Nightshift 44: West Wing, North Hall 2-B

The door gave after a few hard kicks and Okita paused as it swung open, revealing a dark hall. He hated making such noise, but since they were the first ones this way, he had no choice. After waiting a few minutes, he couldn't hear anything that would indicate danger ahead and so he moved forward. He'd been to the morgue before and he remembered that it was at the very end of this hall and that it was dangerous. Hijikata had still been with them at that point, and it was lucky he had been. The shadow that lurked in the morgue, hiding in the cold and the dark, had all but destroyed Okita's will to live and nearly wrecked his relationship with Heiji and Kaito.
Here, also, it was a guarantee that no other patients would hear them so Okita no longer kept up the facade of treating Ayumu as Sen. Once she was through the door, he closed it behind them and moved forward, his hand at the ready on the hilt of his sword. "I need someone I can trust at my back, and he needs to see what you are capable of. Besides, what else is there to do tonight? Your target has been...unstable as of late, and with the Head Doctor's announcement, his efforts are going to be significantly curtailed. Your main mission has not changed, but every so often a little exercise isn't so bad, is it?"
He paused as they reached the midway point. This would be as good of a place as any to wait for Shinichi and Heiji. He looked at Ayumu, smiling slightly before dropping back into a business-like tone. He had orders to give and a warning to issue. "Himura-san has been sworn to secrecy, along with the female at his side. She is covered by the truce, and any attacks against her will be considered an attack on Himura-san himself. The same goes for you. Should they attempt anything against you, I will kill them both." But that didn't extend to certain other parties, most notably Lelouch's little information agent. "...Yuffie-san, however, is another issue altogether. She has been growing far too close to Lelouch and his associates. And I believe Himura-san had her on your trail before he realized your connection to me. From now on, to maintain your cover, any weapons or sensitive materials you acquire will be kept in my room. Keep a small supply with you and lock it in your desk if possible. The rest, give to me and I'll keep under my mattress. Retrieve them as you need them."
