If there was one thing he did regret, though, it was that he was leaving the Scarecrow in a lurch. All the rush and panic of last night, and he was happy to leave him alone while he went to kick up scrap in the basement.
There wasn’t time for regrets anymore, he knew that. But no matter how many ways he tried to justify it to himself, it still left a bad taste in his mouth.

All quiet, all empty. This early on in the night it was difficult to say how many people were already up and moving around the Institute. A curious thought: over two hundred prisoners would soon be scurrying around in the dark of the building, speaking in hushed, careful voices and flickering yellow flashlight beams into corners in search of creatures beyond comprehension, gathering tools and weapons and supplies enough to last as long as they were still breathing. A fearful collective. It was a marvel that no one had snapped from the pressure yet.
Lunge moved on.

Things weren't getting any less creepy, going out toward the larger halls. In fact, if anything, it was worse. The big empty space echoed even the sound of slippered footsteps, and there was no way to move the flashlight around fast enough to really see what was going on around him.
Also, he was cold. Shivering a little, Tylor wrapped his arms around himself, sure now. Whatever the Cake Club was, it wasn't alone in a hallway or room, he hoped. And better, looking for another room meant staying to the smaller, safer-feeling patient hallways, feeling less exposed.
He wondered what the poor nurses and doctors did this time of day. That had to be a really uncomfortable job, if they had any real idea about it. Still tiptoeing, despite the fact that it didn't really make him any quieter, Tylor headed up the neighboring patient hall.

Even if they had moved his room, the routine of having to walk through a bothersome string of hallways remained the same. Tyki never really liked that part of the night, and probably never would.
This place was as quiet as it always was, or at least as quiet as the block his room had been in previously. The Noah had no clue where this new room was compared to the old one, but he guessed he should find out soon enough.
He might have wanted to check that dust-collecting map he had lying around somewhere. Huh.

Carter referred to the little sketched diagram SWM 29 had drawn for him. It reminded him of a diagram of a hotel with all the little boxes next to each other, which reinforced the luxury of the institute. They even got dinner sent straight to their rooms. Carter couldn't get that kind of service even when he paid for it.
