Night 48: Main Hallway, 1-Center

Mar 23, 2010 21:03

[From over here]

While the prospect of loitering in the hallway he had just passed was tempting (just what was the Keybearer and his friends up to?), X was officially timing himself out of lack of anything else to do. There was no one to speak with, nothing to look at, no cards in his possession, but Time would never abandon. She was always there ( Read more... )

[From here.]

And here they were. Unsurprisingly, there were a few other patients around. Some of them looked to already be in groups together, but there were also one or two who were apparently alone. Seeing how Zack hadn't gotten a description of the person they were meeting up with, he couldn't tell if they were late or early.

Pausing, he glanced over at Aidou questioningly. "Is he here yet?" he asked, voice low. It would be kind of awkward if he was asking about someone who was already there and said person heard him doing so, after all. Besides, depending on how long they'd possibly made their third member wait, there was a chance the guy was in a bad mood.

Mmmm. Aidou had considered the same question himself more than once--it all came back to the unknown artifacts he and Sasuke had collected. What were they for? What would come out of completing whatever crazy tasks lay behind the other doors? The answers to those questions were what he sought, among other things ( ... )

When Aidou paused, Zack did as well, turning back in the same direction as he took in the physical description of their third member. He didn't get too many details out of Aidou, but Zack knew it didn't matter too much since the kid already knew who they were looking for. He might as well be useful by acting as an extra pair of eyes, though ( ... )

“The second,” was the simple, though unfortunate answer. “Sasuke has a similar one, but in the shape of a sword. They were at the end of each trial.”

Baubles like in a video game, Aidou saw it. An obstacle course for Landel’s pleasure. But even the smallest chance that they--and what else remained to be revealed in the basement--could come to something was enough for the noble, as there was no room for loose ends in this prison they’d all found themselves in.

He did have an idea of the shield’s purpose, but since he couldn’t back it up, he kept quiet for now.

[[from here, the cavalry!]]Sasuke would have liked to say that he didn't flinch in the least when there came an abrupt scream and a rush of air passing him as he made his way towards the Sun Room, but it would have been a lie. His sword hand twitched into a defensive position out of sheer instinct and the Sharingan flared to life as he whipped his head around to watch ( ... )

Just as Zack had been preparing to either theorize about what the sword and shield might be for (something combat related, right?) or ask Aidou for some more information about the Sasuke guy, something else (two someones, actually) blew by them and completely derailed any train of thought he might have even potentially had ( ... )

The vampire was far less altruistic about the sudden commotion than Zack. He immediately retracted the shield, eyes narrowing once more. The two prisoners had put him on high alert, but the only thing that seemed to be wrong was the working of sheer idiocy.

He glared at the flash of the Sun Room he caught as they barreled through, before the presence of another drew the majority of his attention. On the bad side, a pair of morons were running around screaming, making themselves targets for themselves and everyone around them, but on the good side, Sasuke had arrived and found them seemingly without trouble. Aidou slipped the shield back into the pillowcase, the corners of his mouth drawn tight.

At least they could get going now.

Zack’s gesture was impossible to miss, and he eyed it with an air of speculation. However, the loss of his sight was Sasuke’s burden; Aidou hadn’t mentioned it for that fact. What he did say was, “This is Zack, the one I mentioned.”

Realising that the two shouting patients had broken into the Sun Room, Sasuke took a moment to wonder about the conclusion of that screaming chase. It seemed relevant, given that they were going in the same direction -- but then again, given the faint strains of further shouting and what sounded like something breaking, maybe they'd knock each other out before navigating the room became a pain. Sasuke turned his attention to the two in front of him and hoped to hear eventual silence from the Sun Room ( ... )

The lack of handshaking was a slight downer, but it wasn't enough to crush Zack's opinion of the kid. He looked around Aidou's age, maybe slightly younger, but he was hardly scrawny. If Sasuke was the one who Aidou had made so much progress with, then chances were that he was more than capable. The fake sword he was holding seemed to be proof of that, even if the matching items didn't appear to have much point yet.

It was a puzzle, though, right? This kind of stuff could be a headache, but it had sounded like Aidou mainly wanted him for grunt work. Which was insulting, but he'd been let in on a lot of information thus far, so he couldn't say it wasn't worth it ( ... )
