Day 48: Cafeteria (Breakfast)

Luckily for Mele, the night had ended before Tenzen had changed his mind and deemed Mele appropriate for target practice. Even if the situation of who was mocking who had seemed to change into the Iga ninja's favor. Despite her behavior, perhaps the insolent woman could serve some sort of use nonetheless. Tyki didn't get any smokes tonight, but it looked like Cheating Boy A was back. Walker definitely wasn't going to escape that easily anymore, though. Third time's the charm. Next time, the kid was only going to leave as a corpse.

Anyway, it looked like daytime had already arrived. His Noah had gone back into being dormant, leaving his more human self to take the wheel. He shoved the familiar pair of thick glasses back on his nose before the nurse collected him for breakfast. Tyki had no particular objections; thanks to sleeping through yesterday, he was pretty much starving!

Helping himself to some pancakes, the now-hobo picked a random seat and dumped his plate on the table.

Luke.

The moment Cloud woke up, his eyes snapped open and he sat up quickly in bed. There was already a nurse with him, almost as if she had expected this reaction. He felt comforting hands on his shoulder and made a half-hearted attempted at batting them away. His eyes strayed across to his roommate's bed, and upon seeing it empty his stomach twisted itself tightly into a knot. Immediately, the blond hopped out of bed, ready to throw questions at his nurse even though he knew they wouldn't be answered --

"Alfred. Alfred. Everything's fine, hon. Your friend already went on to breakfast."

What? Cloud glanced toward the bed again, realizing just now that the sheets had been tossed to the side as if someone had been laying in them not long before. It had been recently occupied. Luke had been there. He was all right. With a sigh of relief, he let himself be led out of the room as well with no more fuss ( ... )

Eating pancakes by yourself could only be entertaining for so long, but it was practically a matter of time before a nurse would decide to drag someone over. Unlike some of those unsocial types, Tyki didn't particularly mind any company.

This morning, it turned out to be some blond with spiky hair that seemed to be defying the laws of gravity. Well, Spiky could at least say 'hello'.

"Mornin'," he answered back with a grin before taking another bite from his breakfast

((Man, I'm so sorry I've been slow. T_T))

Fortunately, it appeared that he'd sat down across from someone who hadn't been put through something terrible the night before. Or rather, if he had he wasn't letting it show. A friendly face was always a welcome thing, especially in a hellhole like this. Pleasant conversation could go a long way toward getting him prepared to face the rest of the day. His friends were okay, Luke wasn't brainwashed anymore. He could do this.

Breakfast didn't look half bad, either. In fact, he decided he'd just join his tablemate in partaking. "Name's Cloud Strife." He introduced himself before taking a bite, as it was the polite thing to do. "The night was survivable on your end, I guess?"

That- that was just about enough. No, it was more than enough. Bad enough to wake up who knew where, with no locket and no idea how she'd got here... and for them to do the same to innocents like Ema who couldn't defend themselves even from a rat... but now they were, Agatha considered, being especially patronizing.

And they were going to send a minion to move her around again. She'd put up with it yesterday, while she was still getting her bearings, but now that she had a better idea what was going on, she had no intention of letting them get away with that. Even Aaronev had had the decency to show up in person!

So as soon as she woke up, Agatha took a position behind the doorframe. Someone was going to regret taking her.

Having been assigned to pick up one of the female patients for breakfast this morning, the nurse happily headed for room that was noted down on her clipboard and then stepped inside after unlocking it.

Except that as she walked in, it looked as if the girl she was supposed to collect had already left. Had there been some sort of mix up? Her roommate was still sleeping soundly, but...

The nurse tilted her head and sighed. Things like this didn't usually go wrong. Should she just take Miss Franklin instead?

Oh, this was just too easy. Agatha hadn't picked up something for a weapon, figuring that if she wanted to get something out of the nurse it was best if she wasn't knocked out, and hopefully she'd been right about it not being necessary.

And with that thought, she struck out, kicking at the nurse's legs to take them out from under her.

Having a leg suddenly appear out of nowhere to trip her up was more or less the last thing the nurse would have expected. Letting out a loud gasp (though she tried to restrain herself so as to not wake up the other girl), the woman stumbled forward, her hands flailing until she grabbed onto one of the desk chairs to steady herself.

Once she'd caught her breath, the nurse turned herself around to see Miss Clay standing behind the door. Had she... done that on purpose?

The nurse knew better to get mad, though. "Good morning," she said instead as she slowly straightened and removed her hands from the chair. "Are you ready to go to breakfast?"

While familiarity could be considered a blessing in some instances, it was anything but at this point in time. However, frustration just wasn't part of his daily routine, so Axel took it in stride all the same. Could it be worse? Yeah. Could it be better? Most definitely.

That was good and all, but did he manage to get anything done last night? There wasn't much to remember, which probably meant that there was nothing to remember. He didn't even get the chance to talk about much to Roxas, which was technically fine considering, but the blond was never really the most patient guy out there. The last thing he needed was to be accused of avoiding the inevitable, though he had to admit he'd gotten pretty good at eluding it for a while ( ... )

It figured that by this point, Sora was used to the sudden arrival of morning. It wasn't common for him to wake up gasping anymore, but in this case that was exactly what he did. As if he was waking up from a terrible nightmare, the boy shot up in bed and clutched his sheets in his hands, breathing hard a few times before realizing that it was no longer nighttime.

