Night 47: M31-M40 Hallway

Feb 11, 2010 01:25

You weren't so quick to gloat last night, asshole, Mello silently retorted as he listened to the announcement. He was in more of a hurry tonight than last, wanting to meet up with Teresa and get what they could from the doctor's computer, and still have time left over to get outside. He grabbed the pipe from its hiding place and pulled on his boots ( Read more... )

The walk was fast, as Kratos had expected, and now he found himself in front of a familiar door. This time, however, there would be no clinic to greet him; Raine had moved whatever was left of it into the chapel and Tamaki had since disappeared. It had only been a few days too since he had last come by this room - and yet it felt like an eternity.

Pointing his flashlight down to the ground, Kratos knocked twice on the door and waited for Ritsuka to respond.

It still felt strange to have his ears back. It shouldn't have, but after living a month without them, he'd grown accustomed to their absence. Now that they were back, it felt...weird. Like regrowing a limb after an amputation. And he still didn't know what to do with his tail, but he'd been able to rearrange it a little after Nataku left so it didn't hurt anymore. He'd need scissors later so he could cut holes in his clothes or something.

When the knock came, Ritsuka slid off his bed and opened the door. He'd been expecting one of two people, and he was right in thinking Kratos would be the first to arrive. Opening the door a little wider and motioned for Kratos to come inside. "I have the things you were looking for in the closet. Come on in."

Kratos's eyes widened briefly when Ritsuka answered the door--were those actually cat ears gracing the boy's head?--but that was all for his reaction as his face quickly slid back into its usual neutral expression. "I see."

The swordsman stepped inside the room, wondering if Ritsuka would retrieve the supplies out of his closet or if he should get them himself. "I'm sorry I took so long in coming."

He saw the widened eyes, but Ritsuka didn't try to explain. Unless Kratos wanted to ask, he didn't want to make a big deal about it. Maybe it was a big deal, but that didn't mean Ritsuka had to attract attention to it. This was how he was supposed to look after all. Sort of ( ... )

Their rooms were close enough that it was only the matter of a moment before Yue was standing outside Touya's door, wings close-furled against his back and expression set. It was early enough in the night that both Touya and his roommate (did he have a roommate?) were probably still there. Hopefully they hadn't crossed in the dark hallway on his way here.

The hallway had been even darker tonight, as Yue had discovered only a short distance from his room that his flashlight was...having problems. The beam was dimmer than usual, and had even flickered and died for a moment at one point. That probably wasn't a good thing, given that he didn't have any more batteries to use.

Not that it really mattered, though, not when Touya should have his flashlight. The guardian realized he was delaying the moment when he had to knock on the door, frowned, and lifted a hand to rap sharply before he could hesitate any longer.

When the lights went out, Remy, who had been silent and withdrawn at dinner, quickly retrieved his box-cutter and flashlight. He hesitated a moment before deciding to leave the little radio where it was, because the jerk who was supposed to be responsible for all of this seemed to want them to listen to it. Just at the moment, Remy didn't feel like following any of the Head Doctor's suggestions.

The Cake Club sounded like it would be fun, and while he was meeting with those people, he'd ask about whether or not the radio was important. He wouldn't have too far to walk, either: just down a few halls close to his room. Too many of his conversations that day had been with friends who had gotten hurt. Even if they were going to be all right in the long run, he still appreciated having a bright spot to look forward to.

As he approached the door, to leave, there was a knock on it. He opened it and slipped into the hall, giving the guy who waited there -- Touya's friend, he guessed -- a sheepish smile.

After a quiet dinner, Touya was packing up his things to go see Yuki again. Touya was worried about him, and the silence hadn't improved his nerves at all. Even if he was trying to remain calm, Touya was walking around the room, twitchily, walking in one direction then the other. As though he was deciding to pick something up then changing his mind for something else.

Finally, he had gathered his things. And after he'd calmed down and realized that he was going to see Yuki and maybe make him feel better about the whole situation with Fai. Taking a few deep breaths, he relaxed his shoulders and prepared himself. Maybe it was lame to think that a kiss or two could fix them up nicely, but it was what was on his mind.

...Until Remy left the room without greeting whoever had knocked. Which only meant that Yuki was here, right?

Wrong. Touya looked out, things in hand, and saw Yue. Which... probably meant...

"You, uh... want to come in? I thought I was coming to get you."

The appearance and quick, wordless departure of Touya's roommate left Yue frowning down the hallway after the young man for a moment. He'd known that there was a new roommate, but had never actually met the person before -- and it didn't seem as though he was going to get the opportunity tonight. Not that he particularly cared to pretend to be friendly, as evidenced by his quick departure from his own room earlier, a fact which again reminded him that Ken had disappeared.

He glanced back toward Touya as the young man spoke up, his wings shifting slightly in unconscious reaction. "We are going to meet Sakura, are we not?" he inquired, voice entirely neutral as usual. "If so, there's no reason to delay."

There was certainly no reason for them to pause and allow Touya and Yukito to...renew their acquaintance. Especially not when that might include some of the same from the night before. One time had been enough for that, he felt, even if there was a hint of disappointment from Yukito at that thought.

When the door unlocked, Battler lingered behind for a moment, not yet given the chance to really look around. Between his desk and his drawers, he didn't find anything particular useful or interesting. Maybe the two keys, but as he had nothing worth locking up, those were kept in their spot ( ... )

The immediacy of the sudden Darkness hit him. One moment, he had been resting on his bed, and the next, there was a sudden twisting in his stomach, reminding him of his awareness of his surroundings. Even if he couldn't put his finger on it, it was obvious: this place was crawling in it. Riku knew it could be stronger, more consistent, but he had a feeling that his senses were dulled, too. Shifting from the earlier hours of the day, when the lights shone brightly like nothing was wrong, to this different feeling was remarkable for him. While his roommate took off, he found himself dealing with the sudden awareness of what this place was really like ( ... )

Though Mihai was certain that the other side of the room looked used, no other nurse had come, and no other patient had appeared during dinner. So, left to his own devices, the man ate, then searched for anything that might be of use. Unfortunately that amounted to little indeed: a flashlight, a bunch of pens, and a pillowcase should there be something more beneficial to be found in the halls. Really, he'd think they'd at least provide someone of his age with a cane. Not that he needed it to walk, but such an instrument could prove quite advantages when faced with something best walloped over the head repeatedly. At least until it broke. Ah, they just didn't make canes like they used to ( ... )

This was... this was bad. Roland barely paid attention to the intercom, didn't even understand the words that were being said. He was hungry, ravenously hungry, and time was rapidly running out. If he didn't get something to eat, quickly, he wouldn't last the night. It was as certain as the promise of a sunrise- and even more vitally important, at least in the life of Roland ( ... )
