DAY 20: LUNCH

Dec 07, 2006 17:33

While Arts and Crafts wasn't all that bad, Gray Fox was greatly relieved when an intercom announced Lunch. He had almost reached the point where he was going to start eating more of the building materials ( Read more... )

Scholar Ling was rather glad, now, that she had been blessed by the 'Mother'. The taste of flesh beneath subtly-sharpened teeth was a pleasure that normal humans simply couldn't understand, and it took the woman quite a bit of willpower to keep from tearing into it like the cannibals the Mother had been worshiped by.

Rather, she kept her manners about her, and let her gaze sweep across the assembled throngs. The two would be discussing her proposal, without a doubt, and Lust seemed to be gathered with another...

In ordinary circumstances, the Scholar would have made a beeline to follow the threads of destiny, finding one who could use her help and make a use of it. However, as was often said, Landels was not an 'ordinary circumstance.' So she would try to eat her meal in peace, and fill out her journal once more. She hadn't yet been given a chance to completely record what had happened during the night; now would be the chance to do so.

Hojo's mood was thoroughly soured, though to be fair he'd seemed to waver solely between irritated and amused lately(granted, most people would consider him emotionally binary anyway, but most people were idiots and Hojo figured there was probably a correlation). He mentally placed the blond on his list of people to avoid, at least for now.

Eating in the morning always made him feel ill, but the scientist was starting to regret the lack of breakfast so this time around he actually took a plate of food(hamburger, fries, and water; he would have preferred coffee but there was a distinct lack of coffee, and artificial sweeteners were suspicious by their very nature so water it was) and found an out-of-the-way table to sit at. After the annoyance that was the Arts & Crafts hour company was the last thing he wanted, and as long as there were empty tables he was going to go out of his way to take advantage of them.

Every now and again, at least while he wasn't occupied with keeping certain silver-haired psychopaths under a figurative leash, Ichigo's mind would set to wandering about just where Landels actually was in the world. Since he'd arrived here while apparently unconscious, he naturally hadn't been able to see where he'd come to, so a bit of natural curiosity often took hold of him as to the truth.

Scooping up his lunch, a rather heavily stacked hamburger with plenty of fixings, and a small side salad to even things out, Ichigo took a seat at one of the few vacant tables remaining and let his thoughts pool together as he vacantly stared off into the distance.

Landels could've easily been anywhere. Even some kind of different dimension or world, with all the multiversed residents. But with all the Earth-like traditions that seemed to confuse planetary visitors, it was at least safe to say he wasn't that far from home. The food acted as another hint. Only moments ago, he had been in the lunch line, mumbling to himself about how this place ( ... )

Loser, loser, jock, what the hell, loser, loser, geek. Kiden ran through various juvenile names to call the other patients at Landels. She felt strangely relaxed, but she had actually been reassured by her earlier conversation with Barret. He was a nice guy, reminded her a bit of her dad (but Barret swore more) and she could trust him. it was nice to know that she had someone to trust.

Of course, navigating the lunch would be joyous. Hamburgers were at least normal to her, and the food looked rather good. She was hungry, a side effect from being a teenager, and took her plate to sit at a table. Kiden had gotten onion rings with her burger, and opted for the chocolate milk. She plunked down across from what looked like someone just a bit older than her. Good, she had her fill of old guys, even if they were nice.

At first, Ichigo couldn't even seem to be bothered into giving the girl a polite, greeting look. Not a nod of his head, a wave of his hand, or even a single word. Instead, with a typical scowl and a very narrow set of piercing eyes, he stared down at the tray the blonde had noisily set down in front of him, looking almost angry, as if he could somehow blame the object for derailing his train of thought. His eyes would remain there for a moment or so before slowly climbing gravity itself, eventually meeting Kiden's line of sight ( ... )

His scowl was met with a look of practiced indifference. Kiden grabbed her burger and took a large bite out of it, if he was going to be indifferent, so could she. He wasn't quite a redhead, but wasn't fully blond either, and sort of reminded her of Ty. Which really did nothing in his favor.

"Who said I was looking for company?" Kiden shot back, with a little heat. Despite his rather irritated look at the comment, he wasn't that bad, actually. Polite, even, which was a bit odd considering what she had first thought of him. She imagined, in her head, her mother's voice going teenagers, and almost grinned. Contradictory creatures, weren't they? Including herself.

At least the food was edible, Ed kept telling himself. He wasn't entirely sure what a hamburger was, but it had meat in it and smelled delicious. He got a plain one, not much fussed with all the vegetables being thrown on top of it. The chocolate milk looked mildly interesting. He was quite fond of chocolate. But the 'milk' part of the name put him off and he settled for one of the other drinks instead. Why'd they have to spoil perfectly good chocolate with milk anyway?

