Day 46: Intercom, Evening

Dec 30, 2009 03:48

The intercom jingle went off, mirroring the cheery voice that came out of the speakers soon after it.

"Hello, everyone, and I hope you found productive endeavors in both your music-making and your therapy sessions! Now, our nurses will be escorting all of you to your rooms and to your delicious dinners. Tonight, we're serving moist slices of ( Read more... )

Honey would be pleased with dessert, and after the past couple nights of it being nothing all that grand he was glad to be able to offer it. The ninja set his next to his roommate's the moment his nurse left him. The rest of the meal looked palatable and fairly light, which was good. Sai quietly sat down to begin on his salad.

He had plans for the night, which was good, though he hadn't posted a message on the bulletin for Usopp. It was probably too early for that anyway. They were just becoming reacquainted.

Once his roommate arrived he decided he'd go ahead and change clothes. He also felt the need to stretch. There hadn't been enough strenuous activity for him to participate in over the past couple days and he didn't want to get rusty.

After a long day of play, Honey was feeling somewhat sleepy by the time his nurse led him to his room. Usually he would get an afternoon nap at the very least, but he hadn't had more than a couple of those since arriving here. He wasn't on the verge of being cranky just yet, but he was definitely feeling sleepier than usual.

He stopped mid-yawn to greet his roommate though, waving a tired hand and giving Sai a cheery smile. "Sai-chan!" he cooed, face brightening visibly when he saw that there was not one, but two servings of chocolate cake on his tray.

"Caaaake!" he declared happily before taking a big bite with his plastic fork.

Sai smiled real and wide at Honey's declaration, an inkling of something in the back of his voice that might have been laughter. Almost. "I'm glad that makes you happy." Indeed, Honey was so innocent and childlike that the ninja never knew quite what to make of him. He was certainly good at brightening the mood of a room.

That might be the same face Naruto would make over a large bowl of ramen after having been away from it for several days. He knew the cry of joy was different only in the word used.

He returned to his own dinner, hoping to get a few more bites in before he went about getting ready for the night.

Honey made quick work of his first piece of cake, almost regretting that he had to eat the normal food afterward and ruin the taste. He kicked his feet back and forth, humming every other bite as he finished the last of the chocolate with his finger, scraping it from the plate.

"It's so good! Thank you Sai-chan!" he remembered that without Sai's generosity, he'd only be getting half as much cake tonight. It was a noble sacrifice, in Honey's opinion. And Takashi usually gave up his too. He really hoped that was because they just didn't like cake as much and that he wasn't being too much of a bother. As much as he loved cake, he also loved his friends too.

"Did you have a good day? I got to play with the kittens! They're so soft."

Heat took one look at the dinner he was given and scowled. The tray was picked up and unceremoniously slammed down onto his roommate's desk, which narrowly avoided getting his drink tipped over on it with the movement. He was still irritated with the staff for not allowing him to take the music back to his room to continue listening to before the doors opened. They at least owed him that much after the shit they'd already pulled.

He was calmed only slightly by the knowledge that he might be getting to hunt properly that night. His hunger had only barely been kept at bay by the small meal he'd managed.

The demon kept himself from pacing by taking a seat on the edge of his bed. He wanted to tear things to shreds. He wanted to find that doctor and make real on his earlier threat. The door wasn't going to open again soon enough.

Aww, damn. Beelzemon argued (really loudly) with his nurse over having to leave Renamon, no matter what they said about how he'd get to see her in the morning. He didn't care, he wanted to keep talking now!

And things kept on getting better. He'd forgotten about his roommate. Who was... Well, he hadn't thrown anything yet, so that was a start.

Beelzemon sat down on his side of the room, taking the tray that the guy apparently didn't want--the nurse put his own on the other side of the room anyway, so there wasn't much point--and digging in, rather than dealing with whatever the hell was going on with this guy. Only problem was, any silence involving Beelzemon was an awkward silence. He wasn't good at this.

It figured they wouldn't just give his roommate both trays, and Heat watched the other nurse leave with a derisive snort. Once the door closed again, he stood and walked over to his desk, snatching it up and placing it next to the other one in front of Beelzemon. Eat up, he wanted to joke, 'cause I might still be hungry later. His roommate probably wouldn't appreciate the humor, though.

"Whatever you saw of me yesterday," he said instead, "forget about it." Even if it wasn't as if he wouldn't still toss a tray across the room if he was angry enough. They'd just clean it up before he woke the next morning anyway. There weren't any signs of last night's mess now.

Oh, more food. "Uh... thanks, I guess. You don' want any?" He really didn't know what to make of this guy at all.

"Same with me. 'm not some dumb human." Yeah, 'm a dumb Digimon instead. Ha ha freakin' ha. "'m not Derek or whoever they made me think I was." Why had they even done that, anyway? It was just so weird and it hadn't even stayed! Why do it for only one day?

