Day 46: Intercom, Evening

Dec 30, 2009 03:48

The intercom jingle went off, mirroring the cheery voice that came out of the speakers soon after it.

"Hello, everyone, and I hope you found productive endeavors in both your music-making and your therapy sessions! Now, our nurses will be escorting all of you to your rooms and to your delicious dinners. Tonight, we're serving moist slices of ( Read more... )

For the first time since he'd gotten there, Terry actually felt good as he headed back to his room towards dinner. He, Kurt, and Peter were definitely forming something of an alliance, and that had been the one thing everyone agreed Terry should do when he first got there. And just as important, the Flash had agreed to actually come by. The guy would probably freak out once he realized 'Alex' hadn't been kidding, but so long as he got Wally to stick around long enough to see the batsuit, Terry knew he could convince him. And with Wayne being--unavailable, it was all the more important that he find someone who would at least vouch for him with the Robins and whoever else showed up ( ... )

Finding no note from Terry, Peter, or Kitty on the board, he figured that everyone must have been taking a night off. And the way Peter had looked when he'd brought up Matt and Logan, Kurt could understand why. Maybe everyone was just totally burnt out--though he was still nervous that he hadn't seen Kitty around during the day. Maybe she was resting too.

He was obviously absolutely thrilled at the prospect of food and doing nothing but lazing around with Terry. Maybe he'd show Kurt the suit in his closet. It had looked totally awesome, but Kurt hadn't really seen anything past the red insignia on the front. Maybe he should check his closet too... if his uniform had been in there the whole time, he would kick himself.

Kurt entered the room with his tray, smiling as the nurse closed the door behind him. "Hey Terry!" he said, a bit more chipper after his talk with Tony. "How'sit going?" he asked, mounting his desk while balancing his tray on one hand. He brought his dinner onto his lap, digging in almost immediately.

Oh yeah. One pout, incoming shortly. Terry hid the pang of guilt behind a smile though, glad to see that Kurt was apparently feeling better too. "Hey Kurt." And like his friend, Terry began eating his own meal. Not quite like mom's Thanksgiving, but he couldn't complain.

"So, listen." Terry knew there wasn't any good way to go about it, so hopefully being direct would be the least painful. "I need to talk to someone from my world tonight. But he doesn't know who I am, and he's not going to want to trust me, especially since he's another one of us who keeps his identity secret." Terry let out a little sigh then, and ran a hand through his hair. "It's going to be hard enough to talk to him by myself, but I'm worried he won't open up at all if you're here too. So...if it's okay, do you think you could leave the room when night starts?"

Hopefully, if Terry was lucky, that didn't make him sound like a complete ass.

"Leave...?" Kurt said, trailing off. Well, there went his plans of hanging out and relaxing. He'd have to sit outside the door all night or something. Though he could see that Terry had a point--if Kurt being there would cause the guy to freak out, he shouldn't be there.

Didn't mean Kurt didn't feel a little left out in the cold.

"Yeah, sure man. No problem. I thought I'd go try to find Kitty anyway." Which was a total lie, but he could go try to find Kitty now that his vacation in his room was defunct and he had no idea where Peter was going to be. Didn't leave him with much choice. Maybe he'd try to find the food, too. He could really go for some cookies or something.

"I'll leave you to you date," Kurt said with a wide grin.

With nothing besides dinner left until the day officially ended, Kakashi found himself a little eager for it to be night. Not because he enjoyed anything that went on during those hours, but because he was eager to see Obito again. Everything wrong and terrible about the situation aside, there was part of him that had just missed his friend. He wasn't expecting it to be easy or awkward between them, but just having this chance to spend time together was more than Kakashi had ever thought possible in his life ( ... )

[Oh god so behind ;; We can backthread if you like, Tad?]

His conversation with Claude had been...tense, to say the least. He wasn't entirely sure how angry his rival still was, or how much of that anger was still justified. Unexplained, his actions bordered on the unforgivable, but having had a chance to tell Claude his reasoning and intentions...well, he honestly wasn't sure if they warranted any forgiveness at all, regardless of what Claude thought of them.

