For once, this hall was devoid of traffic, though people were beginning to appear in the adjacent areas. Ken simply looked on and ran, seeing little point in staying in one place.
Scar passed the next hallway silently, not having the desire to draw unwanted attention from the patients traversing through this hall. After all, he had a destination in mind for tonight.
He may not have intended to go that way, but Kurogane did give the left hallway a glance before heading the way he needed. No, no overpowering scent of blood this night. Something drastic must have happened for that one time. Most likely a death. He'd seen a few notices on the board (had argued with one brat a bit), so it wasn't impossible. He just hoped he'd never recognize any names of those killed.
[from here]Brainiac 5 shone his flashlight along the hallway in both directions, trying to make out if there was anything of interest that would warrant further investigation. Considering how many other people were in the area, he had to wonder why no one had thought to activate any form of light source beyond the primitive and largely ineffectual handheld lights. Unless he'd somehow managed to arrive in the midst of a power crisis, it made little sense to have everyone relying on their own flashlights to move around. But then it was also highly possible that none of these people were supposed to be wandering around after dark and were trying to avoid drawing attention to themselves, which would also explain the air of caution many of them had
( ... )
This hallway was a lot larger than the one they had been in before, and there seemed to be a lot more foot traffic here. Akihiko looked in both directions, then asked, "Which way do you think we should head?"
He didn't press it, thankfully. If they got the chance to discuss it later, then she would likely have to tell him, but for now she would rather focus on getting out. There was no sense in dragging up those memories without purpose when there was still work to be done. Her father wouldn't have wanted her to mope, after all.
The hallway that they came out into seemed much larger than the previous ones, and there were more people traveling through it. It was almost starting to look like a maze, with all the halls going every which way, but it wasn't as bad as Tartarus. Not as far as she was aware, at least.
"Let's avoid the stairs for now, and head to the left," she suggested. "If there's nothing telling us where we are, or if we can't find our Evokers, then we can backtrack and head up them."
It wasn't that he wasn't concerned, but there was simply no sense in talking about it now. It took a lot to rattle Mitsuru - he could count the times he had seen her truly upset on one hand. Whatever had happened, though, it wasn't worth making her talk about it now.
"All right," he nodded. "I really wish you could scan ahead, though, so we'd know if there was anything dangerous. Oh, well. This isn't Tartarus. We should be fine."
Akihiko peered ahead - it looked as if the hallway extended on quite a ways, and forked off at the next junction. "I'll let you lead the way, Mitsuru."
Scanning would have come in very handy at this point, and it would have been nice to have Yamagishi around at this point, but this was also a place she wouldn't wish for any of the others to be in. They'd lasted before without Yamagishi, and Akihiko was right. This wasn't Tartarus. They should be fine, so long as they were careful.
"Very well. Let's see what we can find." Mitsuru nodded and started off at a brisk pace, lighting the way.
Made it. Nny slowed down and took a look at the map. He hadn't taken much time in copying it, so he had to stare at it for a while before it made sense. He had to go down three more fucking halls? What kind of building design was that? Shit, there should have been a door to his destination one hall back if the architects had any sense.
'Nny, this is useless. Why don't you just go back to sleep? Oh! You could try to find that GLaDOs girl! She seemed nice...' his own voice whispered in his ear.
Nny spun around and saw only wall. "Fuck you," he growled as he began to run towards his turn-off. Maybe he could outrun him.
