As Peter was led back to his room from the lobby, he wasn't exactly sure about how he should feel. On the one hand, it had been a relief to see his brother again, to know that he'd survived even if the price was believing he was some "Harrison Campbell." On the other, having to face that disbelief and seeing the almost condescending (yet pitying) look in Nathan's eyes had been difficult.

Plus, there was the fact that he felt responsible for letting this place do that to his brother in the first place, along with the fear that he might not be able to reverse the effects. He couldn't let himself fall into pessimism, though. He had always been the optimist, and he was going to have to keep that up now, no matter how hard it got - for Nathan's sake ( ... )

Of course, now, when Sano was trying to explain things, the halls they went through didn't have any proof. Not that he wished monsters on anyone, really, but if it was happening, it would've been nice to be able to point it out to Yahiko with a See? I'm right, so stop bitching. to go along with it. But knowing the prison they were in, it wouldn't be long before Yahiko really did see ( ... )

This wasn't a hallway she'd been down before, but that didn't really matter. They were all pretty much the same anyway; boring, boring, boring.

Normally Yuffie would be grouching about the lack of stimulation, or making at least some mischief in an effort to keep herself entertained. But now, that was the furthest thing from her mind - all she really cared about was finding Cid and kicking him in the shins for making her worry. Her... worry! The pilot'd probably bust a gut laughing.

Well... he would, when she found him! Following the room numbers, Yuffie dashed along, thoroughly ignoring Sagara and Shrimp. Cid's room wasn't far, was it? Just at the end -- aha, there! "Hey, old man!" She called, rapping on the door of M21. "Rise n' shine, I'm comin' in!" Without waiting for an answer, the ninja pulled the door open, an obnoxious grin plastered on her face.

The grin fell off her face as though it had burned her, the moment she got a good look inside. One side of the room was occupied, but not by anybody she knew. And the other side ( ... )

Yahiko batted away Sano's hand with a grumble, but he was right: there was no way Yahiko could understand what was being explained. A pretend hospital? For crazy people? Did those even exist? And he still didn't know if they were in Mongolia!

The next question, though, was easy enough to answer. "I'm fifteen," Yahiko said, a strong note of pride in his voice. "Kenshin gave me his sakabatou as a genpuku celebration." He still mostly used wooden swords, of course, but after knowing Kenshin for so long, he expected Sano to know that. Swords weren't drawn lightly, even swords designed not to take lives.

When the girl took off running Yahiko pursued, assuming Sano would do the same. He stood back, watching her open the door expectantly, wilt, then spin and slam it shut behind her. Um. Alright.

This was definitely something for Sano to deal with.

"Seriously?" Sanosuke beamed in pride when he heard it, even though he wasn't too surprised. The kid had always been strong and dedicated. Even after all that Jinchuu shit, he had been the one telling them that they'd overcome. Kenshin had been broken, Sanosuke had left, and Yahiko had been more faithful than them both. Ignoring how Yahiko had hit his hand away earlier, Sanosuke reached out, not to hit his head, but to pat his back. "Good job. I can still call you kid, though."

There was a hell of a lot he wanted to ask, and that he needed to say, but Yuffie came first just then. She'd slammed the door hard, and despite experience cautioning him to stay away and guard his crotch, Sano moved over to the woman.

"I'm not about to offer to let you beat me up again." Sano had learned that lesson well enough the first time, thank you. "But we will save them, Ninja Girl. Believe it."

M23, wasn't it? Yeah, that was the right number, Kenren was certain of it. His own room was a little closer, but like hell he was going to interrupt Zelnick and the cute distraught guy if they were getting personal. Not to mention that he doubted that Sanzo would approve at all of being anywhere near Kenren's bed, no matter how innocent the context.

He found the monk's room and pushed the door open before making his way inside. He picked a bed at random and moved to place Sanzo carefully down on it, being as gentle as he could and trying not to knock his head on the headboard or anything. Finally he got the priest onto the bed and, well, there wasn't a whole lot that he could do until sleeping beauty decided to wake up naturally, because Kenren sure as hell wasn't risking the disembowelment that would doubtless come if he tried to play Prince.

Sanzo's eyelids flickered, eyelashes skimming some dark, blurry fabric. It was taking a bit for his mind to catch up, feeling like he was emerging from some dark pit. What the hell happened? It felt like he'd been kidney punched, and then pistol-whipped for good measure. His limbs were aching.

The last thing he remembered was looking down the hallway near the male blocks, and then a sudden burst of agony.

The monk's eyes opened. He was face to face with someone's chest.

Wait a fucking minute...

His eyebrows furrowed. He'd been managing down the hallway so far; there'd been one mistep, but he'd been about to correct it.

....He'd only blacked out when Kenren shoved his nose where it didn't belong.

Sanzo's eyes flicked upwards, and narrowed. This was all Kenren's fault. If he'd just stopped running his mouth, shut up and listen to him, none of this would've happened. For one, he'd still have that last bit of pride left. He could've actually made the rest of the way back on his own.

Sanzo shoved him off, pushing at him roughly.

Kenren nearly dropped the monk altogether when Sanzo pushed at his chest, more from surprise than pain. Sanzo wasn't exactly in the best position to be shoving anyone really. He left Sanzo on the bed and pulled away, just out of arm's reach, and peered down at him. "I guess you're awake then, huh?" he said.

"You know, it makes things much much easier if you perhaps tell people when you're that badly injured," he said, a touch of irritation in his voice. He could see the wound now on Sanzo's stomach where Kenren had grabbed him. It hadn't opened too badly, thankfully, but was a little bloody. "It makes things so much more difficult for the rest of us."
