Day 23: Game Room, Evening Shift.

Apr 14, 2007 10:48

Fayt had been doing.. something. For some time, apparently, as he came in during the children shower scenes. Being over the age (yes, despite how he looked), he wasn’t sent there, meaning he had three options. Music Room. Game Room, and Sun Room ( Read more... )

And just what sorts of games would they have us play? The question undoubtedly had more meaning than would be found in the Game Room, but Homura elected to go there anyway. If nothing else, it would give him an opportunity to learn more about the layout of this place, something that would be important since he would have to go metal-hunting at night.

Besides, he could use something trivial after the serious conversation he had with Kyouya in the cafeteria. And when he didn't see any of the men from his world, Homura felt a strange bit of relief; it took effort to stay a step ahead, and energy Homura felt lacking at the moment.

Ah, the times when Homura felt his age.

After her discussion with Raine and Dean Reinforce also had the larger games of the institute on her mind, but she entered the game room purely by chance. Belkan culture was largely devoid of such entertainments, except where they promoted strategic thinking, and she had little interest in playing when the patients could offer so much more as diversions and allies both ( ... )

Homura turned at the unfamiliar voice that greeted him, and looked over the woman who was nearly as tall as himself. She wasn't one he could remember seeing around, but given the number of people who seemed to be in this place, that was hardly surprising.

But there was the possibility that she was one of the ones he had arranged meetings with on the common board. Particularly that one who claimed to be a weapon, or the other of a race he had no knowledge of. So he smiled politely, his posture open, if still arrogant, and nodded.

"I am. But I do not know your name, I am afraid."

"I am Reinforce. Rein if you like. The other immortal from the bulletin board." Arrogance was not a trait that sat well with her, though in her own fashion she had plenty, and Homura's brought a hint of challenge to her eyes.

Her words, though, were entirely polite. "If you have the time I'd like to have that talk. Would you like to sit?"

The Game Room.

This was where Kaylee had gotten so mad at Simon yesterday, where she'd met...Jack. Jack. She couldn't really think of him as anything other than Jack. How was he? Where was he? And how much of yesterday...and last night...had been an act?

The mechanic had meant to ask Inara about it, but didn't know how to approach the subject. Inara was the best judge of men that Kaylee knew (she was trained to be, after all), but she didn't feel quite comfortable admitting what she had done last night. And it wasn't the sex, either. Kaylee liked to detail her exploits to all that would listen (and usually that was limited to the various moving parts of the engine room and sometimes Jayne)...she was extremely comfortable with her body and open about her sexuality. It was who she'd done it with. It still felt so...intensely private. Only that kid, Adelheid, knew right now, and she wanted to keep it that way for the time being.

Kaylee decided that when she did finally feel like telling someone, the Companion would be ( ... )

Valyn wasn't sure what to think. He'd showered, had two meals, and knew absolutely no more than he had earlier. He found himself wandering a bit, when allowed a choice of where to go. He was growing tired of the Sun Room - ancestors, he was already getting far too used to this place! The Game Room was foriegn and confusing, as he had never been much for games - cards and dice and knuckles were what most young lords enjoyed - but it was better than nothing.

No one familiar, save for the man from breakfast. Who was speaking with someone. Valyn found himself sinking gracefully into a seat near a human woman, his mind caught up in thoughts of this place and worrying over Shadow. Though none reached his face - his expression was calm and mild, as always.

Kaylee had been so preoccupied with her own thoughts that she barely noticed the young man sitting down near her. He had the eerie, almost inhuman beauty of some the other people that she'd seen here, especially those with the odd-colored hair. She wondered why that was.

Well, it wouldn't do to be so caught up in what had already happened, not when there were new people to meet! She always liked hearing new stories. Plus, he looked like he could use some cheering up.

"Hey there."

Valyn simply nodded in the woman's direction, polite and an automatic reaction from years of training.

"My lady." She wasn't an elven woman, but there was no need not to be polite. He didn't think to ask her anything, his views on women being the same as they had been for years. He didn't mean it, it was simply how he was raised. And despite evidence to the contrary - Shana was far more capable than most men Valyn knew - he couldn't help but classify women as weaker and less useful than men.

The women Valyn knew fell into two categories. Concubines and Elven ladies.

The aches were gone, for now at least, and Eddie Brock could breathe a little easier - or he could, if it wasn't for the fact he was pretty sure Luffy had cracked a rib during the fight at the pond last night. True, he'd been bandaged and probably treated since the memory gap between last night and this morning, but that didn't mean he could take in a deep breath and not have it protest and protest loudly.

He was also still starving.

