Night 51: M81-90 Hallway

Scott didn't like the sound of that intercom announcement one bit. Granted, he was hard-pressed to think of one he did like. Maybe the ones that involved pancakes? ...No. No, not even those. By virtue of the man talking about them, those announcements were tainted. Those pancakes were tainted. Tainted pancakes.

Ew.In any case, it sounded like ( Read more... )

There were a few people lingering around the hallway, though not many. Oliver gave them a quick once-over as he headed back toward the end of the hall. None of them seemed terribly threatening, but looks could be deceiving, and he didn't quite dismiss them from his mind.

He came to a stop outside room M82, and switched the flashlight from his right hand to his left, hesitating just a moment before knocking sharply on the door.

LeChuck was ready this time when the door unlocked. He waited at his door until he heard someone passing quickly, and opened it silently. Indeed, Threepwood was hurrying down the hall, probably straight to Elaine's own room. The Dread Pirate chuckled - softly - as he followed the ponytail disappearing around the corner.

Claude let out a small breath as he squinted through the darkness at the room numbers. M81, M82... Guy had been right that it was probably at the end of this hall. Looking ahead, he quickened his pace and skipped over a couple of doors entirely. By the time he looked up at the room numbers again, his eyes landed on M87.

He felt more winded than he normally would have, and it probably showed, but Claude had to attribute that to some of the ill effects of the experiments on top of not eating as well as he was used to. Thankfully, it wasn't that big of a deal. Standing a little straighter now, he gave a sharp knock on the door.

"Da--" He caught his near slip of the tongue and corrected himself. "Er, Mr. Ronixis? Are you there? It's me, Claude."

They had really made it. Guy was a little bit surprised at that, considering how often the night ended at the most unfortunate times. Still, he was glad that they would maybe be able to clear things up now -- or it might at least give Claude some peace of mind. They made it down to the right room in hardly any time; clearly, both of them were far too used to wandering these halls.

Guy wasn't sure why Claude was bothering to knock when they were in such a hurry, but he didn't question the other man about it. He caught that slip, and only smiled to himself in response. It had to be a pretty hard habit to break.

A few seconds passed, but there was no reply; the door didn't open, and he didn't hear anyone call through from inside. Guy held back a concerned sigh as he glanced to his friend. "I think we'd better just go in," he suggested, though he didn't open the door himself. Claude would, when he was ready.

Claude bit his lower lip as he anxiously waited for a reply that never came. When Guy spoke up, though, he realized that his suggestion was probably best. They couldn't turn back now just because there wasn't an answer, and by now it was pretty obvious that they weren't going to get an invitation to go in ( ... )

Unlike Claude, Guy wasn't too surprised to see that the room was empty. It was hard for most patients to stay in if they didn't have good reason to, and apparently Ronixis hadn't. He was probably out somewhere, either doing his own thing (he seemed like a pretty independent guy) or worrying about them. Whatever it was, Guy didn't think it was necessarily a time to panic ( ... )
