Shinji picked at his dinner, feeling a bit listless. Aside from his conversation with Kaworu during the second shift, everything had seemed to blur together today. Funny. The only bright spot in his life was the boy he'd had to kill. Or at least he thought he'd had to. Despite the reassurances, he sometimes wondered which was the dream and which was the reality. At times he wished he was back in Tokyo-3. At others he felt as if staying here for a while would be nice. The night shifts were the worst to him.

Really, the only thing he wished he had was his SDAT. He just wanted his music. Maybe he should ask one of the nurses tomorrow if he can have it. He's been well-behaved, hasn't he? They'll probably say yes. He hopes.

When the nurse opened the door and nudged Obito into the bedroom, he still felt completely vacant. He'd spent the previous shift doing little but lying on a sofa and watching patients passing by, paying only minimal attention to the black and white cat that nuzzled against his arm until he lifted it enough to allow the cat to tuck itself beneath it. Some animals sensed that sort of thing, when people needed comfort. Rarely cats, but it wasn't unheard of ( ... )

Gah, sorry for delay. sdatislife February 10 2010, 00:51:53 UTC
Shinji glanced up, blinking. He hadn't seen much of his erstwhile roommate. He'd been asleep last night at dinner, so this was the first time he was really meeting him. He stood awkwardly and tried to bow politely before he sat again, picking his utensil and poking at his food a bit more. He chewed unenthusiastically on a mouthful of noodles and swallowed before he replied.

"Ah... I'm... Shinji. Shinji Ikari. Nice to meet you..." he replied, glancing down at Obito's plate - no eye contact yet.

"T-that's fine... I'm not very hungry either."

Although he probably should eat if he intended to head out of his room tonight.

No delay! Sorry for his emo. itsdustdammit February 10 2010, 01:59:14 UTC
Obito saw Shinji from the corner of his eye and realized that he should probably make some polite gesture too, but he wasn't sure what to do and he was already sitting down. He gave a small nod, something maybe bow-like, but didn't look up ( ... )

Between Sora's friend and the crazy girly guy on the field, followed by Leonard's memory problems, it'd been a pretty long day. At least he got the stuff for Mr. H and Sheena even managed to dig up a pin. He had to admit, he was kind of excited to see what kind of pins the old barista could come up with using the supplies he'd gotten a hold of.

Even the food once he got back to his room wasn't so bad. Spaghetti was decent and the ice cream stuff wasn't quite soft serve, but it was a lot better on taste. He took a few bites all around before he started on the spaghetti.

Dinner was blessedly vegetarian, or at least appeared to be so. Missing most of lunch was bad enough, missing dinner would probably have left him too weak to wander. And he did need to wander, tonight--he needed to find that laboratory, or barring that the legendary third story. If he couldn't stop Landel's minions, he could at least find out where they'd been taking the prisoners for "studies".

Abe took up his breadstick and began nibbling thoughtfully on the end of it as he contemplated the spaghetti. It seemed a vastly inconvenient way to shape food, when a set of simple squares covered in sauce would be far easier. Carefully, he planted his fork inside the mass of noodles and began to twist, as he'd seen on the television.

The nurse led L to a room next to the one he was expecting. "You've been moved, Daniel; your dinner is already waiting for you," she explained, all matter-of-fact cheerfulness. "I'm sure you and Langdon will have a lot to talk about ( ... )

When Marcus wasn't there when Abe arrived, Abe assumed the nurses were late in returning him. The door opened again and Abe raised one hand in a polite wave, only to drop it again as a small, dark-haired man was ushered into the room instead. Not Marcus--couldn't be farther from Marcus without changing his gender or species. Abe stared at him curiously as his fingers fed him pieces of salad ( ... )

L shrugged, looking mystified: it was clear that his new roommate was as nonplussed by the situation as he was, although perhaps not as displeased. "A bit of an aura"? What's that supposed to mean?, he wondered. Does he mean it figuratively, or is he one of the people here who could benefit from time in a psychiatric hospital?"I do not know anyone named Marcus. I was in the room next to this one until now." He was speaking around his latest bite of ice cream, which he swallowed. "My roommates seem to have a habit of disappearing, Abe ( ... )

It wasn't the first time the nurses had saved him from an awkward conversation and likely wouldn't be the last. As the nurse walked him back to his room, he realized he'd be jumping out of one and right into another. Allie had been there the other night, hadn't he? It wasn't just his imagination. Allie would want to know where he'd been, why he was alright and even if he did end up telling the truth, he didn't know the answer.

He walked into the familiar room, nodding to his nurse that he'd be fine once she gave him a few painkillers and reminded him to eat all of his dinner. In the end, he did take a few bites, mostly out of necessity. The painkillers could make for some awful nausea if not taken with food and his body knew he needed it, even if he was a bit more hesitant.

The doctor's appointment left him feeling more than a little drained and tired. Why did they think that Hallelujah needed to go? Admittedly, there had been a few times when he'd hated Hallelujah, hated himself because they were one person, when he'd even feared Hallelujah, but he couldn't imagine life as one whole being, without Hallelujah there. The idea was impossibly terrifying for him.

Why are you even thinking about this?

Good question. It kept him from thinking about going back to his room and finding some new person there. He didn't want a new roommate. He liked Fai, he'd got on with Fai and he trusted him to a certain extent. And he'd...

He entered the room, not even bothering to look at the other bed at first as he went to sit down. It was only when the food was in front of him that he glanced across.

And stared.

This was... it was impossible! He'd seen Fai die! "Fai?"

Sure enough, it wasn't nearly long enough before the door swung open and his roommate stepped in. In all honesty, he was glad it was still the same person sharing his room, but at the same time, he hoped Allie wouldn't be as upset with him as the others had been. It wasn't as if he'd made the decision knowing he'd be alive again the next day.

"Allie," he replied, offering the younger man a friendly smile and an easy wave of his fingers.

"I was worried you'd have up and found a new roommate by now."

It was like cold water had been thrown over him, the shock at seeing Fai there and alive and whole again, like that night had never happened. Like he'd never died. Perhaps it shouldn't have been such a surprise; he'd seen Lockon brought back after all, but that was different to seeing someone die within the walls of this place and then brought back.

"You're really here?" he said, moving to slump on his bed, eyes never leaving Fai's face.
