Night 51: M41-50 Hallway

Aug 27, 2010 20:16

He hadn't expected to see a note to him from anyone other than his commanding officers. He'd caught the bulletin (from Dean, wasn't it?) addressed to him before the dinner shift. McCoy remembered him well enough. Rough looking kid, thought he could practice some medicine with nothing but a belt and dirty jacket, but generally had his heart in the ( Read more... )

The dinner shift probably could have been a little better, but it wasn't awful, either. Claude had managed to get a few bites of food down, and his roommate hadn't invaded his personal space too much. All things considered, that was all he could have asked for.

Hearing the Head Doctor go on about sleep studies made Claude tense up, and he was half-waiting to hear the door open up again so some orderlies to drag one of them away. He hated that feeling of helplessness, that all he could do was sit there and wonder if their room would become so unlucky again. But then he heard the faint click of the locks sliding back out of place, and Claude couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. Thank goodness... He wasn't sure what he'd do if he or his roommate got targeted, but thankfully he didn't have to worry about that for tonight ( ... )

[From here.]And so he had made it to Claude's room in hardly any time at all. Guy was curious about whether or not his friend's roommate might be around this time, but he also realized that he hadn't met any of them except for Asch, and that didn't quite count. He hadn't been Claude's roommate the second time around, anyway ( ... )

Mason had already left, which meant that Claude was on his own until someone showed up. Not much time had gone by, however, before he heard a knock at the door, followed by a familiar voice. He instantly straightened in his seat, perking up when he realized that Guy had arrived after all. That sure was a relief! As much as he hated to admit it, he wasn't sure if he trusted himself enough to properly look after Natalia while she tried to heal him ( ... )

From the sounds of it, Claude was actually in pretty good spirits. It didn't seem that Natalia had made her way there yet, but that made sense; she had a much farther distance to travel. Once again, Guy was just glad that he and Claude had been placed in the same block of rooms, if not the same hallway ( ... )

Long after it was too late to do anything about it, it occurred to Logan that he hadn't actually hashed this out with anybody. Kurt knew they were going to the basement, but he hadn't said "wait for me at whatever spot;" that was all the kid knew: basement, at some point, from somewhere.

Tifa at least knew where to meet him, but how long would she stick around? He hadn't told her that he was going to get Kurt first - but if he didn't get Kurt first, Kurt might come looking for him, and then who the hell knew; everybody would be all over the place. He couldn't afford to waste tonight fucking around.

That thought decided it for him: Kurt first. If Tifa didn't want to wait, she was out one makeshift weapon for another night, and that would be too damn bad. With his flashlight in one hand, and the pry bar and the ring in the other, he set off to find M1.

That odd, crawling feeling made its way down the Scarecrow's back at the mention of the sleep studies. The notion of anyone else going through what had happened to him left his middle unsettled; the thought they might take him again for any reason caused his courage to leave him entirely. If he had to choose a single moment of his time at the Institution to convince him of the Wizard Landel's wickedness, that night would be a strong candidate. He'd never been more thankful to have friends around.

The Scarecrow moved quickly after the nightly announcement ended, collecting his flashlight from his drawer and heading for the door. He had his mind set now- with any luck, he was going to get some brains he could use.

He stopped at the door, turning to give Depth Charge an optimistic smile. "I'm off to find some brains- I'll be twice the thinker I am now when I have them, you'll see!"

And with that, he was off.

If they were going to continue to try this night after night, then it was at least a good thing that Artemis's room wasn't too far from his own. The hallways weren't all that crowded yet, as not many patients had made the trip out of their rooms, and it looked like he was the first to arrive. He'd like to think that if they got an early enough start they might actually accomplish what they'd meant to the past few nights, but one never could tell in this place. They could move as fast as humanly possible and still wake up before walking out the door.

Sai knocked on said door now, waiting patiently for Artemis or his mist-nin roommate to respond.

If the broadcasts over the intercom the night before had been disturbing, they had nothing on that night's. Not only did these 'sleep studies' sound ominous in light of everything else Oliver had heard, the son of a bitch running the place seemed to have found himself a captive. Jill. The name didn't mean anything to him, but what he heard was still enough to make him feel more than a little ill.

His inspection of the room didn't yield anything different than the night before had. In the end, all he added to the flashlight was a hand-held radio and an empty keyring that might, might lend itself to use as a cheap lockpick if twisted the right way ( ... )
