Nightshift 29 Radio Broadcast #2

Jan 24, 2008 20:33

Once more the radios of the institute clicked on, the strains of Pink Floyd’s ‘A New Machine’ filtering out through the speakers. The nighttime DJ could be heard humming along, his throaty voice unmistakable. The music turned down, and the humming ceased.

Amazing how a man’s temper can cool so quickly. You see, I was enraged. I was filled with a fire that few men truly know, driven by hate and fury. But that doesn’t get a man anywhere. Emotional reactions lead to disaster - I’m sure you know the drill.

So Martin, rest easy in your little gilded cage. I’m not coming for you tonight. Why take you now, when I can take small pieces of you?

I’m sure you’ve realized by now where I am and what I’ve done. I’m inside you, Martin. I’m inside you and I have hold and I’m not letting go. Did you think this place would forget me? Did you think I hold no power here?

I’ll take you bit by bit, making what’s yours into mine. Like the sun rising, I will stretch my light over your darkness. Only I’ll do it from inside. I’m going to slide under your skin so deep you’ll never get me out. I’m going to creep through your veins, your blood, your marrow… I’m a parasite, and I will suck you dry.

And then, when you have nothing left and my taint is on everything you love, everything you hold dear… then I’ll take you.

But my friends, fear not! I have not forgotten you! Quite the opposite…

I’m feeling most charitable tonight. I will be your Red, only I do deal in weapons and hard drugs. If any of you are near the library….

Drop in and say hi. I’m just dying for some company.

With that, the radios shut off, and the music as well. But from the door of the patient’s library could be heard the unmistakable sound of Pink Floyd….
