NIGHTSHIFT 28: M31-M40 HALLWAY

( From here.)

Artemis poked his head into Farfarello's room, and seeing that there wasn't anything waiting for him, entered. "Right," He stopped in the middle of the room and turned, "Where do we start?"

Why did the room suddenly feel like it was the size of a matchbox?

Farfarello gestured to Roland's bed. "Sit. I have to take care of something." He started to undo the fly of his jeans, then belatedly remembered that some people were shy about nudity. "Uh. This has nothing to do with you, turn around or something if you're shy. I just smuggled something back from town."

Artemis obeyed and sat down on the bed, averting his gaze. "I understand. I was patted down as well, even if the nurses were fussing over my face. Does it look that bad?"

"It's not that bad. Nurses will fuss over pretty much anything, especially on kids." Of course, Farfarello's opinion on injuries was not necessarily the most reliable in the world.

Once the bottle of nailpolish was transferred from its current hiding place to a new one in the closet, Farfarello sighed softly in relief and zipped back up. "Finally."

That taken care of, Farfarello sprawled on his own bed comfortably. Hopefully having most of the room between them and Farfarello in an obviously casual and non-threatening (for him, anyway) pose would make things a little easier on Artemis. "Theory first. First thing I've gotta say is, one of your biggest problems is this idea you seem to have that book knowledge and fighting are mutually exclusive things. You're not thinking about how to apply stuff like biology and physics, because you're assuming you don't know anything about how to fight."

"But... I do know something about fighting...?" Artemis said carefully. He wasn't exactly sure where this was going. He thought for sure that he was getting a lesson about fighting and therefore, didn't know the first thing about it. "How would I apply biology and physics to fighting?"

Shadow lead Valyn and Shana into the next room. He opened the door so that Valyn could help Shana in and not hurt his shoulder any more. "Here we are," he said brightly. "Our very own private room. You know, this place isn't so bad."

"That's only because you've yet to be eaten by a creature," Valyn muttered, sweeping Shana up into his arms despite his injured shoulder. Even this was hurting her, he could tell.

"Shana, how are you feeling?" he asked the question as he moved to set her on one of the beds, hoping she really was alright. And just... a bit off from the drug.

Shana was entirely too distracted by the fact that Valyn was holding her against his very naked chest, now that the chaos of the clinic was behind them.

"Very overdressed," she mumbled, twining her arms about his neck, unable to resist the urge to run fingers along his bared shoulder blade.

Shadow bit back a laugh as he watched them. Things were going to get very interesting indeed. Perhaps he needed to make himself scarce. He had wanted to take a look around and this was the best opportunity. Besides, Shana was in no mood to take anything too seriously. Maybe it would be best to let them talk under these circumstances. See what happened.

"You know what?" he said, snapping his fingers together. "I should probably ask the Lord for some medicine, just in case either of your wounds begin to hurt once more. It should only take a moment. You'll be alright if I leave you alone?"

He was really talking to Valyn but he winked at Shana, wondering if she'd recognize the opportunity that he was giving her.

Nami urged her nakama into the hallway.

"Mm, I hope you don't mind if I use the wooden rod in your closet, Usopp?" Nami smiled sweetly at the longnose. "Since you've probably no way to make me another Clima Tact.." Usopp's weapons were the absolute best, and perfectly personalized at that. Unfortunately, materials were rather limited in Landel's - he'd just have to see what he had for her. A pole didn't seem like it would be enough for the monsters - monsters! She still couldn't get over that - but it would have to do.

She'd wait a little while to call out for Sanji. The chances were rather high that he'd come running the moment he heard her voice, anyway.

"The rod from my room?" Usopp protested, even though he'd suggested it to Nami in the first place. "But what'll I hang my clothes on?" He already knew he'd wind up agreeing; nonetheless, he felt the urge to protest on general principle.

To Zoro, he said, "You mean you want metal for alchemy? Sorry, I'm kind of low at the moment. I just helped make some stuff I owed an ally, but it used up a lot of my resources. Maybe we can gather some more tonight." He kept his personal distaste for the small army of people here who weren't willing to improvise even a little and who relied on Roy's alchemy to himself, since Zoro was his crewmate and after all he knew for a fact Zoro really needed swords... not the sword-like objects he'd given Yuber.

