((From

Standing there at the bottom of the stairs, he studied the maw of darkness before him. Going up without light was going to be dangerous, but the payoff could be worth it. There might be supplies of some

Fox stopped once he reached the stairs to look around, waiting until Otacon caught up before speaking again. "If this is going to work, you're going to have to do exactly as I tell you, even if it doesn't make sense, or you don't think it's a good idea. If I tell you to run, you run, and you don't look back." He paused for a moment to let Otacon process what he'd said.
This was going to be a first. He hadn't done group missions sense the early days of FOXHOUND, and even then, he'd done a lot more solo. The last person to go on a non-solo mission with him had been Snake. Fox had also never gone sneaking with a civilian. Then again, if Snake was willing to take Otacon with him...

He looked up at the stairs, silently readying himself for what they might find. "You need to watch out for yourself too, you know."

"So what's really been going on with Snake?"
Reply
No. Otacon would make sure that didn't happen.
"I'm not exactly sure what you mean." They had to get moving. "You lead, I'll follow," said Otacon, standing aside and gesturing up the stairs.

Glad to be away from the two brothers - not because he had anything against them, but because he simply could not be delayed - Roy led the way out of the male block with Hughes and Heiderich in tow. As far as he knew, turning left would lead them easily to the soccer field. No locked doors, so no reason to head in that direction.
Turning slightly to the right, he approached the closest door and nodded when he confirmed that it was locked. He went for his keys and methodically tried each one out on the door. He only had three, so it didn't take very long. None of them were the correct fit. Well, that was all right. He hadn't expected it to be so simple.
"If we move over to the female side, there should be another door just like this," he announced. "Other than that, I think that's all there is as far as locked doors on this side of the first floor."

"So you think we should head upstairs if that doesn't work?" Hughes asked. "We've checked almost all the doors down here now, that'll probably be one of the last... unless we missed one. But you've been pretty methodical." Hughes hadn't been upstairs yet.

He'd like it if he could be more than excess baggage in this little trip. That, and locked doors tended to hold more than unlocked ones. That just went without saying.
Other than that, he was just along for the ride. The two older man knew a lot more about this place than he did, though his blue eyes kept a close look for where they were and where they were going. It wouldn't do for him to get lost if he was separated, right?

Hakkai stopped near the nurse's station, one hand on the wall, wishing very hard for his youkai senses. Oh, no, he would never, ever, ever be upset about what he was again.
He felt exposed out here, with the open area of the larger hallway directly in front of them. He didn't like it. He checked to make sure Rabastan was still with them, then half-turned toward Kenren, still keeping most of his attention on the hallway in front of him. "Nurse's station here. The sun room should be just down that way." He gestured off to their left. "I'm not sure what might be up the stairs or down the other direction."

This was entertained for Rabastan.
Giving his radio another pat for courage, he kept to the wall as well. Open spaces weren't exactly something he was comfortable with yet. His room here was bigger than his cell. Keeping his wand down, he watched the other two men worriedly. He could tell neither seemed too happy for him to be there, but he'd been given orders to stay with them. Such made no sense to Bast.
The best he could do was not further upset them.

Speaking of odd... Rabastan had been unusually quiet since they'd left the residence block. Hakkai tossed him a concerned glance before turning back to the problem at hand.
He tried the door, but it wasn't going to budge. Pity he didn't have his lock picks. He knew the correspondence course should have included a lesson on how to use common, household objects instead of picks.
"Unfortunately, whether there is or not, it doesn't look like we'll be finding out any time soon. The door is locked. Looks like we're moving on. Any suggestions?"

Haku frowned in thought and flicked on the light in his hand briefly, then flicked it back off. This was the hallway that had lead to the "Sun Room". He closed his eyes and drew a mental map of what he'd walked so far and compared it to the one he had remembered from that day.
Once he had that firmly in his mind, he opened his eyes. The glimpse from the light, and his own ears had revealed a few options. Stairs in front of him that he could move up, a hallway to his left and right, voices indicating others in the area...
He headed up the stairs.
(( Going up.))
