Nightshift 22: Stairs Near the M Block and Cafeteria

(from hereYes, Jack was starting to think that this guy was a bit shifty. It wasn't the smile, so much as the fact that he was being more evasive than Jack. Which, as far as Jack had experienced, was quite an accomplishment ( Read more... )

Gin felt more than a little nervous as they entered new territory armed only with flashlights and a handful of pens from his room. If he had Shinso around, it would be a lot less unnerving. It didn't help that Jack was smiling as much as he was. And he got the feeling Jack's was a little more genuine ( ... )

Jack laughed softly, "Well, my roommate said something about a creature with laser swords, if you find that believable." He decided not to opine that he did find it reasonable. "All sorts of vague things that sound terribly pleasant."

He shone his light briefly on the wall. "A little dirty to be a hospital, isn't it," he remarked. "Makes me worry about dinner, now."

Laser swords? He wasn't quite sure what that would look like, given he wasn't terribly familiar with the term 'laser,' but he was fairly certain one could possibly exist as far as Zanpakutou went. Vague, unpleasant things tended to go with the territory of being a shinigami, and despite his recent defect it sounded like he wasn't going to get away from them so easily.

"Stranger things've happened," Gin replied. He glanced at the wall as Jack shone his light upon it. Had it really looked that dirty earlier? "Don't worry too much, it was much better n' breakfast."

He was lucky - most things were exactly as they had been the first night. The hallways hadn't changed, so Chase suspected that it was merely the inhabitants and objects within the hospital that altered themselves, and not the actual hospital itself. Which meant that there had to be a source, somewhere, hidden away from them all.

Probably with the Head Doctor.

With a sneer, Chase moved up the stairs, hearing the faint telltale sounds of someone else being near his goal.

Getting to the stairs had been easy - it was a short trip after all. Ritsuka could hear people scuffling about in the Sun Room and further on down the hallway, but the darkness kept him from seeing anyone. He didn't want to turn on his flashlight for fear that it might attract something, and while he hadn't seen anything yet, he was certain that wouldn't last for long.

Still, at least Seimei was with him. Squeezing his brother's hand once, he started up the stairs and hoped nothing was lurking in the shadows to get them.

Seimei turned on his flashlight, shone it around them. "We might be spotted like this, but it seems to me that these creatures already have preternatural senses, so we may as well use every advantage we have."

He kept a hold of Ritsuka's hand as they ascended the staircase, watchful.

"So it doesn't matter, huh?" That was good to know. Ritsuka moved quickly up the staircase. From above he could hear other voices and what sounded like inhuman garbled screaming. A fight, perhaps?

Ritsuka moved quickly, keeping close to his brother's side.

Zabuza found the stairs that Haku had spoken about. At least he hoped they were the right stairs. Either way they were stairs and stairs meant up and up meant more danger.

That's all the older shinobi wanted.

He glanced behind him despite the fact that he didn't really need to. He heard Haku behind him. It was still reassuring to see him there.

Fox paused momentarily at the stairs to take a look around before cautiously moving up them, sword in hand, this was where he had been ambushed last night, but one of the cats.

There was something that was soothing about moving, having a purpose... he wasn't some trapped prisoner, he was the hunter now, the one in charge.

The more of the place he scouted out tonight, the more progress he could make tomorrow night with Snake.
