John looked up the staircase, shining the light up the dark stairs. "It's clear," he said, looking back at Daemon. "I think we'll be safe climbing up. Stay close, though."

"Don't worry," Daemon replied, stepping into the stairwell behind him and glancing up into the darkness. "Would you prefer I go first?"

John shook his head, shouldering the pillow case. "No, it's alright. I remember where the mail room is at. We just need to be cautious. I'd rather not run into a large cat again but if we do, well, I hope you can run."