"Right now most of my supplies are smoke bombs, broken glass, some really small pipes I need for something else and some fruit we should probably eat before it goes bad..." He paused, glancing up and down the hallway forlornly. "I don't see Sai or Sanji here yet."

As Luffy followed his group of trusty nakama, he idly wished that guy had given Zoro more peanuts. The dinner earlier was pretty pathetic compared to what he could have had at that restaurant. The only thing keeping him from plopping down and refusing to move another inch until he got food was the promise of going to the kitchen tonight. Granted, they were going there for answers, as Nami had said, but there wasn't anything wrong with grabbing a bit of a snack on the way! After all, it was tough looking for answers on an empty stomach!

"You can have my rod if Usopp won't give you yours," he piped up suddenly. "It's not like I need anything to hang my clothes on. That's what my chair or the floor's for, right?" He would have laughed, except he was being dead serious.

The dark-haired captain was more than a little stunned to hear they were running low on metal. "What?!" he said. "But didn't we take a bunch of stuff? Besiiiides, I promised Zoro stuff for a sword ages ago, even if he doesn't remember it." He folded his arms ( ... )

As soon as he was sure Artemis was really going to leave, and not stick around to yak some more, Farfarello set to preparing himself for the rest of the night. Damn that kid talked a lot, though. Almost as bad as Schuldig and ShinRa when they both got going. Hope you're having more fun than I am, partner.Since he actually had a decent pair of boots tonight instead of useless slippers, Farfarello left those on rather than going barefoot and wrapping his ankles. The little monster claws went on his left hand again, held on firmly by torn strips of bedsheet, which he then continued to wrap until his wrist was properly supported. The filleting knife and box cutter he bound to the outside of his right thigh with more strips from the sheets, and with that he was ready to go and have some fun, finally ( ... )

As Caim stepped into the room, he cast a quick glance around. No-one on the left, no-one on the right ... although on the right the closet door was open. The boy must have left it open before he left the room, which meant it was most likely empty. There was another, undisturbed closet, though, the likely recipient of any hidden tools or weapons.

He didn't see Farfarello, given that the man was mostly hidden by the clothes and opened doors of the closet. Caim shut the door behind him quietly and made his way over to the other closet, one hand moving out to pull at the handles so he could investigate further.

Farfarello straightened up, turning to watch the man as he moved over to Roland's closet. That other patients would be attempting the same thing as Schuldig and Crawford didn't surprise him, but it was quite the interesting coincidence that he knew the culprit. "Well, now. That's not nice, coming into a guy's room without knocking."

Flexing his clawed left hand, Farfarello smiled at Caim cruelly. "You're going to have to be taught some manners, I think."

Yohji pushed open the door to Omi's room, wishing that the flashlights worked at night. It would be nice to have something more than a flashlight to see by when he was bandaging them both. He could hear noise from the room next door. Not surprising if it was a clinic. Too many people must have been hurt tonight by those creatures.

He held the door open and let the two boys inside.

"Sorry, pal, but I'd rather not see you in one of those hospital miniskirts if it's all the same to you," Duo muttered back to Yohji. "Cross-dressers just don't do it for me, you know?"

Duo wasn't quite sure he'd ever been happier to see one of these impersonal prison 'hospital' rooms before. He was about ready to collapse and just not move for a little while, but he hovered near the door, waiting to see which bed Omi would take. It didn't really matter to him, but it was Omi's room, and Duo figured the other boy looked a little worse off right now than he did.

As soon as he picked, though, Duo was dropping into the other like a sack of bricks. He could apologize in the morning for bloodying up his roommate's sheets.

Omi would take his bed, then, thanks. He didn't quite seem to notice Duo not following into the room, since he made a beeline for his bed, slowing just enough that the flop onto his stomach was less a flop than a careful positioning of a body that hurt far more than he'd like. He slipped a hand under his pillow, only really relaxing once he had a grip on the knife Aya'd given him.

Laying down made being dizzy much more tolerable. Maybe he'd just stay like this for a while. Like the next week or so.

Yohji snorted, giving Duo and incredulous look. "I'd rather not see me in any kind of skirt, thanks," he replied with a grin. "It'd really do in my image."

He watched Omi carefully as he practically collapsed on the bed, wincing. That had to hurt. "Can I trust you two to keep each other awake while I go and get some stuff from the clinic?" he asked. He didn't like the way Omi looked, and if he had a concussion it wouldn't be good for him to sleep.
