Night 50: M21-M30 Hallway

Jul 11, 2010 21:42

O.K., what had made it back with him. Pipe, flashlight, toolbox? All present and accounted for. The kit had a few new dents in it, courtesy of one exploding lab bench, but the hinges still open and shut. He didn't need it tonight. A bottle of mixed pharmaceuticals extracted from it was enough in case something tried to eat them or Scarecrow's ( Read more... )

His flashlight wasn't working anymore. He'd tried it earlier. Things just kept going wrong for him. He hesitated outside of his room - he couldn't stay there. Too alone, too empty. Too much to think about. He should walk. Just walk. Afraid and without light, Shinji started walking, tracing one hand over the wall, counting doors as he went. He had to turn left at the end of the hallway, then right....

[from dinner]

Telepaths was a possible explanation. Sam wished they'd been able to go inside the motel room. That way, he could've taken a look through the books or the files on his laptop. See if they were there. It would've determined the level of access the institute had. No way telepaths could be powerful enough to pull things from his mind even he didn't remember. Construct books in their entirety.

He'd have to find someone else to ask, then.

"Yeah, I guess we are," he agreed. "But I don't know. I think it helps to know what happened."

But he'd always wanted to know for the sake of knowing, which had driven both his dad and Dean crazy. Mostly Dean because Dean was usually the one he'd bothered consistently about...everything ( ... )

Sam had a point about knowledge being power and all that, but it didn't do him much good if he had no clue of what to do with that information. He wasn't sure if Sam had much of an idea, either, but they could at least keep it in mind in case something else came up. It would make them less prone to trusting things that the head doctor pulled on them in the future, in any case.

Granted, Peter completely destroyed his own argument when the intercom announcement continued on and he also went about searching through his desk drawer, his food forgotten. As much as he shuffled the items in there around, though, he saw nothing, which meant...

Yeah, Sam had it. Peter had to stop himself from standing up from his seat to check it out for himself, but in the end that wasn't necessary, since his roommate tossed it over. Peter fumbled to catch the ring and then used his flashlight to give it a better look. It looked like the sort of thing you'd buy in a souvenir shop or something, but apparently it had teleporting powers.

Weird. People with ( ... )

Sam had a point, even if it did mean that they would be dooming some other patients to taking the plunge instead of going for it themselves. That wasn't really Peter's style, but chances were that those patients were going to try it whether or not he did, and so he probably didn't need to worry about it too much ( ... )

There was nothing to recommend dinner except for the quiet. A vegetarian meal wasn't provided, and the nurse refused to give L an extra slice of cheesecake, claiming that she wouldn't have enough to go around. He tackled the steak with grim resolve, managing a few bites and finishing the side dishes ( ... )

As he thought about it, he got up and prepared the rest of his supplies. The machete-like axe joined the ring and the bandages and a small first aid kit on top of his desk. Unrolling a length of bandage, he sawed through it with the kitchen knife, then threaded it through the ring, then tied it off and put it over his head, around his neck, tucking it all under his shirt. There was a risk that the strip of gauze might be used to choke him, but an opponent would have to be clever and close to do it. If he wound up in any situation as dire as that, suffocation would be the least of his worries. Everything he had faced so far preferred to cut or crush ( ... )

Abe didn't touch his dinner. He sat on the bed, knees pulled up to his chest, head against the wall, eyes closed. To his credit, L didn't bother him for what was on his mind the way Red might have, Abe wasn't sure what he'd be able to say in response ( ... )

It wasn't as if he hadn't meant to check the bulletin. The nurses had insisted he needed arts and crafts time, so that's what he'd been stuck doing. Not that he minded a creative outlet, but it left him totally out of the loop with planning what to do for the night. He could look for Leonard, the guy was almost certain to be wandering around wondering where he was again. Or he could go after Sho. With no real plan or anything, that didn't seem like the best idea.

And what was with the announcement about those rings? It was almost like the doctor guy was trying to help them or something, which had to be total BS. It had to be, right?

Not like there was any ring in his room when he checked. Still, he was glad enough to have his mp3 player back. And he'd managed to sneak some supplies from arts and crafts and a few very raw fingers later, he'd attached a grand total of two pins to a crappily sewn bracelet he'd made out of felt and whatever else he could find. At least it kept the pins where he could use them.

He pinned ( ... )

[from here]He gave the door labeled M21 a solid rap, but didn't wait for a response before turning the knob and pushing it open. Though Shikamaru hadn't personally met Uchiha Obito, the resemblance to Sasuke was obvious--enough to cause a brief twinge of irritation, even, which he quickly recognized as illogical and brushed aside. The kid was what...thirteen? He looked even younger, sleeping peacefully like he wasn't in some crazy nuthouse, like he wasn't a ninja at all. Must be nice. Then again, Shikamaru probably looked like that when he slept too ( ... )