Trying to take his mind off the hunger - both human and symbiote - Brock wandered about the Game Room, trying to collect his thoughts. He saw a few faces in the room that he'd seen before, but hadn't talked too personally, and was content to leave it at that for now. The interview with Stefan Richter had been interesting, to say the least. It wasn't every day he met a self-professed supervillian, much less one claiming he had eight spider legs attached to his back and, furthermore, claiming that symbiotes were common on his Earth.

Brock shuddered. More symbiotes. While he was dedicated to his, to being ( ... )

To be honest, Larxene had accomplished more in the last shift that in any other instance since arriving in Landel’s. Finally, she was making progress. However, with Naminé gone, the Nobody needed to find a new play thing, and what better place to find toys than in the Game Room?

Being her first time inside said room, she took a moment to look around. There were several people already inside, but none of them seemed interesting enough for her.

The available collection of games pretty much sucked too.

Disappointed, she was thinking about the leaving the room. No reason to stay around if there wasn’t any entertainment.

However, the Nobody noticed that she was already standing next to someone. It wasn’t a familiar face, no. But she did remember seeing him around from time to time.

“Hey… Aren’t you that reporter I’ve heard about?”

What was his name again?

Man, this reporter business was getting around a lot faster than he expected. Then again, he had practically advertised it all over the bulletin a day or so ago, so maybe he shouldn't be that surprised in the first place.

He turned and couldn't help just staring as his eyes snapped across the petite woman standing behind him.

It was the hair. Brock had always been good with details back in the day - you had to be if you were juggling reporting and trying to get the perfect photo at the same time - and the first thing he noted was her hair. Blond, short, almost a mullet (except it looked good on her somehow), and...two antenna things, sticking out in a way that defied gravity. He couldn't figure out how they stood up like that ( ... )

Eddie Brock! That was it. He was the guy that had offered to interview others during his spare time, which, she imagined he had plenty of, nowadays.

“Me?”

Having acquired so many names, she thought about which one to give him. XII, the Savage Nymph, Nobody, “Emily Aston”… Eventually, she figured that using her real one would make things easier for him.

“Larxene will do.”

She crossed her arms, and scanned the room once again.

“So… enjoying your stay here in good ol’ Landel’s?”

After that conversation, Rufus needed some time alone with his thoughts. Taking a quick look in the sunroom, he opted for the game room which seemed much less populated for now. He could catch up with Reno, Elena, and Dean on the Nightshift if he didn't now. At least that had been the pattern.

Dropping into a chair with far less grace than usual, Rufus stretched out. It wasn't as comfortable as the Sun Room's furniture, but it would serve. Roy's voice stayed in his head, too much like his own. Otacon's words rose up and fragmented before he'd let himself listen to them.

If he weren't crazy before entering Landel's (and thus being here for a reason) chances were that he would eventually he thought with a bitter smirk to himself. Maybe that was the plan all long. Rubbing his temples, Rufus closed his eyes for a moment.

Captain Jack was a little disappointed that lunch had ended so soon; he hadn't even gotten time to find out hot stuff's name. Though judging by the hairy look that he and Gin had gotten, it didn't bother him all that much. He just noted down silver-haired guy in his mental catalog of 'potential problems/people that I need to fuck with some day soon.'

The game room was about as exciting as he expected it it to be in a place like this.

He wasn't in the mood to crash a conversation, at least not yet. And really, none of the current ones he could eavesdrop on sounded that interesting. But there was a younger guy with blue hair (that was kind of interesting) and a blond guy without friends yet.

He flipped a mental coin. Guy with blue hair it was. He walked up to him, giving him his usual, friendly smile. "Anything interesting?" he asked.

The number of games hadn't really grown since Fayt had been here last, which was a little upsetting. For some reason he'd been hoping they'd get a new shipment, or at least bring up the quality of what was around. After all, as soon as he picked up one of the more "advanced" devices, he could tell that there had never been any real consideration given to it. Scratched screen, flimsy button, broken back, and those were just some of the things wrong with the poor electronic creature. And, geez, when he turned it around, there was even a spot where someone had gone over a name heavily with black marker ( ... )

Jack smiled apologetically. "Sorry, didn't mean to. I guess I'm just used to sneaking around." He shrugged. "Considering we're somewhere that they won't even give us real scissors, I'd be surprised if there were anything decent. Us inmates are just going to drool on it anyway," he joked.

"I'm Captain Jack Harkness," he said. "I got dropped in here last night, so I'm just trying to get around some." He gave Fayt one of his most charming smiles.

Fayt just waved off the apology. Really, it was his fault for being so preoccupied with checking for decent materials. .. Which, seeing how it's being repeated means it's doubly important, he was really hoping they would have gotten in. Not that it was too bad once he thought about it. Washu would probably be able to bring him something if he told her how bored he was, she seemed nice enough. She had enough disregard for routine to do it too ( ... )
