Nightshift 23: M31-M40 Hallway

Dinner had been an altogether depressing affair - Tamaki's problems only seemed to underline what Seimei had said earlier about not relying on other people here. Ritsuka had hoped that perhaps he had been wrong, but if Adel was so easily turned against someone like Tamaki, then who could turn on Ritsuka? Or Seimei for that matter ( Read more... )

Ritsuka hadn't noticed that someone was in front of him until he ran right into them - or rather, her. The shock knocked the wind out of him as well, luckily cutting off his cries for help. When had his throat become so hoarse? The hands on his shoulders didn't calm him any and he looked up at her, eyes wide. He hated being so pathetic, he hated it with everything he had, but he was right now. He had nowhere else to turn.

"Seimei! They took him!" He couldn't believe it, but the fear of losing his brother - of finding a burnt corpse in his place - had him shaking. "I... I can't find him. I went to his room and he was gone."

The young boy reached forward and gripped the girl's shirt front in both hands. "Please - do you know where they take people at night?! I can't let them hurt him!"

Upstairs. That's all he needed to know. Ritsuka almost took off when he gained that tidbit of knowledge, but Elena's hands on his shoulders stopped him. She was right, he needed to calm down, but it was so hard! The thought of Seimei being taken away by the doctors despite Ritsuka's promise to keep them together and safe... It hurt. His small hands slackened their death grip on Elena's shirt as he fought the urge to cry. Seimei had no friends here, he'd said as much himself, so who would help him ( ... )

Faust gathered up his flashlight and a second set of batteries.

He needed to find the morgue tonight. He had to examine the bodies it held. This business with raising the dead made him more and more curious about their methods.

But first, he would meet with Javert and find the pharmacy.

He stepped out into the hallway and glanced around, taking a moment to shine the light up and down it. Nobody was there, and he set off.

Night finally fell. Again, Caim ignored what was said on the intercom, and later, the radio - the arguments of two deranged men meant nothing to him. He merely had to find where their captor was hiding and destroy him, and there had been no real hints in either man's monologue as to that location.

But the radio ... something special. Something hidden, in a place where the devout ... wait. There was a chapel here, wasn't there? He remembered - the patients, a few days ago, had been given the choice between there and the Sun Room. And then their captor had arrived to torment them. So there had to be something there! A key, maybe, or a detailed map.

With a renewed fire within him, Caim ripped his newly-acquired weapon out from under the bed, siezed his paper and a pencil, and stalked out of the room. He would find that hidden secret, and he would use it to escape from here. After he'd destroyed the man behind the intercom, of course.

The doors had only just unlocked and already people were out in the hallways en masse. Omi hugged the wall next to the door, watching people and thinking about what the Doctor had said. He hadn't recognized any of the names that had been taken for... CM-US trials? What were those, anyway? Was it related to the MU-rooms Ed had mentioned?

Omi sighed. He had way too many questions and hardly any answers. It sucked.

He waited for Kurama to join him, and for the hallway to maybe start clearing out. He was still slightly uncomfortable after the interrogation, but showing things like that were just inviting closer prying. "Were those names anyone you knew?"

Kurama stepped out into the hallway after Omi, flashlight in hand and radio dangling from his wrist. That had been a rather...interesting announcement. More and more, Kurama was beginning to wonder just what had gone on between those two, Landel and Jack.

And the last part, more cryptic hints and directions. The first one, Kurama wasn't sure what Jack was getting at... where golden gods bleed the sweet wine of life? He'd have to think on that one. The second location was much easier. The devout knelt in the Chapel, though it was questionable whether it would be a good idea to go there. Youko wouldn't have hesitated, but Kurama was wary.

"Thankfully, no," Kurama replied to Omi's question. It seemed almost a little cruel to him, though. There were people being abducted, taken for whatever purpose, but Kurama had no urge to help them. He didn't know any of them, and there would probably be more than enough 'heroes' to go find them. Still, he felt a little ashamed for his lack of sympathy on the matter.

Omi seemed reluctant to set the pace this time. He didn't have a destination in mind, and he didn't know this place nearly so well as he would like to. Besides, Aya didn't seem to be among the people milling about the hallway, so it was just him and Kurama. For some reason that was giving him the odd urge to just.. well, act like he wasn't Bombay as well as Omi for once. Kurama certainly didn't expect him to lead, so why not take advantage of it ( ... )

Kurama nodded to the mention of weapons. "I tried to get into the shed by the soccer field my first night here, but I was attacked by a monster. I didn't get a chance to actually open the door, but whatever was in there must be useful if it was being guarded." At least, that was his logic.

"It's not far from here, just out the door at the end of the hall. And there's two exits from the field, if we happen to get into trouble. It's probably the safest place to look right now if we want something to fight with."

Everything considered, most of the 'forces' of the building were going to be situated at the front door and at least the Chapel, since Jack had pointed it out so clearly. As out of the way as the shed was and considering that there were no brainwashed patients like last time, it seemed likely that it might be unguarded. Or at the very most, poorly guarded.

Tonight, there was no plan, and that was just fine with Aya. The dinner had been quiet again, and he had shoved food down his throat forcibly, staring at the white walls, annoyed. The quiet time had not gone to waste, however. After he had done a complete check out on his own room for anything useful, he had rolled one of the pens open in frustration and spent few minutes straightening out the small piece of metal thread that was twisted into a stiff spiral within the plastic tube. Slim, strong and on his experience, very capable of doing damage if pulled firmly enough ( ... )

His roommate was the epitome of antisocial, Soujirou reflected for the third or fourth time that night. It wasn't that he had anything against antisocial people, but it was much nicer to have dinner with people who talked back. However, it was past dinner time and there wasn't much leeway to just laze about and think about roommates. He could, but it would hardly be productive.

He picked up the flashlight and picked up three or four pens, tucking them away. They wouldn't be useful as weapons unless it was against an unarmed patient. Soujirou had full confidence in his ability to drive one home in the neck or eye, however. While it wouldn't do against a monster either, they were certainly better than being unarmed. His fingers could only dig so far into a skull for minimal damage.

Soujirou nodded to himself, twice, while in the doorway of his room before heading out into the hallway. Once again he picked a direction at random and began to walk. Eventually he'd meet something interesting. Or someone.

Aya had patience, his stubborn silence was perhaps one of his most characteristic features. Staring walls and waiting minutes to tick past was still not his favorite pastime. When he was sure Omi had made it out from the hallway, possibly from the whole block and this side of the building (it didn't matter too much), he finally let himself move.

The dark hallway was now practically deserted and he didn't bother turning on the flashlight. He wasn't worried about heading out all alone, it was the preferred method of action for him. But it was different than having a team behind his back and for that reason alone he kept his steps measured and calm, gazing upon the people he countered with curious eyes.

Soujirou flicked the flashlight on every so often to see a stretch of hall and then turned it off again. If he understood how it worked well enough, then the flashlight would eventually stop working. Something about power and the like and limited use. Either way, he didn't want to waste what usefulness it had. Soujirou preferred to look people in the eye when he spoke to them.

He blinked and turned on the flashlight. Was that a person? He pushed the button on the light and moved closer.
