway, the effect was slightly eerie. Had he wasted that much time getting ready...? No, that couldn't have been right. He hadn't run his way through, yes, but that didn't mean he was dragging his feet on the matter.

Strange...

Not that it particularly mattered one way or another. Despite the cue in grip, the Guild Head deftly spun the red ring around his finger as he walked, letting the feel of it edge out the constant, nagging worry of losing time. Tonight would be fine.