He was rather withdrawn even by his own standards by the time dinner rolled around, and took no notice of the book his roommate was reading.

Finally! Aerith hated to say she was looking forward to Nightshift, but she couldn't help but be excited to see Yuffie and Cloud again. She wasn't even sure who else would be showing up. For all she knew, more of AVALANCHE were here that she didn't even know about. Even in such terrible conditions, it was hard not to smile at least a little bit as she was led off to her room.

Dinner looked tasty as usual; Aerith found that she certainly wouldn't be complaining about the food here. A quick look around the room revealed that whoever her roommate was hadn't shown up just yet. With a small pout forming on her lips, the flower girl took a seat and started in on her dinner.

Regardless of how well the end of the shift had gone, HK was still irritated at the not-meatbag he'd been talking to. He was obviously Cybertronian. And with how he'd seen Lockdown acting, he was obviously Prowl.

HK grouched at his nurse the entire way back, (Observation: You really are pathetic, meatbag. Query: What is it like being pathetic? Commentary: It must be awful, because you can't get any better. ...Statement: No, I will not answer your question. Pathetic meatbag.) then quickly snatched his tray out of the meatbag's hands (Chocolate!!!) and then stared at his cake, trying to figure out if he should eat it first, or deal with the irritation of nutrition instead.

He decided on doing neither for the moment, in favor of watching the door. Lockdown, as the juvenile blue Twi'lek might say, had some 'splainin' to do.

Today had been... oh what was the word he was looking for? Interesting? Yeah, might as well go with that.

First Prowl shows up, then the old medibot with the EMP. There was also the whole therapy thing. If Lockdown never talked to Wilson again it would be too soon. Of course, the meatbag had said he'd see the bounty hunter again next week. That gave Lockdown plenty of time to figure out new ways to get under the doctor's skin.

As soon as he was in his room, Lockdown looked right at HK, who apparently had been waiting for him, and said, "Okay, first things first. Yes, I'm definately me again." Best to get that out of the way, "And second, you and I got things we need to talk about." Namely when it came to a certain Autobot cyberninja.

Aaah, good. HK had considered Lockdown restored to his sanity after he'd seen all of the meatbags that had done the same, but direct confirmation was always preferable.

But not enough to deter him from immediately asking questions. "Query: Who was the probably not-meatbag who attempted to hit you during the first refueling shift? Is he Prowl? Statement: Because he attempted to pretend that he was a meatbag when I spoke to him and didn't manage it very convincingly, but he insisted upon it."

So much for keeping them in the dark about each other. Oh well, he could work around this.

"Yeah, that was Prowl. He acts like he's gotsome kinda death wish for me. Managed to convince him to be partners again," And they'd stay partners this time if Lockdown had anything to say about it. "He wants to hide himself from the other bots here. Don't know why, yet. He probably also thinks gettin' involved with you is a bad idea."

Tony didn't realize he'd been half expecting to step through the threshold to M79 and promptly black out until he found himself sitting at his desk with a tray of dinner before him, in complete possession of his own faculties. It was almost as disconcerting, in a way, as coming to with a nurse standing over him and chastising him for oversleeping might have been. He hadn't been able to determine any pattern to the periods of unconsciousness, but he didn't have enough data to be entirely certain they were random, either.

At least so far they hadn't taken place anywhere populated by the various monsters of the institute, though he was loath to declare the patient rooms safe any longer ( ... )

And now the moment of truth. Wally had spotted Tony earlier in the day and the guy had seemed fine, but he was more than aware that that didn't exactly mean much. He could still open the door and find he had an unconscious roommate to worry about, like the last few nights. Well, only one way to find out for sure, right?

Accepting his tray from the nurse, Wally pushed open the door, slipped inside the room, and stared in surprise for a few seconds before making his way over to his own desk. Whaddaya know, Tony was actually awake, which was a pretty awesome change.

"I was gonna dump a cup of water on you at this rate," he commented aloud as he sat down. "Either that or start holding conversations with myself. What did you do to end up that out of it?"