Well, dinner looked bland but not bad. ...Though wow, that was a nice large slice of cake. Leon slid his tray just a bit to the side in order to first wolf down his dessert. After all, there was a tiny off-chance that he might be interrupted before he got to it otherwise, and he was a growing boy.

He was pleased to note a similar itching beginning on either side of his head as he'd dealt with the night before. It might be the only time he knew of an itch ever making someone happy, but if it meant his ears were going to return again he'd gladly deal with it. There was already a big goofy smile on his face, he was pretty sure, and this time Keman was going to be himself so he could show them off properly.

Leon hadn't expected to receive an apology the moment his roommate walked in. He'd already apologized on the board. It was enough that he was safe after running off last night. The boy shook his head and waved the words off.

"I told you it was fine already! Don't worry about it." He was trying to keep from scratching at his head, since he knew how unseemly that could look, but he was just about ready to give in. About as he was raising one hand up to do just that, his real ears popped out and replaced his human ones. The mage squealed happily only to immediately blush in embarrassment at the sound. Keman had been right, it seemed. Having his ears back wasn't just a one night thing.

Cloud was grateful to be able to return to his room after the mess of a day he'd been put through. His dinner was avoided altogether as he flopped down onto his bed and stared blankly at the ceiling. Did many people have to go through situations like this here, he wondered. Though it might be a sore subject to bring up with his roommate, he couldn't help but be curious about it. Had Luke run into anyone that should have been dead ( ... )

Some things never changed.

It wasn't a bad thing, but it was frustrating. Now, Luke felt like he wasn't trying to make Master Van see him, but Asch. He didn't need his original's acknowledgment, but he knew that in order to work effectively here, Asch needed to acknowledge that Luke wasn't useless. Or rather: he needed to admit it. He wanted things to be better. He wanted to believe in the somewhat unrealistic ideal that things would be better once they left this place, and that even if it was horrible, they could make it out alive. Being stubborn, ignoring that, acting as if these possibilities didn't exist-it wasn't a good idea. It wasn't like Luke himself didn't know that there was a chance that things wouldn't work out, but it didn't matter. Why would he give up on his chance to exist like that? To live, and for Asch to live, too ( ... )

The voice of his roommate brought Cloud out of the mild stupor he'd fallen into. His eyes opened slowly and he turned to blink at Luke. His concern caused him to smile and he sat up. It was better to have a caring roommate than otherwise, he supposed. "Ah... I guess I didn't really think about it. Had other things on my mind."

He wasn't truly all that hungry, but he knew that eating at least a little of what he was given would be better for him in the long run. Now that there were two trays of food in the room the smell was starting to get to him. The blond slid from his bed and walked over to his desk to retrieve the tray before returning to his bed. Luke was at his now, and sitting over in the chair would only make it look like he was trying to put some distance between them. That wasn't something he wanted. Everyone had to stick together in this place ( ... )

A few pieces of turkey were shoved into his mouth while Cloud stirred and responded to him. Luke decided that the gravy was supposed to hide the taste of the turkey in some way, because otherwise, it would have been rather dry and stringy. Turkey was turkey, but it reminded him of the bad chicken they would come across sometimes, but would still be forced to use if the travels were difficult. Wrinkling his nose, he welcomed the question, and quickly forgot his food.

"It was ... interesting," he said, knowing that the word 'interesting' was pretty vague. Anise and Guy's visits were the good kind of interesting, while Sync's was bad. Asch's fell somewhere in the middle, but that wasn't surprising in the least, and so did his conversations on the bulletin with the other people from his world. "I managed to find most of my friends and I found out a lot about this place. Haha, I felt pretty stupid when I realized we probably weren't from the same world after all." He didn't want to mention that he found out that one of his friends had ( ... )

Homura headed back to his room behind his nurse, grinning each time she bemoaned the mess he seemed destined to make with the glitter in his hair. However unfortunate anyone other than Okita and Nataku found it, the demi-god seemed to be simply stuck with the decoration until it all fell out. Yet the sparkles were proving amazingly resilient, or at least so numerous that the storm he caused each time he shook his head or ran fingers through his hair hadn't lessened the effect ( ... )

Wow. Broken bones, crutches, serious injuries... the patients here sure knew how to get themselves hurt, didn't they?

That alone had given Kibitoshin enough food for thought to give him a royal case of mental indigestion. With such a wide range of injuries came an equally wide range of ways to get them, and with that came an even wider pool of teeth and claws and weapons all out to get him. Typical! Just... typical!

Oh, well. Even if stopping people from being attacked in the first place was a tad beyond him in most cases, helping them recover afterwards was equally rewarding. And with the amount of people hurt every night he was never going to be without someone to look after, either. Just whether that was a good thing or not he hadn't quite decided- he could manage those two healings tomorrow with enough preparation, right?- but he tried not to let that bother him for now ( ... )