He took his tray over to an empty table and sat down, waiting for Hughes to arrive. He felt kind of silly and childish, but he didn't really want to take his eyes off the man for too long in case it turned out to be some horrible dream where he'd wake up and Hughes would be dead again.

Adelheid, considering his position, had never really had hamburgers before. He knew that it was a common food, but his sister had insisted that he never stoop to such levels... but it was protein, and carbohydrates. Both things that he'd desperately need.

When he looked over and saw a now-familiar head of golden hair, he smiled softly and shifted position to sit perpendicular to Edward, not blocking his view. Eric hadn't shown up yet, and he still wanted to think about what Nick had said... and besides, he needed to catch up anyway.

"It looks like you've seen a ghost, if a particularly fond one," he commented with a slight smile, noticing the wide eyes and the eager expression.

Hughes was surprised at how hungry he was. He'd eaten breakfast and had a little bit of the sweets laid out in the Arts and Crafts room, but he was already starving. Probably because of what had happened last night. Well, he'd get his strength back up.

He got plenty of food, piling his 'burger' high with everything offered. It still wasn't anywhere near Gracia's home cooking, but the food wasn't bad. He headed over to where Ed was sitting, and noticed Adelheid with him as well. Well, he didn't mind him for company, either.

"Ed, we'll finish what we were talking about later," Hughes said, sitting down with the two young men. The conversation hadn't been quite finished, and Hughes knew how Ed felt. He'd been in the same position - having to take someone down who maybe didn't really deserve it.

"Adelheid, good to see you in better circumstances. Thanks again for last night." He nodded to the other teenager, smiling.

Ed looked up when someone approached and then smiled, recognising Adelheid. "Hi! I met... someone who I thought was dead," he said by way of explanation.

And as if on cue, Hughes came and settled next to them with his own food. Ed nodded to him, hoping that they'd get to talk some more. While Adelheid seemed nice enough, it wasn't exactly the kind of thing he wanted to share with people he didn't trust implicitly yet.

Ed blinked at the two other men. So, they knew each other? "Last night?" he asked curiously. "Did something happen?"

Kuronue had been rather enthralled to find out that it was lunch time and that he could eat again. A day of eating left him with no protest-espeically if fruit was involved. The hamburgers looked nothing short of grotesque in his opinion. Human food had always seemed so odd to him.

And greasy…

Taking up a tray of nothing but fruit and a small portion of salad, the bat demon made his merry way to an empty seat after having taken a brief look around. Perhaps Kurama would be there soon-and maybe Ginji too-if the boy wasn’t sleeping instead. He did seem horribly tired; and from what the fox demon had told him, the nightshift was nothing to laugh at.

Releasing a deep sigh, the demon began to devour one of the pieces of fruit on his tray, having to restrain the wide and probably ridiculous smile that dared to make its way onto his features. He felt that he was in a much better mood than he should have been… He knew well that such a thing could probably be rectified by setting his mind on other things…

If only I wasn’t so lazy… ( ... )

Therapy had gone smoothly enough. The guy seemed a bit...well, he couldn't think of the word, but his doctor had been an odd one, certainly. It'd be interesting to see what was in all those boxes, if he ever got them unpacked. On second thought, though, how could someone need that much stuff for an office?

Still, food sounded better than therapy, though Junior thought he could really go for some curry right now. He went through the line quick enough, getting everything he could piled onto his burger, a side of onion rings, and a glass of lemonade before moving to sit down, keeping his eyes peeled the entire time for either one of his brothers. Nothing yet. Why was it that both Gaignun and Albedo managed to be able to disappear so easily?

Ah well. The redhead stopped at a random table and glanced over at the person sitting on the opposite side of the table. "Hey. It okay if I sit here?"

Kuronue turned his head at the sound of a voice, unknowing of who he expected to see. No one in particular, really; he seemed to be meeting all kinds of people that day. A couple less to loot if given the chance, for he normally respected the friends that he would make.

…Sometimes…

“Yeah! Sure. Grab a seat, kid,” the bat demon answered with a wide grin, motioning towards the empty seat across from him. He nearly found it hilarious that he was meeting yet another red-head; the third one all day to boot. How amusing. Maybe he just attracted them. “I’m Kuronue,” he added after taking another large bite of fruit.

"Thanks!" Junior answered with a wide smile, sitting down and trying to scoot the chair closer to the table. The guy seemed so enthusiastic, so it looked like he'd stopped at the right table.

Of course, he could always turn out to be bipolar, but...he really doubted it. Most people here didn't really seem crazy, like they were supposed to be. The redhead had seen crazy. He'd seen the combat realians succumb to the Song of Nephilim during the Conflict and attack indiscriminately. People here weren't biting each others' heads, so they had to be sane...right?

"I'm Junior," he said before taking a bit bite out of his burger. "Been here long?" he asked when he finally swallowed.
