Night 51: Main Hallway, 1-West

Aug 28, 2010 03:00

[from here and waiting for the opposite one.~]The hall was as empty as she had seen it. Silence glistened as severe as any palpable source. Voices echoed in the distance, but here there was nothing. No one. No sounds, but the dull creaks of a settling building and shifting ghosts. Last night gave rise to a new awareness. She did not take the ( Read more... )

[from here--and for the LDGC!]

Out into the main halls, there was almost no one. The thought that she was early for once in her life was a little shocking, especially since she had slept a little. But hey. At least she didn't have to make up for being late. She hadn't seen Soma in a long time, it seemed. It'd be good to see her again. Senna really regretted not hanging out with her friends more.

After waiting a couple of seconds, she wandered over to the wall close-by and leaned against it. Half in amusement and half in memory, she crossed her arms over her chest, head tilted down. Did she look like Hitsugaya that way, in her uniform and stern? She felt like making a face to ruin the image and stuck her tongue out at the floor. It had been a while, since she had felt at all playful again.

With minutes ticking by, the girl grew concerned. Of all of her friends, maybe excluding Momo, Soma was not the type to be late. Frowning, Senna pushed off the wall to trot back the way she came.

Oh, hey, there were people in this part of the building. Minako had started to wonder if she'd been moving particularly fast or something, when she hadn't seen anyone back where she'd come from, but apparently not. Or at least not that fast. Well, at least she wasn't late. Her teachers would've been thrilled to see her being on time, wouldn't they?

Minako giggled quietly to herself, then shushed the sound with a nervous glance around before moving onward.

Barely anyone was in the hall, even though usually this was the very hub of patient activity. He'd apparently made it all the way out here in record time.

Kratos paused by the wall near the staircase as he tried to remember the exact location of the patient possessions room on the map. It was difficult to recall: he hadn't been to the second floor since his first disastrous mission with Arts and Crafts, the one that had ended in his "death".

Most of the other patients in the hallway didn't get any more than a passing glance from Rita. She didn't recognize any of them, and between the dim lighting and everyone wearing the same bland uniform, they looked mostly the same anyway.

...Except for one person. She recognized that man, with his reddish hair and his stoic demeanor. What drew Rita's attention, however, was the sword he carried. Where in the world did he get that? Rita knew that Kratos wouldn't be too pleased to see her again, but something petty like that wasn't going to stop her from satiating her curiosity.

Sauntering over to where the tall man stood, Rita greeted him with a very simple, "Hey. Where did you get that sword?"

Kratos had seen Rita as she'd walked down the hall, and had very discreetly tried to move a little further into the shadows. It hadn't worked - she'd noticed him anyway - but at least her question this time wasn't centered on his Cruxis Crystal.

"It used to belong to a dear friend of an acquaintance of mine," he replied, keeping an eye on the hall. "Her friend disappeared, though, and so she acquired the blade. She then passed it on to me. No reason was given, but she knew I was in need of a proper sword, and holding onto it would probably have been...painful."

Kratos looked down at Rita curiously. "Why do you ask?" Surely she already knew about the lone weapon-maker within the Institute...

Kratos wasn't nearly as evasive this time as he had been at breakfast. Perhaps that just showed how personal a subject the Cruxis Crystal was to him. With any luck, it also meant that Kratos was ordinarily a much more cooperative person.

"I wanted to know how the patients here get their hands on proper weapons," Rita answered. "I thought I might try searching the Patient Possessions Room on the second floor, but..." She crossed her arms, studying Kratos for any nonverbal cues that might hint that her hunches could be correct. "I'm guessing it isn't that simple."

Having only been at the institute for a couple days, combined with the heavy censorship of the bulletin board, made it difficult for Rita to find information on her own. As a result of that, many of her conversations quickly turned into interrogations as she pulled as much information as possible from her fellow patients.

Another yawning corridor greeted Morrigan. Wider, perhaps, though it was difficult to tell as she found the far wall, turning to her left after a bit of mental deliberation to follow along it. There were a few more people present than had been in the hall behind, but not many. From that small pocket of people at the outset, she'd expected more population. Not that she wanted company, but the near-emptiness made the far-off echoes all the more unnerving. It wasn't entirely unlike what she imagined being trapped underground would be.

She saw the shape of the door frame loom ahead, and a small, satisfied smile curved her lips. Finally, progress. She found the handle of the door, which felt cool to the touch, and gleamed in the lights thrown by other passers by. (From those clubs? She'd have to experiment with hers, to see how it worked.) Metal? It had to be, and oddly smooth at that. Whoever had built this prison had gone to a great deal of expense. That was a less than comforting thought.

Sechs took a quick look-around at his surroundings before moving towards the center of the hall. The area was slowly beginning to fill up with other patients (and so far no monsters thankfully).

He paused when he recognized one of the shadowy figures. Hey! There was that guy he had lunch with the other day; the same one who didn't like tomatoes and whom Sechs nearly threw a whole slice of pizza at for calling him stupid! Sechs couldn't help but shoot the man an arrogant sneer; it was the only greeting he was up to giving as he prowled his way towards the stairs. He didn't think that the burgundy-haired man would be pleased to see him either. Besides, Sechs had no time to talk; he had a second floor to reach.
