NIGHT 50: F21-F30 HALLWAY

Jul 09, 2010 17:42

[F23]

Once finished with her dinner Nunnally had reached into her desk drawer in search of her journal, thinking to make some notes while she had nothing more to do than wait for the approach of night (for that was all she had to wait for, certainly-- they wouldn't return again tonight... would they?). Though the journal was there, she found ( Read more... )

Elaine was disappointed to find nothing in her desk drawer at the announcement. So, someone else in their group must have gotten Landel's little trinket. Guybrush, perhaps? He was the person who had been in the Institute longest; that would make sense. Sense or not, though, the thought of Guybrush Threepwood being in possession of yet another questionable magic ring made Elaine positively cringe. Would that be better or worse than LeChuck getting his hands on it, she wondered?

Then there was Morgan. Goodness knew if the hunter had gotten it, she might have already smashed the thing and made for the quarry in the hopes of high-tailing it to freedom. But no, Elaine corrected after that initial cynicism; even Morgan wouldn't be that impulsive. With the importance she placed on sharp objects, Elaine doubted Morgan would go far without first obtaining a weapon from Leon. If Morgan had the ring, there would be little worry of the hunter ditching out, Elaine assured herself ( ... )

Sickness was not something Erika was used to, nor terribly fond of, which was probably why she more or less ignored her roommate's existence. While she had questions for Nunnally, it seemed like the detective had other things to investigate for tonight. Things that she missed last night, for she was "sick", and it was pretty clear that Erika didn't quite believe it herself. It seemed strange that a girl would be in so much denial over catching the common cold.

Her sinuses were adequately decongested by the time the next nightshift rolled around and Erika was out, pillowcase in one hand and the flashlight in another. She missed something yesterday, and apparently she had also missed a vital clue. Still, all hope wasn't lost - all the detective had to do was find someone who had the item the Head Doctor was talking about in his announcement. And then"It will take more than an illness to keep Furudo Erika from investigating," The girl smugly told the halls, as if they were listening, before perching in front of her door. Now, it was ( ... )

Leela put her boots on, thinking that you never really appreciated kicking people until you lost the ability to do it properly. Unless it was Zapp. She felt confident she'd always gotten the full enjoyment kicking him could provide. Like she had the night before, she took the flashlight. She was getting a lot better at judging distances, but she still needed all the help she could get in the dark.

Unlike the night before, she gave the door a suspicious look before opening it, as if it might be guilty of false advertising, just sitting there, looking like a door that led to the hall it was supposed to. She heard someone talking out there, and she didn't think the doors here were that crafty, so out she went ( ... )

Erika didn't have to wait long; in fact, she didn't have to do anything as she was approached by a woman with purple hair. Purple, sort of like the color of her Master's eyes. If one looked, they might have seen Erika giving the woman's hair a fond look before she directed her gaze back at the woman proper. Now that was an interesting question.

"That would depend, but generally speaking, my hair color is not natural where I should be from," Erika noted with a hint of pride in her voice as she swept back one of her blue pigtails. She was quite proud of having the right to have hair that shared the same lovely shade as Bernkastel's and never passed up the chance to brag about it.

She made no effort to clarify her strange answer though, preferring to stay on topic. That was, the events of last night and the strange object that a few patients were supposed to possess.

"Now, if I may ask a question: were you around for the events of last night?"

Leela took a second to try to parse that one, couldn't really make sense of it, and so shrugged it off.

"Yes, I was here. Yesterday was my first day, actually. Talk about a rude awakening." She decided it wouldn't be wise to go into detail about just how rude with a total stranger, funky hair or not. Hi, I look human, but I'm really a mutant from the future; you kind of couldn't use that one whenever you felt like it. You had to be pretty sure the other person would be okay with it first.

"I'm Leela, by the way." She felt the stirrings of righteous indignation over the fact that there were so many young people here. Kids were supposed to be out there being kids, free and pimply and awkward. Not kidnapped and stuck in a phony insane asylum that made the Orphanarium look like paradise. At least owls and malnutrition had been the most they'd had to worry about there.

"Are you brand-new?"

Amaterasu was cautious as she crossed the threshold of her room and stepped out into the dark hallway. She glanced left and right, ears open to detect the sounds of any nurses or staff members that might apprehend her. When she felt safe enough, the goddess lifted the map Takashi had drawn and peered closely at it.

It was hard to see without much light, but she managed to spot Room F30, which she stood outside of now. Mori's room was M60 and Ammy suddenly realized it would take a bit of navigating to get there. She glanced ahead, made note of her surroundings and then moved into the main hallway.

To begin again with a goal in mind required preparations. A moment of habits, a comfort in a place unknown. Like the night before, strange and uncertain, Rei moved to the closet and the suit hanging within. It took minutes to step out of a uniform and into another, a press of a button emptied the air surrounding her body. The touch of material against her was like a second skin, and relieved in a way, she moved to gather her flashlight.

Another thing well-known was the feel of an Eva starting, the flash of reality shifting and nerves connecting. That, too, had been familiar, well-known, and yet she woke here. Moved through the motions here. And nowhere was the call of Unit 00. Though she had ears to hear, only silence came.

All this was passed over and released. The door opened at her touch.

Another quiet night. If Franziska didn't know any better, she was beginning to suspect that her roommate was sleeping through the dinner shifts just to avoid her. Not that it mattered to the prosecuting prodigy, but it was a little...odd. No matter. As soon as the night began, Franziska knew she couldn't procrastinate any longer. Taking the flashlight out from its hiding place, she set it on her desk and clicked the light on so it sent a halo up at the ceiling. It wasn't the best lighting, but it was better than nothing at all ( ... )