"Kairi," he said under his breath, repeating the name as if that would somehow make what had happened better. Sora still didn't know what had caused his friend to go into that frenzy, but he hoped that it wasn't going to become a routine thing. That fact was that he felt terrible for agreeing to leave the girl alone, even if she'd been the one to request it. No, Riku had been right; they should never leave her by herself ( ... )

Axel had been somewhat preoccupied with his food, casually cutting into his second pancake by the time someone called out to him. The Nobody raised his head, recognizing that voice immediately, but after everything he'd witnessed he couldn't really fork over any more surprise for the brunet. It wasn't Sora's fault; after all, it was hard to top something like discovering his best friend was no longer trapped in his Other's body ( ... )

"Huh?" Sora blurted it out before he could really think it through, but the fact was that he was somewhat bewildered. After Axel had been gone for so long, why was he the one acting like he'd been waiting? Then again, Axel was just like that. It was hard to know just from what he'd said whether the Nobody had his memories of this place or not, but it looked like it was time to sit down.

The boy moved over to the table and set down his tray. He took his seat and then looked across the table at Axel. He wasn't exactly staring, but it was always kind of weird to have someone here again when they'd been missing for so long.

"Well, I thought that you were gone for good," he said, though there was nothing malicious in his tone. It was just the truth. The existence of Nobodies was pretty shaky, so... it hadn't been that hard to assume that Axel had faded away all over again. In a way, Sora was glad that that wasn't the case. Axel and Roxas were friends, so if Roxas was here, then it was a good thing that Axel was too ( ... )

For the second day in a row, Battler found himself waking up with absolutely no remembrance of going to sleep. The first time, it had been a vague feeling that wasn't hard to dismiss, but doing it a second time, remembering having a conversation just seconds earlier, was decidedly strange. Wait, if he was waking up from it, did that make it some kind of crazy dream ( ... )

It was so strange being underground one moment, facing a giant mythical creature, and then waking up the next morning and being tucked into one's bed, a bandage wrapped around one's forehead. Rika would have thought it was a dream if not for the smell of gauze and antiseptic too close to her nose for comfort. Her head still hurt, in fact, and she had to ask her nurse for something to make it feel a little less painful before she could eat something.

At least she had a sympathetic - Rika wouldn't go so far as to say 'nice', but sympathetic - nurse that morning. One dose of medication later and she was being ushered through the cafeteria line. She was a touch more wobbly on her feet than usual, but she could manage.

Once they got to the cafeteria, Rika filled her tray and set out to find a familiar face or two. She settled on one almost immediately, waved, and set her tray down. "Good morning. Is this seat taken?"

Were Erika not the first rate detective she claimed to be, she would have been surprised, scared, and probably disoriented at waking up in her room, on the first floor, with no memory of how she moved from her location to the second floor. In fact, the last thing she remembered was observing a battle and having a pleasant conversation with Xemnas, and the next thing she knew... The detective sat up in the bed, rolling her sleeves back to examine her arms. She then followed suit, undressing herself and examining whatever part of her body she could see before dressing herself in the appropriate vestments, pulling on the gray uniform once she examined herself to her satisfaction ( ... )

"Oh, if it isn't Rika-chan! Of course, you're free to sit here," Battler grinned. "I'd been meaning to talk to you, actually." Their first conversation had been almost surreal in the parallels, and it was hard not to be curious about. If the situations were as similar as they sounded, it could be said that it might not be something that shouldn't be picked at, but rather left alone so that the wounds could heal over. It was something that registered logically and out of a sense of courtesy, but when it came down to it, human curiosity was a destructive and self-serving force, so the questions were difficult to swallow down ( ... )

S-Sechs, no-!The words tore themselves, silent, from Kibitoshin's lips, and the next thing he knew he was sitting bolt upright in his bed again and shaking all over. But that axe hadn't been a dream, and neither had that look in Sechs' eyes. He'd really meant it as he swung the axe aloft, and if the night hadn't ended when it had ( ... )

So if people who weren't Sakura thought that having roaming paramedics was a good idea, they couldn't all just be humoring him. Right? That would just be weird. At the same time, though, it left Hanatarou uncertain whether to be pleased that he'd come up with a good idea or worried that now people would expect him to tell them what to do. That probably wouldn't be a very good idea at all.

He allowed the nurse to lead him through the line to get food, only vaguely aware of how she prodded him through the process with patience born of experience with his tendency to be distracted, not really paying attention to what she put on his tray. None of it was what he really wanted for breakfast anyway, so it didn't matter that much. What did matter, though, was how he set his tray down only to glance up and realize she'd led him to sit with a stranger. Again ( ... )

Kibitoshin was just starting on his second (completely medicinal) pancake when he was joined by someone else- a boy trailing after his nurse, younger than him with dark hair and a hesitant expression. The Kaioshin perked up immediately. If someone wanted to sit next to him, he couldn't have looked that far gone! Even if the newcomer's nurse had pushed him into it. And even if he didn't exactly look one hundred percent certain about it.

... ahah... oh well. He'd just have to put his best foot forward and pray he didn't trip over it.

"Oh, no, go ahead!" Kibitoshin answered brightly, doing his best to match his smile to his tone so that he seemed as welcoming and polite as possible, and not in any way, shape or form crazy. How difficult could that be? "I'm Kibitoshin. It's a pleasure to meet you!"

Well. At least this stranger didn't seem annoyed about having company, so Hanatarou managed a friendly, if rather shy, smile in greeting as he lowered himself into the seat. His attention shifted briefly to his tray, and he wondered again at the tendency toward sweet food at breakfast. It was like everything was backwards and people liked to eat dessert in the mornings or something.

At the introduction he hesitated, though, then glanced up with a puzzled frown. "Kibitoshin...?" he echoed, then hesitantly added, "Um, from the...the bulletin? The healer?"
