DAY 42: THE BOOKWORM

Jun 30, 2009 21:10

[ from here]The smell of old paper, leather and cardboard was oddly comforting. It had been too long since Ritsuka had been able to visit the patient library and since he was only able to check out one book, he usually had way too much time on his hand. Ritsuka was used to reading at least one or two books a day, so having just one for an entire ( Read more... )

Speaking with Ronixis had been enlightening, in many ways. Faize certainly hadn't expected to meet someone from over three hundred years in the future - especially not one who had so much in common with his own experiences. It was odd, knowing precisely what sort of future awaited Roak long after Faize's own life would reach its end. Still, the Eldarian was grateful for the knowledge imparted to him, and hoped he would meet the man again to talk more ( ... )

Despite himself, Adelheid had gone to the book store once again. He knew that there were no works of history or nonfiction, or at least, nonfiction that was relevant to the interests of the patient body as a whole. However, he knew that there were things unique to himself that he'd wanted to read, to remind himself of who he was and what he came from. That was why he had gone into the Bookworm, to retrieve a book of mythology and folklore.

After he'd gotten the book, he was pleasantly surprised to see a familiar face- or, well, semi-familiar. That shade of green hair was not easily forgotten. After a moment to mark his place, Adelheid made his way over to the young man- or so he thought- and said, "It's good to see you again, Faize."

There weren't yet many at Landel's whom Faize had become acquainted with, so it was a surprise when he was interrupted by someone familiar. He raised his head away from the shelf, and turned to face the one who had addressed him. Adelheid... the young man he had met at lunch just yesterday. Faize had been hoping they would meet again soon.

"Well now, this is a pleasant coincidence," he greeted in return, a small smile on his face. "What brings you here?"

Adelheid held up his book as an explanation, the front cover proudly proclaiming the "Collected Myths and Folklore of Japan." By way of further explanation, he added, "I was hoping to see if there were some parallels between this world and my own. The histories might have been taken away, but they did leave other things behind."

Though it still rather stung that apparently what his world took for granted was considered 'fiction' by this world.

Ah well, there was no point in brooding about that. Instead, he asked, "Yourself?"

Allen remembered to pull open the door before following Franziska into the shop. It had that familiar smell of printed paper and a cozy sort of atmosphere. He wasn't much for books, but Lavi would've loved a place like this. In fact, that was exactly what was so familiar. It looked like Lavi's room. Only neater. Much, much neater. The books were actually on shelves instead of strewn about the room in disorganized piles.

An Exorcist? Well, it couldn't be any more strange than being a mystic. Hearing that the Vatican might be employing some less than public faces was nothing new to her, either, so Allen's occupation did little to rile her feathers. At most, she would ask about the intentions of this Black Order of his since anything named "Black" was usually quite ominous - Vatican or no. As for his age, that was nothing. She had been training to be a prosecutor since she could talk, possibly before, and had achieved her goal at 13 ( ... )

Politely, Raine opened the door to let Reinforce in ahead of her. "It's a little lacking, but..." It was still an area full of books, and to them, that was all that mattered!

All right, it would be difficult to find any information that was even marginally useful, but she found it doubtful that there would be nothing whatsoever worth learning in here.

They may have tried to remove anything we could use, or even put in misleading information, but I think we can find out a few things.

...and if not, a day spent reading was rarely wasted time.

Rein felt the same; she didn't expect to learn much here, but being surrounded by the high shelves of books put her at ease. If only they'd had some kind of chance to visit a proper national-level archive or the like...

She walked in ahead of Raine and took a moment to just soak in the atmosphere. It was very pleasant, indeed...

Thia time Raine went straight to the mythology section; those tended to have at least a hint of truth in them, in her experience, and it would help them figure out what was known here. "I've wondered if it would be worthwhile to ask a local their opinion on these books; all we really have to say is that we're new in town."

She knew a little something about taking advantage of a situation, and it wasn't remotely above her dignity to do so.

"To find out whether they find the selection limited as well?" Rein asked, following after her. She hadn't been here before, so she had no idea whether the townsfolk were the same as the nurses. What would they say if asked for a history...? The lack of any information on that topic hadn't escaped her notice.

She was curious about how much could be inferred on that topic from the nonfiction books. Invariably reference material would contain some level of historical background.
