Nightshift 32: M51-M60 Hallway

May 30, 2008 12:07

The lights went out, and Edgeworth prepared for the excursion at hand. He put on his coat, slipped several fresh scalpels into his left pocket, and put the scalpels for Claude in the right pocket. He tucked his notebook and a pen into the left inner pocket of his coat and took the pillowcases off his bed, folding them neatly and putting them into ( Read more... )

[To be visited by Fayt]

By the time Albel had been moved back to his room, he still had no idea how he was going to move around tonight. A wheelchair wasn't exactly practical with that rotting scum running around (and he wasn't even going to consider the stairs). As he hated to admit his weakness, he'd be an idiot if he tried going out into the hallways like this.

But walking wasn't quite an option either, the warrior soon found out. Moving around without his wheelchair had put more strain on his lungs than he could bear. It eventually made him drop down on his bed. It was only then when he noticed how tired he actually was.

Even though he didn't want to waste his time, he still drifted off to sleep.

[From here. Sorry for the delay, the new maps really don't make any sense. ._.;]

M80, M70... If the room numbers decreased the further down he went, as Fayt had originally thought, and Albel's room was M56 then... He'd have to go down the hall starting with M60. Right? Fayt paused to consider the idea before, ultimately, starting down the hall.

M60, M59, M58... Albel's room had to be this way, the only way Fayt could think it wouldn't be was if the makers of this place decided to skip M56 along the way. Which would have figured, give one of the more troublesome patients a troublesome room that was impossible to find. And maybe all those nights without sleep were beginning to get to his head.

M56! Fayt grinned and knocked on the door, it was about time.

It was only for his own good that the intercom hadn't been able to wake the sleeping warrior. If Albel hadn't drifted off, he would have most likely try to leave his room. One way or another, as stubborn as the Elicoorian was. He'd crawl, even.

But considering that wasn't the case, he was still present in his room, fast asleep. The knocking on the door went completely unnoticed; the warrior stirred, but didn't wake up.

No answer. Fayt's grin faded as he listened for some sort of sound within the room. Did Albel already leave? The swordsman was worse than a pack mule when it came to being hard headed not that Fayt could talk, the wheelchair wouldn't do anything to prevent him from leaving. The thought was unsettling, he didn't want to imagine Albel being stupid enough to get himself caught in a place that rivaled Stephen King's imagination on its best day when he was injured and incapable of defending himself.

Not that he would tell Albel that, wheelchair or not, Albel would still try to beat him within an inch of his life at the implication of being weak. Even if he was at this point in time. Fayt grit his teeth after another long moment of silence, he had waited long enough. If Albel wasn't in here then... Well, there really wasn't much he could do, frustrating enough as it was. Turning the knob, Fayt inched the door open and carefully shone his light into the room, unwilling to intrude but ( ... )

Nothing good ever came out of the enemy offering a “gift,” not that Aidou had even been inclined to Landel’s supposed enemies offering gifts either. Even so, the desire to see just what the lunatic was up to this time was strong. Chapel, safe haven… healing? But with a cost.

The vampire smoothed down his soft, black shirt, confident that if that were the case, he wouldn’t go even if he were half-dead. Still, it was something to keep in mind.

Although he was fully aware he’d let Kyon off his leash for the day with one small board post, he didn’t necessarily feel guilt over what damage a voracious, clumsy bloodsucker could cause without supervision. It’d been nice… not having to think about all these problems. But now that he’d had time to right himself, Aidou figured he had to get back to work. Collect Kyon, feed him, feed himself, and keep both of them from getting caught or even spotted.

Best to hurry, or else Kyon might wander off, and he’d have to waste time hunting the kid down.

((From here.))

Fortunately, the way to the next hallway wasn't long at all, and Claude arrived without any hitches.

For a moment, he thought he'd have to keep his flashlight beam carefully trained on the room numbers, but when he realized M59 was one of the first rooms of the hall, he was glad that it was easy to find. Better yet, it seemed there might have been someone waiting for him.

