Night 46: M61-70 Hallway

Jan 03, 2010 02:52

Prowl listened to the radio, the door and the halls outside. It seemed the night had officially begun. Now...he had to wait. Just a while so that Lockdown wouldn't realise how close they were. Prowl had to be prepared for failure, even if he didn't want to consider it. Lockdown could overpower him or escape and Prowl would have to face him again. ( Read more... )

It was time. Prowl would be arriving soon. If he didn't decide to ditch, that is. Lockdown would just track him down if the ninjabot tried to run. There was also the matter of Prowl probably wanting to hurt him. If that happened, Lockdown would have to overpower him, probably tie him up and go off by himself.

Lockdown got prepared, getting his axe and knife, and stood near the door, red eyes fixed on the dark hallway. He also gave HK a quick glance and said, "Have fun tonight, kiddo. Try not to die."

HK grabbed his own armaments, heading out the door. "Statement: Both are very high on my list of priorities." He scanned the hall for any infrared signatures, detecting none. "Advisory: Try not to get killed by your new toy." He set off. If Lockdown had any undue injuries by tomorrow, HK reserved the right to laugh at him.

Once Prowl felt he had waited long enough he stood up and took a deep breath. It felt good. All this human business felt good. Weaker and more complicated, stiffer and awkward. But good.

He was going to miss it if this didn't work.

Once he had bid farewell to his roommate he set out, stick hanging loosely by his side, wondering if he shouldn't just shadow Ratchet. But where would he begin to look for the old bot?

His thoughts snapped back to reality as he saw Lockdown in the doorway, ready and waiting. The stick came up without a second thought and Prowl leaped at Lockdown, aiming the point at his gut.

Lockdown was quick to react, grabbing the stick and Prowl's hand, quickly pivoting so Prowl was pinned against the wall. He'd half-expected that. Luckily this meatbag body hadn't robbed him of all his reflexes.

"Nice try, kid," Lockdown growled into Prowl's audio. "I'd settle down and behave if I were you. Unless you want me to tie you to my bed and go off without ya'."

Ugh. The uncouth sound of the Head Lunatic eating while speaking over the intercom. Those vile, juicy smacking noises interspersed by his equally gluttonous words rang out so loud that he might as well have been chewing right in von Karma's ear. Disgusting. Fortunately, the prosecutor had already finished his dinner a short while earlier; he would have otherwise been too nauseated to do so. What a shame that would have been, as the evening meals seemed to be the only ones worth consuming in this hellhole.

von Karma was relieved when a female (one of the nurses -- or perhaps that sadistic doctor from the other night?) interrupted Landel's unabashed display of hedonism. Though he couldn't make out what she said, he could tell that it perturbed the administrator. Hah! Serves you right, Martin Landel, von Karma couldn't help sneering to himself; the accursed man had imposed more cruel and unusual punishments upon him than perhaps all of his own convicts had undergone altogether ( ... )

In the end, his vanity prevailed. Even were this a bribe from the Head Lunatic himself, it was still far more presentable than the hideous gray uniforms sporting the garish yellow "happy face" symbols. Besides, Edgeworth had his own outfit back; why should the boy, of all people, get to prance around the Institute in his court finery while von Karma still had nothing to wear at night but the degrading hospital clothing?!

After donning the familiar court attire (how bare his neck had felt for so long!), von Karma put on the large overcoat and placed the items he had set aside on the desk into the pockets, adding the hammer, the screwdriver, the pair of gloves, and one of the trash bags. Though highly inelegant, the last of these items might prove useful for carrying any excess items as necessary. Satisfied that he had taken everything he might need, he closed the closet, turned the flashlight back on, stepped out into the hallway, and locked the door behind him.

Ratchet was used to coming out of recharge nearly instantaneously, a habit built up over the long stellar cycles of the war when he was constantly on call and nearly constantly in danger. Waking up gradually, all slow and groggy, felt strange. It felt as though something were wrong with him. Which there absolutely was.

"Slag." He couldn't get much anger behind the word--mostly he just didn't know what else to say. He couldn't recall dozing off, and the cold dinner plate on the desk suggested the sim hadn't reset again (if this even was a sim, but he wasn't going to think too hard about that right now). He hadn't been awake long enough to need to recharge that badly, had he ( ... )

It was pitch black when Kirk peeked outside his room, although thankfully not quite silent. He still remembered a little too vividly the first night he'd awakened here, looking into room after empty room until he'd heard Chekov's voice. He flexed his hands, feeling uncomfortably unarmed, but his flashlight had been dumped outside and his phaser was still sitting on the Enterprise, so he'd have to make do without. (His coat was similarly missing, and no doubt irretrievable. If they ever met William Shatner again, Kirk was going to punch him.)

