DAY 20: LUNCH

Dec 07, 2006 17:33

While Arts and Crafts wasn't all that bad, Gray Fox was greatly relieved when an intercom announced Lunch. He had almost reached the point where he was going to start eating more of the building materials ( Read more... )

Kuronue had been rather enthralled to find out that it was lunch time and that he could eat again. A day of eating left him with no protest-espeically if fruit was involved. The hamburgers looked nothing short of grotesque in his opinion. Human food had always seemed so odd to him.

And greasy…

Taking up a tray of nothing but fruit and a small portion of salad, the bat demon made his merry way to an empty seat after having taken a brief look around. Perhaps Kurama would be there soon-and maybe Ginji too-if the boy wasn’t sleeping instead. He did seem horribly tired; and from what the fox demon had told him, the nightshift was nothing to laugh at.

Releasing a deep sigh, the demon began to devour one of the pieces of fruit on his tray, having to restrain the wide and probably ridiculous smile that dared to make its way onto his features. He felt that he was in a much better mood than he should have been… He knew well that such a thing could probably be rectified by setting his mind on other things…

If only I wasn’t so lazy… ( ... )

Therapy had gone smoothly enough. The guy seemed a bit...well, he couldn't think of the word, but his doctor had been an odd one, certainly. It'd be interesting to see what was in all those boxes, if he ever got them unpacked. On second thought, though, how could someone need that much stuff for an office?

Still, food sounded better than therapy, though Junior thought he could really go for some curry right now. He went through the line quick enough, getting everything he could piled onto his burger, a side of onion rings, and a glass of lemonade before moving to sit down, keeping his eyes peeled the entire time for either one of his brothers. Nothing yet. Why was it that both Gaignun and Albedo managed to be able to disappear so easily?

Ah well. The redhead stopped at a random table and glanced over at the person sitting on the opposite side of the table. "Hey. It okay if I sit here?"

Kuronue turned his head at the sound of a voice, unknowing of who he expected to see. No one in particular, really; he seemed to be meeting all kinds of people that day. A couple less to loot if given the chance, for he normally respected the friends that he would make.

…Sometimes…

“Yeah! Sure. Grab a seat, kid,” the bat demon answered with a wide grin, motioning towards the empty seat across from him. He nearly found it hilarious that he was meeting yet another red-head; the third one all day to boot. How amusing. Maybe he just attracted them. “I’m Kuronue,” he added after taking another large bite of fruit.

"Thanks!" Junior answered with a wide smile, sitting down and trying to scoot the chair closer to the table. The guy seemed so enthusiastic, so it looked like he'd stopped at the right table.

Of course, he could always turn out to be bipolar, but...he really doubted it. Most people here didn't really seem crazy, like they were supposed to be. The redhead had seen crazy. He'd seen the combat realians succumb to the Song of Nephilim during the Conflict and attack indiscriminately. People here weren't biting each others' heads, so they had to be sane...right?

"I'm Junior," he said before taking a bit bite out of his burger. "Been here long?" he asked when he finally swallowed.

“Nice to meet you Junior…” the bat demon chimed, munching on more fruit and holding his smile. He looked so young; like a child no older than twelve. “Can’t say that I have. I got here last night without a thought in the world as to how,” he answered, shrugging his shoulders with a quizzical air.

“What about you? Have you been here long? I hear it’s pretty crazy at night…” he mused, finishing one piece of fruit to move onto the next.

"Nice to meet you, too, Kuronue." The redhead popped an onion ring in his mouth before continuing. "Last night? You don't seem to be sweating it too much. 's a first, from what I've seen." He took a moment to finish the onion ring, before answering the question.

"I've been here for...a few days. Lost count; time doesn't really seem to matter when we've got a bastard like the one over the intercom controlling everything. But yeah, it's pretty crazy at night. I haven't come across anything yet, but I've heard about different sorts of monsters. Not to mention they take patients sometimes. Not sure what happens there, either, but it can't be anything pleasant."

Kuronue nodded his head slowly, “Yeah-I heard about that too. I think a friend of my friend’s got put in one of those. This entire place is pretty fishy,” he said, leaning forward to rest his elbows on the table on either side of his tray.

“…But I guess that I’ll see what it’s really like once the night shift actually hits me. I can believe it now-since I’ve heard this monster statement from so many people…” he muttered in between bites, averting his eyes downward in a contemplative gaze at a spot on the table, and pausing to swallow before speaking again, “So… is it safe to assume that you don’t know how you thrown into this place either?” he inquired.

"Huh...yeah, that is pretty fishy. I mean, this place's obviously not what they say it is, but...no one really knows what it is." He took another big bite of hamburger, and glanced around again quickly looking for his brothers.

"Yeah, I know. I'm kinda used to monsters anyway, but it's different to just hear about things and experience these monsters on your own. And no, I don't know how I got stuck here, either. I just woke up one morning. Thought I'd been kidnapped." He paused a moment before deciding to inquire about his brothers. What could it hurt? The worst Kuronue could say was what he was already expecting, a no.

"Hey, I know you're new and all, but have you seen a couple of taller guys who have kinda the same facial structure as me? One's got white hair and purple eyes, and the other's got black hair and green eyes."

Kuronue stopped to think for a moment, scanning over the various people that he had seen throughout the day and finally concluding that the ones that the boy described were no one that he had ever seen at all.

The demon shook his head, “Nuh-uh. Not that I’ve seen so far. I haven’t talked to that many people either-but I’ll keep an eye out for them if you want,” he offered, peeling at the skin of the apple in his hand as he spoke.

Indeed he had ended up in a horribly strange place; full of much question without very many answers at all. If someone who had been there for at least a while didn’t really know what it was that was going on-then would anyone know at all? Staff aside, that was…

Looks like we’re all pretty much screwed… he thought to himself, his gaze falling back down to his tray.

Damn. Where the hell are they? the redhead wondered to himself before nodding. "That'd be good. Thanks, Kuronue." It'd be good to have another set of eyes looking out for his brothers, and maybe then he could worry less. More eyes meant more ground covered when looking, right? That's what he and the other URTVs been taught as the reason for splitting up when securing an area, and it seemed to work well enough during the Conflict, but...no, best not to go there right now. That was one of nightshift's many purposes.

"So...you can fight, right?" he asked as he finished off his burger and moved on to the onion rings. Honestly, even Junior didn't know where the question had come from, but it was an attempt at small talk. Not to mention he wanted to make sure that the guy wouldn't be totally helpless at night if they came upon something. But...hadn't he mention a 'friend of a friend', or something like that? So hopefully if he didn't, the other would.

Kuronue took a rather long while to respond, seeming to take more time on his half-eatten fruit as he delved into though. He really hadn’t the faintest clue as to what he was and wasn’t capable of and only time would tell. Nightshift time, that was. At the moment, he felt as though he had been rendered completely helpess.

“Yeah… I think I might be able to,” he replied at last, a bit of his pride no wanting to say the latter. However, another part of him would let him get away with that lie-even though he was a thief, “Err… well-I really don’t know, to tell you the truth. I don’t know at all. ‘Guess I’ll just have to find out tonight…” he admitted with a soft shrug of his shoulders.

"What about you, kid? Are you okay for the night? I mean--I can fight with physical force... It's just my power that seems to be missing and I was better with that..." he added quickly.

I'm not a kid, Junior's mind answered automatically. Usually, the people who said it meant well, but still, it was really damn annoying at times ( ... )