He approached the man, who appeared to be a little bit taller and a few years older than himself. "Excuse me," he said, careful to keep his voice low and quiet, "but my name is Claude. Are you by any chance the person I spoke to on the bulletin today? About the scalpel?"

"Ah, yes. I've been expecting you - I'm Miles Edgeworth," he said, extending a hand. "It's nice to meet you."

He reached into his coat pocket, taking out the two scalpels. "Take both of these - they worked well for me last night. I can also give you one more, in case you need a fresh one?" He asked in a low voice, careful to keep the metal from hitting the light.

"It's nice to meet you, too," Claude said once he grasped Edgeworth's hand. He couldn't help but wonder in the back of his mind whether he was from Earth or not. But now wasn't exactly the best time to ask things like that.

He hadn't expected Edgeworth to give him two scalpels, and, grateful, he reached for them. "Well, right now I'm traveling with just one other person, so I'm not sure if a third one would be necessary. But you have more experience with all this, so if you think I'd be better off with a fresher one, I'd trust your judgment."

"I think it's better to be safe than sorry - and I have a few extras, so it's no trouble." With that, he reached into the other coat pocket, handing over one more.

"There's no need to return them to me once you're done," Edgeworth added. "Either keep them, or pass them along if you know someone else that might need them." He smiled as he said that.

"Also, I know there's one group working on the men's rooms in the M1-M40 block. The one nearer to here is probably your best bet, or the one in the M100 block. That way there's no hassle with running into other groups."

Shadow had spent all day waiting for nightfall. His encounter with Reid hadn't left him discouraged at all. Just a bit sad that the boy seemed determined to spurn every offer of friendship that Shadow offered. Well, no reason to worry about him. Tonight Shadow was determined to get things done.

He stood up from his bed and stretched, his arm still sore but it was beginning to heal which was good to know. Shadow still had limited mobility but it didn't hurt as much as it once did. He just hoped tonight he didn't further injure himself. Reaching beneath his bed he grabbed his flashlight, figuring it was best to go armed tonight. He'd been caught off guard too many times to not realize the importance of even the smallest of blunt objects. He headed out the door deciding to head to Valyn's room when the sound of Shana's magic stopped him. She was close by. Perhaps he'd meet up with her first.

Shadow stepped out of his room and began walking down the familiar hallways, following the sound of Shana's magic.

[ From here]

Hiei didn't stop until he found himself outside Kurikara's door, the trip not taking long at all. That was good, as the demon and the dragon would need as much time as possible to gather Kurikara's supplies. It especially didn't help that at least so far as the demon was concerned, he had no idea where to get any of the things Kurikara had mentioned the night before.

But someone should. If not Kurikara, then maybe that roommate of his. Never one to have the patience to wait, Hiei didn't bother to knock before he walked in the door.

Kurikara was already on his feet when Hiei walked in, sword balanced carefully on his uninjured shoulder. He grinned at the demon, making his way to the door. "Let's go. This room is driving me crazy."

"It's good to see you aren't wasting any time." Or doing anything stupid, but Hiei thought the last part went without saying. Maybe now that Kurikara had his sword back while still of his right mind, he'd stop blaming himself for the events two nights ago.

Hiei certainly hoped so. They didn't have time to waste while the demon kicked the dragon's ass.

"Do you know where you're going?" Hiei certainly didn't have a clue, and it wouldn't shock him if Kurikara got too eager and they spent half the night wandering around completely lost. The best case scenario, however, was that Kurikara had actually bothered to ask directions, something Hiei wasn't prone to doing.

The room was driving Kurikara crazy? Was he counting Sai as part of that?

Well, it didn't matter. The ninja stood up just after his roommate did and gave Hiei a slight bow. Then he performed a few short stretches to make sure most of the numbness had left his limbs. Hopefully his combat abilities wouldn't have been jeopardized.

"Good luck to both of you," he said with a smile before gathering up his trowels and flashlight. The next moment he was out the door.