As Kirk waited for his eyes to adjust to the darkness, a door opened further up the hall, and the beam of a flashlight shone out, followed by another prisoner. Kirk drew back into his room.

Once the light had passed their room, he bid ZEX good luck, and stepped out into the darkness to follow.

After Kirk left, ZEX waited.

And waited.

And waited.

It was gradually becoming clear that Sechs was not going to make an appearance. What could be keeping him? Surely he hadn't forgotten... and perhaps he'd run into some trouble on the way here-

At that thought, ZEX thought of his own imprisonment two nights ago, and how no one had come to his aid. If Sechs had likewise been kidnapped, that would certainly explain his absence. And even if they had just met, Sechs had a right to have someone come look for him.

ZEX changed into his uniform, careful of the wound on his head, took a deep breath, and stepped out into the darkness.

Armed with a flashlight in one hand and her aluminum baseball bat in the other, Kagura made her way to Ritsu's room next. She still wasn't sure exactly why Alita requested she bring her cup with her, but she'd managed to tuck it into her pocket without too much fuss. Glancing up and down the hallway, she knocked lightly on the door, hoping Ritsu would be ready.

"Ritchan? It's Kagura. Are you there?"

Ritsu jumped nearly a foot off his bed at the gentle knock, staring at the door as though he expected all sorts of frightening entities to pour through it at any moment. He sighed softly as he heard his cousin's familiar voice, the soft ring of it nearly bringing tears to his eyes. The few minutes he had been waiting, by himself, had felt like hours, leaving the him more tense and jumpy than usual, if that was even possible. He knew he deserved the wait and more, that the fact that she was even willing to come for him was more than this unworthy Ritsu should expect, and yet he couldn't help but be happy that she was finally here.

He stumbled over to the door, opening it delicately and peering out at his cousin. "K-kagura-san! I...I..." he trailed off, not sure how to express his relief at seeing her without seeming rude or inappropriate. He looked down tearily, wringing his hands yet again, before glancing back up at her, trying to look resolved. "I-I'm ready to...to go."

It took a few moments before Ritsu actually opened the door, but he didn't seem any worse for his time spent waiting. She took a step back to allow him room to leave, but wanted to make sure they had everything they needed first.

"Ah- actually, the people we're visiting tonight asked if we could bring our own cups. I'm not sure what it's for, probably a game," she explained, feeling somewhat odd about asking. "But if you don't mind picking up your cup from dinner and taking it along, I'm sure they'd appreciate it. Ah- And if you don't have your flashlight yet, you'll want to bring that with you for sure."

Ritsu looked down at his empty hands - he hadn't thought to bring anything, and hadn't even looked through what was available in his room...he didn't even know he had a flashlight. The night had barely begun, and he was already proving himself more useless than he had originally imagined...

"Ah! O-of course, one moment, Kagura-san!" He turned away with a poorly concealed sniffle of shame, scurrying back into the room and collecting the afformentioned items. The cup was easy enough to locate, but the flashlight took more work...Ritsu hadn't explored his room, and so spent several minutes shuffling clumsily through the wardrobe and drawers of his desk, an occassional yelp or loud bang emanating from the room before he returned. He looked even more flustered, his hair mussed and his breath coming rather quickly, smile shaky as he tried, and failed, to hide how he felt.

"Ah...I um..I found them." He held them up demonstratively. "Sh-shall...shall we go?"

Mori had been quiet during dinner if only because he'd been thinking. Tamaki was gone which meant the St. Francis Aide Society was likely changing hands or had gone defunct. The Twins were gone, which dropped Mitsukuni's club down a significant amount. And while he and his cousin tried to get around the Institute, they were rapidly losing ground on the whole 'escape' thing. On top of that, something seemed to have gone wrong with the Head Doctor, too. Mori didn't mind things going wrong for him so much, but he had a bad feeling that when things didn't go as the Doctor wanted, things would go poorly for the patients, too.

Getting up from his seat, Mori grabbed the closet rod from its hiding place and rested it against his shoulder. Then he picked up the piece of chocolate cake from dinner and headed out the door, down the hall. Tonight had a good dessert, one that Mitsukuni would really enjoy, so Mori had to make sure to take it to him.
