Yohji felt a little better after spending brunch with Schuldig. The sting wouldn't go away, not for a long time he was sure, but he felt like he had some solid ground beneath him. He was planning on heading outside, into the rec field for a while, wanting a little bit of fresh air rather than being cooped up inside all day, but then a nurse caught his arm, tutting and asking if he didn't want to see his visitor

The painfully familiar gesture made Yohji's chest feel tight, his eyes sting and he fought the feeling down as harshly as he could because he was not going to start crying here. If he did that, then he knew that there'd be nothing keeping him Yohji. "It looks pretty good long," he agreed. "And not bleached." He hadn't had brown hair for a couple of years now, but maybe he should go back, start again.
His breath hitched in his throat at the offer, remembering when Cliff had made it the first time. The chance to travel with him, work with him and it had never sounded so appealing as it did now. It would be so easy to just ask Cliff if he could go with him now, that it would be easier to get better away from this place where he could pretend that there weren't monsters, that his own life wasn't real. But he held himself back, hating himself for it. "I still want to," he replied. "I really do."
"I'll bet." Adam replied, but the light flirting had taken on a melancholy edge no matter how much he tried to fight it.
"Then it's settled. I'll wait. There's plenty for me to do here for now." He reached over, started off like he wanted to ruffle Ryou's hair again, but he let his fingers drift a bit lower and pull the other man forward a bit. Adam kissed him, nurses be damned. He didn't want to walk out that door again and leave Ryou behind.
He ran a hand through his short hair self-conciously, remembering when it had been long, when he hadn't been such a wreck and when Weiss had been whole and a team. It didn't help, not knowing that Omi had come from that time and still been taken. But he wished that he could have known Cliff back then.
"You shouldn't have to wait," he said quietly, giving Cliff a weak smile. "I don't want to hold you up." Although it meant a lot to him, it made him want to 'get better' for him so badly. He'd expected his hair to be ruffled, so he just stared, wide-eyed as Cliff leaned forward and kissed him softly. It took a moment before the shock wore off and Yohji kissed back, almost desperately, one hand clenching in the material of Cliff's t-shirt like he never wanted to let go.
He didn't think Ryou would kiss back for a moment but when he did Adam didn't hold anything back - desperation, sadness, hope... He only broke the kiss because air was a nice thing to have, but he pulled Ryou into a tight hug instead. "I don't care, kid. Hold me up as long as you need to."
He seemed every bit as desperate as Yohji was and that nearly made him break down, his fingers tightening on the shirt, crumpling it between his fingers. He leaned into the hug, resting his forehead against Cliff's shoulder, wrapping his arms around the other man and hugging him fiercely. "I'll try my best," he said quietly. "I'll find you." It didn't seem to matter how it happened anymore, just that it did.
He bit his lip, thinking for a moment before speaking. "You should tell me what they're calling you now, right?" he asked. He'd remember both of them, he had to.
"Won't be hard." Adam replied. He'd make sure it was easy enough to find him when Ryou got out - if he didn't find Ryou first. He spread his hands against Ryou's back, savouring the warmth.
He had to wonder if he'd still be so easy to find if Yohji did ever manage to escape with his mind in tact, but he supposed that it didn't matter as long as he got out. He could find him. Would find him.
He looked up, smiling at him, genuine this time, tired but hopeful. "Right, Adam." It kind of suited him, he thought. "I'll get out." It was a promise, no matter how he had to do it.
"I know you will." Adam released him, still staying pretty close. His smile was genuine too, and it felt better to know that Ryou seemed intent on leaving now. And it was nice, if a little strange, to hear him say his real name.
Cliff glanced back at the nurses. They were shepherding people out.
Reluctantly, Yohji released Cliff- no, Adam's shirt, brushing his fingers across the man's hand before resting his hands in his lap again. He didn't want Adam to leave, or at least, not without him, but the nurses were already starting to move people away. The end of visiting time.
He swallowed thickly, looking up at his friend. "Thanks for coming to see me, Adam," he said.
"I'll be back next week." A nurse was already coming towards them, so Adam took Ryou's hand one last time and gave it a quick squeeze. "If you don't out before then anyway. Good luck, kid."
He didn't know why he never said Ryou's real name. Most likely, he never even noticed.
