NIGHT 50: F21-F30 HALLWAY

Jul 09, 2010 17:42

[F23]

Once finished with her dinner Nunnally had reached into her desk drawer in search of her journal, thinking to make some notes while she had nothing more to do than wait for the approach of night (for that was all she had to wait for, certainly-- they wouldn't return again tonight... would they?). Though the journal was there, she found ( Read more... )

Lana walked up to the door and rapped twice, the same quick rat-tat she would use as a first warning to an oversleeping younger sister. It likely would wake her if she'd fallen asleep, but that was an unavoidable risk. Lana had no intention of waiting out here all night with only her radio for company.

Perhaps they could find somewhere less dangerous to talk, whether that was Ema's room or somewhere nearby. The investigation was not, for once, on an abbreviated schedule; they could wait a day. Sit down and talk about...something. Anything. Scientific investigation, if Ema had her way, and Lana could afford to let her. The investigation itself could wait until morning.

Ema was very much awake in her room, packing a makeshift bag as fast as she could given the severely limited light provided by the two flashlights she had in her possession. Unfortunately, Agatha's taser-weapon was nowhere near complete, but some of the tools might come in handy--in they went. Her journal and a few pens quickly followed, as did her radio; just because it had been useless so far didn't mean it couldn't somehow come through for her tonight. As it was, Ema needed all the help she could get ( ... )

The door opening and Ema practically flying our was not on the list of contingencies Lana had considered.  She'd been prepared for grief, pain, fear -- anything but a relentless determination more suited to the real version of the counterfeit Ms. Fey.  Or maybe it suited Ema just fine, and it was one more thing Lana had missed.  Either way, if she didn't stop thinking and start moving, Ema was clearly going to let it carry her out the door and into who-knows-what sorts of danger.

"W-wait!  Hold it!  Took Agatha where?  When?"  She reached out and grabbed a handful of Ema's T-shirt, trying to avoid anything that would exacerbate already-sensitive nerves (in more than one sense), but whether or not she stopped voluntarily, she was going to stop.

Tonight wasn't another experimentation night,  which meant Agatha had been brainwashed into attacking her fellow patients.  What, exactly, one teenage girl could do intentionally against armed, grown adults was unclear, but that she wouldn't hesitate to try was.  Ema was right to be concerned ( ... )

Ema yelped as Lana grabbed her shirt and forced her to a full stop, a combination of surprised and pained as inertia allowed her to keep moving a half-second longer than the fabric itself, causing the cotton to press against her skin. Luckily, the sensation was both minor and short-lived; there were more important things going on than the inconveniences of Ema's increased nervous activity. Agatha needed to be found.

Rounding on her sister in what strongly resembled a panic, Ema shouted, "Right after dinner! They came in and took her, just like they did to me!" Honestly, why was Lana wasting time making her answer obvious questions? What other opportunity was there to take Agatha away to this "special counseling"? "I don't know where she is, just that she's gone and we have to go find her. She came after me..." Her voice trailed off briefly at the reminder of her own experience at the hands of Landel's men, but she quickly forced herself to rally. This was about Agatha. "Have you heard anything about special counseling ( ... )

While the dinner they had provided had appealed to Aigis, she could not disguise her disgust after the lights dimmed and Landel reappeared on the intercom. She knew a thing or two about teleportation but she had never known a ring to have enough power to transport one or many people. And it was a gift from Landel, someone who deserved no trust. Still, she reached into her drawer to check and, lo! There was a ring, just as he had said. This meant that Yukari did not have one. Just as well. Aigis didn't like it, not one bit! She wanted to destroy it, but knowing it would probably teleport her just as Landel had said it would, she refrained from crushing it. Instead, she placed it on her finger, just in case. She didn't want Momo to accidentally find it and activate it, in case it turned out to be dangerous ( ... )

Aigis had just finished detailing an exact copy of Carter's sketch from earlier on the back of her picture she had been allowed to return with to her room when the radio on her desk sputtered out its message. This "Marc" seemed enthusiastic about helping them, but his words were lost before his message could be completed. Aigis hoped it was only an electronic error but she wouldn't put it past Landel to fill them with hope and then cut off their only connection to potential allies in the outside world. Aigis wished the man luck, but she didn't want to rely on his help in case it was all some elaborate trap.

Placing her picture now in the folds of her notebook between the pages of her newest journal entry, she retrieved her flashlight and then the baseball bat from the closet. Taking a deep breath, Aigis stepped out her door.

[from here]Someone had decided to turn the main F-A block hall into a training ground. Though he questioned the safety in something like that, what with other patients coming and going through these halls throughout the night, it was probably safer here than in somewhere else in the Institute that might have more space. It was an odd choice of weapon, though, and curious. He hadn't thought many others aside from Yuffie used shuriken that big. In any case, he had more important things to worry about ( ... )

It seemed like Lelouch was running a little late tonight-- perhaps it was just her imagination, but Nunnally was usually good when it came to judging time. She hoped he hadn't run into any trouble on the way over, like one of the "monsters" she'd been told about. Or that he hadn't run afoul of the Institute as she had, but... surely not. He was probably just delayed in leaving. Perhaps he had something to discuss with his roommate.

The sound of a knock on the door made her heart jump, but the voice that followed wasn't familiar at all. Not her brother, then, but who could it be? After a brief pause to consider Nunnally pushed away her journal and rose, once more marveling at the fact that she could do so, and moved to the door with her flashlight. There wasn't anything dangerous about someone looking for a friend, was there? Lelouch likely wouldn't agree, but he wasn't here at the moment ( ... )

The first hall had been about as dull as it could get. It seemed like most people got out of their rooms even faster than Zack had expected, though there had also been a few sleeping patients who had worried him. No sleeping Aerith, though, and if that pattern continued it either meant she'd headed out without a word to them all day (unlikely), or she was gone ( ... )

Cloud's thoughts mirrored Zack's. If possible, this girl looked even more harmless than Aerith did, and far too young. Anger welled up inside of him at the thought of someone like this being subjected to the whims of whatever mad doctor ran this place. Their current quest only made the situation worse. What sort of evil bastards were they dealing with?

It was a good thing she was staying in her room where it was safe. He might have given in before, but if this girl asked to come along with them, he'd have none of it. He'd block the door with the largest object he could find. "Are you waiting on someone? You don't plan on leaving, do you?"

Perhaps he spoke too quickly, sounded a little too demanding, but even with an escort she was in no position to be fighting off anything. Everyone's abilities were weakened here, and there was no way her safety could be guaranteed. (Especially not if the Institute decided to go tossing them through random entryways again.)

“Monsters…” He couldn’t hide some of his disbelief in his voice. Part of the disbelief came from the fact that he didn’t think this was entirely real, the other part came from the fact that he was starting to accept that all of this might be possible, and somehow, someway, there really were monsters. This was the sort of thing he used to think about when he was younger. Protecting his friends from monsters and acting like a hero. Now that he was an adult, he didn’t feel like much of a hero and he’d be happier if his friends never came across any danger ( ... )

After the two men had left Nunnally still couldn't stop thinking about their visit-- they were so concerned about their missing friend, and if they'd been going door to door as it seemed they had, it must have been a long and frustrating search. She knew there was nothing she could have done to help them, especially without even knowing the woman they were trying to find, but she wished she could have. They'd both seemed so nice, too... maybe she should check up on them in the morning ( ... )
