Night 43: M51-M60 Hallway

Aug 29, 2009 21:50

The intercom's words grew more and more telling as the day neared its end. Faize now understood that to those running the institute, he and the other captives were the subjects of some sort of reeducation program, one which was responsible for the brainwashing of patients, visitors, and doctors alike. Next Wave, the announcements mentioned often. ( Read more... )

[ From hereSasuke's room was only a block away, and Kakashi had fortunately seemed to avoid any major happenings in the hall. Maybe there were good things to be said for being early, but the jounin wouldn't be the one saying them. At least not in front of his students ( ... )

After his talk with Aidou, Sasuke had contemplated the pros and cons of trying to find new allies or possibly making an attempt at separating a Konoha-nin from the herd to a sufficiently trustworthy degree. The vampire had a point, and Sasuke had certainly run into the idea more than once himself; the unfortunate fact of the matter was that the most reliable allies that Sasuke had been able to cultivate were nearly all gone. Aidou was really the only one left besides Sai -- and Sai now reported to Shikamaru, of all people ( ... )

Slowly? Kakashi had expected to be invited in, but that particular adjective was out of place, especially when he thought about how 'nicely' Sasuke had asked him for this little meeting. Any questions he might have had were quickly answered, however, as Kakashi pushed open the door and got a whiff of the air ( ... )

Kakashi was on time and smelled delicious. Sasuke almost wasn't sure which observation was of greater concern. It appeared that the jounin had taken his request perhaps even more seriously than necessary; then again, Sasuke had to admit that it was probably something of a surprise. Still, he couldn't think of another person here whom he could reasonably expect to be able to keep his mouth shut about so minor a thing, unless Kakashi had changed beyond the point of recognition (although he was answering to Shikamaru ( ... )

The crackling of the intercom interrupted Leonard's thoughts. Whatever the problem is, it doesn't sound good. His eyes returned to the journal and notes set before him on the desk. Now then... what was I doing?

THERE'S A BARBECUE SPATULA IN YOUR WARDROBE. DOESN'T MATTER HOW IT GOT THERE. PUT IT TO GOOD USE.

MAKE A DIAGRAM OF YOUR SITUATION.

He rose from his chair, opening the wardrobe. Surely enough, his notes were right- there was a sharp, grilling spatula sitting on the floor of the wardrobe, just next to his shoes. Not even hidden well. It's a wonder the nurses haven't checked my room. He grabbed the handle of the utensil. Heavy. Guess I can fend for myself if I decide to explore a bit. He looked at his journal one more time, flipping to the maps he'd copied onto a few of the pages. I can find supplies for a diagram in the Arts and Crafts room, I guess. Makes sense a room with that name would have tape and paper.Weapon in hand, he shoved his notes into his journal, grabbing his photos and shoving them with the book ( ... )

[continued from here]"Pretty dull overall, though I ran into an old acquaintance." 'Acquaintance' was probably too strong a word. Matt had never met L face to face before arriving in Landel's. The simple fact of how much influence the man had on his life was reason enough to consider there a connection ( ... )

"It's...always interesting when that happens." That certainly wasn't a lie, Edgeworth thought. It had been interesting, in a few senses of the word. Hopefully all of that would come out positively, though...who knew? Thinking about it reminded him that there were a few people he still needed to speak to. That could wait for later, though.

"I agree -- " Any other thoughts were stopped by that sight. The voice pinged once, loudly, but he paid it no mind, assuming that it was just the aftereffect of that strange visual display a moment before. Even if there was no real emotional attachment here, he wasn't one to let that go.

Edgeworth crossed the room, kneeling down in front of his roommate. "What's wrong, Robin?"

Matt was greatly disturbing himself with what he was about to do. He should have stood up and run from the room the moment the doors open, but the smell of food so close and so easily brought within his grasp was driving him to do things he normally wouldn't even consider.

It was a shame Edgeworth had already changed clothes. This would be so much easier to do if he'd just been wearing the regular uniform.

When he turned his eyes on his roommate fully, they were strained with a maddening hunger. "Sorry about this," was the only warning he gave before lunging toward Edgeworth's neck. The element of surprise was about all he had on his side, as being partially zombified hadn't given anything to his strength and agility - a rather bum deal, if you asked him.

"What in the -- "

There wasn't time to react before there were teeth between his neck and shoulder, and he screamed in unison with the voice. What in the world? I didn't think --

And then there wasn't time at all to think, just react. Edgeworth pushed Matt away, clasping one hand to the wound on his neck and glaring. "What in the world are you playing at?" He didn't give the man a chance to answer before he moved to his closet, taking out the sword and pointing it forward.

"Is this an effect from last night?"

Shutting the door firmly behind him, Sechs wasted no time turning on his flashlight before embarking upon his brisk prowl down the hallway. Having that quick dinner in the same room as Will was nearly unbearable for him; Sechs wanted to put as much distance between him and his aggravating roommate as possible.

With the flashlight in his possession, Sechs had far less trouble finding his way down the hall than the first night he arrived here. Nonetheless, Sechs' instincts were on high alert; the whole place gave off nothing but unnerving vibes. The garbled announcement over the speakers didn't exactly help put Sechs' mind at ease either. "What the hell is wrong with that I.R.I.S thing?" the Replica pondered to himself, "it sounds like a Deckman having a seizure or something..."As he approached the hall that Sechs agreed to meet Kibitoshin in, he began to wish he had a better means of looking around himself for danger. His cyborg eye enhanced his sight while Mini-Sechs would have kept a lookout for anything coming from behind. ( ... )

Machete resting easily against his shoulder, Jason fell silent as he stepped out into the mostly empty hallway. Two-Face had wanted to meet in front of the Sun Room. It wouldn't take him long to get there, he might even beat Dent depending on where his room was.

Keeping a cautious look out for any new surprises in store for tonight, he headed towards the end of the hall. These areas had tended to be fairly safe in the past but that might have changed. Last night's fun had been a first as far as he could tell and along with the change in the intercom it might signal a change in how things worked around here. He wasn't about to be caught off guard.

Night had finally arrived, and Fox was a little more apprehensive about it than he was on most nights. He was leaving Snake all alone to go spend time with Big Boss, so he was concerned about Snake getting in over his head somewhere.

Although Snake was good enough that Fox shouldn't have felt guilty about not staying with him. He couldn't protect Snake all the time, he knew that, and Snake really didn't need it. If they couldn't trust one another to operate alone they were no good to one another.

He put on an extra shirt and the coat provided to help block out as much of the blue light coming from the implant in his back as possible. It really was impossible to sneak around like that. In the darkness of the institute even the faint blue light might as well have been a signal flare to anyone and anything that had a pair of functioning eyes.

Fox carefully put his flashlight and toolkit into a pocket, with his modified radio going into another. With everything he needed, Fox grabbed his sword and set out into the night.
